This is something that interests me as well. I'm wondering about the X7 DT v7 - looks like an interesting machine (after LM repaste) if it can hold clocks. @hmscott @D2 Ultima are experts.
And @Kevin@GenTechPC - when will we see your review of the X7 DT v7?

Depends on where they get this power from. If they are checking wall-draw, then this makes sense. That is pre-conversion power. This is where a PSU's efficiency comes into play. If a PSU is designed to provide X watts and is solidly built to do so, then it will do so. If there is a PSU that is rated to provide 200W to the notebook and it is providing 200W at an efficiency rating of 85% for example, the power draw from the wall is 200/0.85, or ~235W drawn from the wall.

If your peaks are averaging greater than 20%, and you can get a reliable PSU that comes with the same connector and higher duty wattage, then you can safely give a larger capacity PSU a shot.
Generally people go from 230w to 330w easiest as those are common PSU's that have the same connector.
These days most firmware limits the power draw so getting a 330w instead of a 230w will only improve long term viability of the PSU as it's operating at a lower duty cycle.
If you are using a 230w PSU and keeping the power draw high for long periods of time it will over time degrade the PSU and it could fail - happens a lot. You can improve the PSU's chances by keeping it cool, don't bury it in the bed covers or deep pile carpet, keep it elevated and open to the air for cooling.
So, please let us know if you do try the larger PSU and if the wattage headroom increase improves performance, or just reduces operating temperature of the PSU.ThePerfectStorm likes this. -

I tried the 330w AW17 adapter with the x7 dt v6 and the adapter would shut off as soon as it got any load at all. I never did figure out why that happened. They were the same voltage, so it should have worked, right?

I heard the X5 MD will be exclusive to newegg, is that true?

Why would anyone buy the X7 DT when you can buy the smaller X5 MD which is quieter due to MQ & better battery life & 700gr less for just a little loss in performance?

1) Performance on the 1080 Max-Q can be overclocked to perform almost as well as a desktop 1080. The desktop 1080 can go significantly faster.
2) it's not a 17" laptop. I, for one, prefer a 17" screen.
3) no 120 Hz option. If they had the same 120Hz FHD screen that the Asus Zephyrus has, I would be totally interested. -

I just put in my pre-order for Aorus X5 MD at Newegg. It will be release on 7/27/2017.

For those interested in any of the models being discussed in this thread, Aorus continues to delay some versions. Before you pay, I would recommend checking with your chosen retailer/reseller whether they actually have your model physically in stock, or if they're relying on a ship date from Aorus. Because if they're relying on a ship date from Aorus, you and the retailer/reseller might get an unpleasant surprise from Aorus. Here's one such example, and I've read others. I believe the only Kaby Lake Aorus units I've heard of actually reaching consumers at this point are the 3k/1070 version of the X5, and of course the X3.
In all manners not relating to the actual hardware they produce, Aorus continues to disappoint. They've frequently demonstrated unresponsive and ineffective customer service. As a result I would only recommend buying from a retailer/reseller that you're confident will provide you with good support in lieu of the lack of it from Aorus. They can't stick to a ship date. This is frustrating for consumers that want their products, but it also loses Aorus business, because we're deep into the life cycle of Kaby/Pascal laptops. They also don't make it easy to research their laptops. As I've been looking into potentially buying a laptop, the lack of reviews I've been able to find for Aorus units has been a continual point of frustration. They really need to work on getting more press. Their actual products seem quite good, so it's hard to imagine that making an investment by sending out more review units wouldn't result in more sales. -

Only laptop I'm interested in is the DT X7 and no way I'm getting one without a decent review , Aorus generally make great laptops but without knowing thermals and fan noise and if the 230W PSU is enough on this laptop I'll patiently wait.

Finally, the delay has been explained! They've been waiting on the packaging!

Rice husks must not be in season for the delay in making new packaging boxes.
PS: Just placed a pre-order at NewEgg with a release date of 7/19/17, lets see if that is true or not.Last edited: Jul 18, 2017Vistar Shook likes this. -

My pre-order for the Aorus X5 MD got declined yesterday (7/18) because my bank only allowed $2,500 in purchase a day. So now I have to put money in an other account tomorrow (7/18) so my order can get shipped.

Any X5 V7 1070 owners able to post an overcloked FS score please?
Sent from my FRD-L14 using Tapatalk -
nm, I'm just using the v6 as a reference.
I'm not done with my review yet, but I want to warn everyone that the x5 MD probably isn't worth it over the 1070 version of the x5. I can't get a graphics score over 16500 in FS and NBC got 17869 with the v6 last year.
In short, this power adapter is too small. 200W is not enough power to overclock the GPU or the CPU. I barely get any improvements from overclocking. I'll keep trying different things, but it's not looking good so far...Donald@Paladin44, ThePerfectStorm, jsstp24n5 and 1 other person like this. -
That's a pity. It would seem that the 1080 MaxQ is only useful in a non-overclocking scenario. Unless you can buy a better PSU and get a TDP changer, you're better off with the 1070 version. And I still think the 1070 version could use a beefier PSU.
Aorus X5 V7, X7 V7, DT X7 all estimated for June release in USA
