Man I think any public place or business you walk in to, has those old dell 17” lcd monitors 1280x1024 lol.

There’s no telling how many Dell monitors are in the world! Probably enough to fill a few states.

After shutting off my x5 and leaving it that way for a few weeks I noticed that the battery was drained to 1%, even though fast boot has beem disabled. Does anyone know what the culprit may be?

As for those who like chewing on graphics, you should definitely try Hunt Showdown (Cryengine 5.5). It's not optimised to the fullest, but it will probably cripple the 10xx series.

My x5v7 does the same thing if I don't constantly use it for a period of time.

Decided to give VR a go and to that end have a Samsung Odyssey on the way. I'll report back on how well our lappies can do with it, reading about various configurations and their performance I'm hopeful the X7 will acquit itself well.

My X7 V7 has yet to let me down, it handles whatever’s thrown it’s way. I’m itching to try VR my self. I’m really interested in Fallout VR.

Is that Samsung like mixed reality? So you can use it with the desktop apps to right?

I didn't care for the Samsung. Way to glitchy on the controls. I had it the first month it came out though, so it might be better now. Vive and Oculus touch are both awesome though

I've played with it a little bit. The controllers work fine but I've had very little experience with other systems so cant place them in respect to the competition. The VR itself can range from jaw dropping to meh depending on the material. Lots of new stuff to figure out and configure so I don't want to say something that wont even stand up to tomorrow's education. Thoughts in no particular order...

Read the reviews and you come to understand that you're buying 1st gen hardware before you drop the ching no matter which way you go and with this hardware those things become apparent fast. Steam VR is beta, windows MR on Steam is beta. Windows MR in windows itself is beta. It's well enough sorted for the types that browse this forum but normal people would have some problems. As an example I had to edit some ini files to get the thumbsticks working in steam.

It seems strange to me that the worst thing I viewed was walking through the welcome portal and home base. Steams home looks vastly better. That's a fail when third part software is giving the OEM lessons. Also, why would you not have the thumb sticks set up to move around? Why cant I go into options and make them be the default way to move around? Who was responsible for making the first thing new users saw the worst experience they were going to have? Shouldn't that guy/girl be escorted to the curb by a couple thugs that bang their heads into every hard object along the way?

Tomb Raider was the first game I loaded and it was spectacular. When you first look at Laura and walk around her as she is standing there in 3D it becomes immediately obvious, this is the future of gaming.

I didn't get any kind of disorientation in the portals but when in game moving around it tweaked my brain, had to step out every so often and get my head back on straight. Didn't experience nausea as some have commented on.

With at least this system be prepared to screw around figuring things out, your first day will be more of a setup and problem solving exercise.

The X7 laughed at VR, kicked sand in it's face, walked away with the girl.

Gut call... I dig it but it's a bumpy ride.

I just plugged in my cans for the first time. Turns out that Jack doesn't want to allow the plug all the way in. Looking inside it appears there is a bit of shrapnel in there I'm going to have to get out somehow. o_O

My mic jack, and headphone jacks were both very tight, upon first use. They work well now, and I can plug stuff in with one hand and not holding one side of the computer.

    Shrapnel? Are you sure?

Yeah, I was able to move it around with a safety pin, appears to be a small piece of plastic. I'm on the road so I don't have tools, looks like a dental pick might work but I can't prove it just yet.

Just figured I’d chime in, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. I still have my Aorus X7 V7 4K model running at 4.7Ghz daily.

I see no reason to upgrade to a V8 model, or anything else for that matter.

I’ve been putting in a lot of hours on Kingdom Come Deliverance after updating to 1.43, with HD texture pack and starting a whole new character.

KDC at 1440P, everything on Ultra detail, all maximum view distances with maximum Anti-Aliasing, and HD textures ON, provides a smooth 28-48 FPS.

It is a beautifully smooth lag free experience thanks to G-Sync!

I love this laptop, “Knock on wood” it hasn’t uttered the slightest lick of trouble since I bought it!

    Aorus FTW!

My daughter spilled s drink on my x7 V7 4K. It shut down, and would not boot.. only power on, with no display signal..

I blew it with a heat gun real good, until it was very hot to the touch.

Fortunately it has started working again! A couple mushy feeling keys from the drink, but all is well! And I’m getting a USB device failure warning box on boot in windows. But everything works fine.. I’m not sure what it could be?

Anyways, I feel lucky! It was orange Hawaiian Punch that dumped in the left top keyboard, fan, power button area..

I’m up and running though, playing FARCRY 5, still at 4.7ghz! It’s a miracle!

I think it was the super reflexes lol. I’ve been waiting for this day, hoping it would never show it’s self.

I was literally sitting there playing Farcry 5, and out of no where a cup of drink hit the computer all over the keyboard.

I had stood up, unplugged it, with the laptop flipped over holding it keyboard down, while holding the power button to shut it off before my daughter even knew where it spilled.

Now, I’ve just gotta finish popping these keys off, and cleaning the rubber gaskets in the keyboard. They have a slight reset delay due to the sugar gumming them up.

It just says this error after every boot in to windows or restart. “USB failure this device is not recognized” I dunno, I click “OK” and all is well and I continue to use it trouble free, all USB plugs work, audio plugs work, sound works, and every other device, or plug for that matter. I’ve literally checked everything. So, I dunno what windows thinks has failed. It’s not a big deal. I may try a clean install to clear it up.

Hi guys, love to read you and learn a lot since years.

Just ordered a x5 v7 and have some questions.

As I have read from you:

    1. Buy an intel 9260 wifi card.
    2 undervolt cpu and gpu
3 repaste with LM or 1st class paste.

Anything else? change thermal pads on memos/vrm???

any guide for this particular laptop about pads thicknes, and mods to get the max performance/lower consumption and noise???

    thx

1- Not that important but at least its cheap.
2- This is a must do, this will improve the performance and noise considerably.
3- I don't recommend LM, while it will lower the temperature a lot you'll run the risk of a dead laptop if it escapes from the CPU die.

These are very good laptops, I love mine. And I have had nothing but a positive experience thus far.

If you have the Killer 1535 Wifi card, first things first go in to the device manager and change its roaming aggressiveness to (0) = the lowest possible setting. This will get rid of any latency issues, and resolve the weak signal problem, it will also fix any other issues it may have. And it works perfect! And I see no reason to change it!

Under volting the CPU is required, you should be able to achieve a steady 4.3Ghz single core boost, and a 4.0Ghz all core boost while running a -0.110 to -0.140 undervolt pretty easily. Repasting will help, if you use liquid metal you can achieve as high as 4.8Ghz on all (4) cores if you use the right settings. But, you need to use clear nail polish to cover any nearby contact points that could cause a short circuit.

I ran my X7 V7 at 4.71Ghz for about 3 months straight 24/7 use! I just took it down to inspect, and I was going to reapply the liquid metal, but I couldn't find it.. So, I had to just use standard paste. And now I'm back down to a lower overclock.

Ive found that the GPU runs really cold in these laptops. Even with stock paste, in the most demanding of any game available @1080p 55-62C was about the maximum. I run 4K so temps push a little higher, but never exceeding 65C even while overclocked to the highest it can possibly go!

You can get these laptops to outperform a GTX1080 equivalent laptop with the right overclocks right out of the box, before even repasting the GPU, and CPU.

you can get near 21,000 graphics in firestrike. And get SUB 17,000 overall in firestrike. These numbers easily pass a healthy running stock GTX1080 system. And simply obliterate a GTX1080 Max Q laptop.

This all requires the right tinkering, and OC profile to get the system to this kind of level. But, its possible!

I would wait before doing anything regarding the wifi card; if it gives you issues then take action. I'd recommend downloading latest drivers directly form killer's site. I've had no issues on mine; only thing I've done is changed the roaming aggressiveness to 5 since I have a mesh network at home and work.

Easiest way to tell, is run BF1 with the latest drivers and see if you get random connection drops. it was a nightmare racking up all of these points and warbonds In a server, for you to just be kicked out due to a high ping right before the server ends. And you lose anything you earned before the game finishes..

My internet is pretty fast, i get right at about 12.5 Megabytes per second actual download speed. It is 200mbps internet. And my Ping is usually around 28ms.

With it set to high aggressive or level (5) my ping will sit around 50ms or so in game, and spike to 300ms randomly.

Thanks all for your advices, as you have helped me a lot.
So, reading more, WiFi problem seems to be resolved atm (sorry i missed some info, too many posts at this thread) and it was some kind of mixed problem between poor drivers and **** windows updates.
And about thermals I'll apply LM and maybe paste to GPU if its cold enought as you have pointed, not for overclocking as I will mostly play at 1080p (22" FHD screen/50" tv steamlink) but for keep thermals down maybe even underclocking (loving quiets and power saving pc), just to get the 1080p@60FPS sweet spot I'm fine.
I could have bought something with 1050ti or 1060 but I tend to renew every 3-4 years so in the long run 1070 is needed to keep that frame rate in some years. Even maybe overclocking is needed and then I'll do it.

Thanks again. Everybody, and every tip or guidance is welcome.

    @tps3443

Any guide to get so awesome scores and performance I could read?

I'm fortunate enough to have gigabit at home (and close to it at work), so I get ~600Mbps over wifi, with <10ms pings. On ethernet it's the full 900+Mbps with 1-2ms pings. To be fair, I do most of my gaming on ethernet out of habit, but sometimes I forget and there's no meaningful difference (though my house is peppered with APs).

Yea 1gigabit has just become available through my home provider. Albeit is $93 per month by its self, if I did upgrade to that bandwidth level.

But, I really don’t see the point. My internet is the 400mbps package I was mistaken before not the 200mbps.

I can download even the largest of games of about a 60GB file size in around an hour, or hour and a half. Which is a huge file! And not everyday I’m DLing such huge file so I’m happy enough.

I was flying through Istanbul on the way back to the States when... During the last security check the man pulls my laptop out of my bag. His eyes get big and he actually made a small sigh of delight. That got the attention of the man next to him who came over an began a brief inquiry about gaming performance and other important security issues. While I was answering their questions both were handling the laptop in a way that could best be described by either fondling or caressing in blind adoration like a toddler will with his/her mother. Then as quickly as it began it was over and I was on my way.

Just another day in the life of an Aorus X7 owner. :)

I agree, anything over 100Mbps is more then sufficient for the vast majority. We have gigabit mainly for two reasons, work (downloading large ISOs, Images, Zips, etc) and because it was cheaper at the time than a 40Mbps connection (thank you google fiber for providing competition). It is fun being able to download a full game faster than you can install it on an SSD; it's so fast in fact that it gives the option (which I've used several times on my old laptops that had limited SSD space) to delete games and reinstall them later, since it takes maybe 5-10min to reinstall a AAA title.

I've run into an issue with what I believe to be software related. For keyboard shortcuts pressing ctrl + shift + alt is a handy combo, but I've seen it register ctrl + shift + x instead, did anyone else run into this as well? And is there a workaround for it, other than using one of the preset macros or alternatively using the right control instead of the left? Remapping the left control with either a macro or the control button doesn't do the trick unfortunately.

E: I've already tried updating Aorus fusion to 3.8.4

I think it's more of a keyboard firmware question; I know when the laptop shipped originally it had issues that were addressed with a couple of firmware updates, so perhaps you're not on the latest version.

Latest version of the keyboard firmware is 1.2.0 and I've just tried if reverting back to 1.1.8 would help, but no.

Just wondered if someone could help me with overclocking & undervolting my x7 v7 GPU please.

So if i run Superposition benchmark i get a score 10417. This is with my CPU @ 4.0Ghz with a -155mV My average GPU clock is 1720mhz @ avg 0.946 V

I use MSI afterburner and I can run 1848mhz @ 0.875 V & 200mhz mem overclock stable. Temps are much better but i only get a score if 10100? What gives?

    Any idea?

    1850MHz @ 0.875V is a bit too aggressive, try 1800MHz @ 0.875V.

Its normal, if I remember correctly at stock the GPU boost to more than 1800MHz, thats why at stock the score is a bit higher.

The idea is to push the same clock (~1850MHz) or more at lower volts in order to keep the card from power throttling.

Try [email protected], [email protected], 1750MHz@ 0.887V, 1797MHz @ 0.912V, [email protected] and [email protected], keep a straight line above 1.00V to keep the GPU from going over 1.00V.

This should get you better score than stock in addition to lower temps.
