    Sweet.

It just feels like the worst patience test of the year to wait for the Amazon Prime version of 15X.

I see that Newegg just brought in some more. I might just jump in :)

Can one of you guys who bought it from newegg confirm the m2 nvme ssd and memory brands? Also, they list the memory as 1x16gb, but some of the reviews say 2x8gb. Confirming this would be sweet so I know whether to order up some extra stuff right off the bat to install :)

    My new credit card declined the charge because of the amount and security reasons. After clicking yes to making the charge they said re-order the laptop again. So yeah, checked Newegg this morning and out of stock again. I need to be quicker... :{

Amazon and Excalibur are pre-orders for October 16th.

I just preordered from gentechpc. I was a few minutes away from ordering the 15W... glad I called them to ask a couple questions.

... getting the NVMe for the 15W was already a $350 add. Standard on the 15X.

A little wary about buying something with so little reviews, but eager at the same time.

Sweet. According to the early reviews, nothing went wrong with this laptop imo.

Also, along with the NVMe, I'm assuming keyboard and battery management update too.

Hopefully less backlight bleeding and better display hinge as well, but we'll see.

I hope Aero 15X can use Windows Precision or at least Synaptics trackpad. Elan drivers just won't make the cut

You can hack the Dell XPS 15 precision drivers onto the Aero 15. I did it with mine and the trackpad, while still not great, is definitely better than standard elan drivers.

    There's a how-to in the owner's lounge somewhere, though I can't remember which page.

Hopefully a similar hack will work on the Aero 15x. I would expect that it would as long as the trackpad hardware remains the same.

The 15X isn't that much of an upgrade over the original right? Here in the UK it's priced only £100 more than the model I have. The 1070 Max-Q is more of a 1065 over the 1060?

If you need a laptop now I wouldn't hold out on the 4K I've spoken to my contact at Gigabyte and they told me they're still sourcing the 4K panels because of the 5mm bezel requirement. Might be some time next year or not at all (don't quote me on the latter).

I was afraid that would be the case. Well I am just waiting till black friday sales before making up my mind. I am really interested in this, as it is more portable than the AW13 OLED and has the 4 lane thunderbolt 3.0 port for eGPUs unlike the handicapped one in the Dell XPS15. So it is at the top of my list to replace the KM1 but a 4K screen would have been nice for edits on the go.

Guess I'd have to see 4K to appreciate it on only a 15" laptop, however the 15x is capable right now to run an HDMI monitor at 4K, correct? I don't even use my laptop screen right now to play games. Too much goes un-noticed.
Meanwhile Amazon (ExcaliburPC) has beefed up the 15X a bit:
    https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-15X...rd_wg=BwUhG&psc=1&refRID=SB6FGCSYSE305YYSXHVB
Wish they would just give a model with something more than Windows 10 home. I have Windows 64 bit Professional on my present laptop and not sure what sacrifices I'll have to endure with Windows home.

You can get Win 10 Pro from other sellers. GentechPC for one.

The only thing I'll miss with Home vs Pro is RDP, but there are ways to compensate for that.

Multiple external 4K should be no problem.

Well the thing with (a good) 4K screen on laptops, in the 15.6 and 17.3 inch sizes, is that it really helps with photo and video editing. I prefer it for solidworks stuff too. I never though it would work, but once I used in the P775DM3, I just got hooked to it. Now it is difficult to work with FHD. For playing games, well I reckon FHD panels are just fine. You really need that 4K for content creators, photographers, and those who want it.

I have an external monitor at home too but I travel a lot and most of my work is done on the laptop so having a nice 4k screen, like Dell's XPS15 would be a huge bonus. I like the idea of connecting a gigabyte box to the Aero 15 and getting (almost) desktop level of performance and be able to just unplug it and still get 80% of that performance. So that is my thinking. It is increasingly becoming clear that AW13 R3 offers the best compromise, even though it is a chubby little bastard of a machine.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess Windows 10 Home for me has no really big down side and I should be happy without a 4K laptop screen.

Waiting for news on keyboard :)

I'm also curious about cooling and noise.

[EDIT]As for Windows 10 Pro, you can get a valid key on ebay for 10-15$, and it updates in place.

The keyboard on the Aero 15X is running firmware 3.0.1 and from my quick tests is fixed, possibly a hardware revision of the keyboard, if you have any specific key combos let me know and I will try them.

    Optical drive
    4K screen option
    Full fat GTX 1070

Please try theses key combinations referenced in the post:

If fixed this will fix a dealbreaker for me. Hopefully this goes to the regular aero soon too as I may want to save some money.

This is a difficult decision.. I'm either going to order this thing when it pops up on amazon or hold out for the Asus GL503VS 144hz IPS w/regular 1070 GTX.. so far reviews on the other 503/703's are not that great as far as build quality goes, but that 144hz hahaha :p

Can anyone confirm the build quality of the Aero 15x? Is it as advertised by Newegg? Is it really all aluminum?

I can neither confirm nor deny since I don't have it, but when newegg writes all aluminium, then you can be pretty sure that it is. They cannot downright lie to their customer, I'm pretty sure that would even be risking a lawsuit.

You should be far more concerned about the temperatures.

Ineligible for Amazon Prime, but a third party shop has 4 Aero 15X in stock.

Funny thing is these are not search-able.

I was lucky to find it clicking a bunch of "Customers who view this item also blah blah blah"

Very Sly. No one in Gigabyte or Amazon ever let us know when these will be out.

Except one chat rep dude who implied today's release by saying in "48hrs".

I think someone in this board bought #5 of that stock a page back.

My order is in the next batch of stock with GentechPC, which should be mid month. Their extras and cash discount were the selling points, though it definitely tests my patience with stock configs available now on Amazon.

Hoping to see some hands-on reports popping up here soon.

I'm no authority on reviewing laptops and not a big gamer (more into video editing)

but if mine does come in Thursday according to FedEx I can at least post things like how much of an aluminum shell is actually on this thing, condition upon arrival and perhaps any other questions you guys can think of if not too complicated. You will have to get me links to software temperature tests, etc. if you want info like that. I'm not too bright when it comes to that sort of stuff.

If you can point me to a cool and up to date third person game (first person games make me nauseous sometimes) I can run frame rates using FRAPS on the quality/resolution settings you want. I do have all three Mass Effect games including Andromeda. I'm looking for another great looking 3rd person game I can add to my library and if anyone has any suggestions it will be appreciated.

I am not making an advertisement here, but I went with HIDevolution's Aero 15X yesterday. Reason being, HIDevolution looked like they are going save me lots of time and effort. I was waiting on the Amazon Prime version of Aero 15x because they are very replacement-friendly. My original plan was to make replacements until I get backlight bleeding free Aero 15X. Now, that is not an easy task, given I might have to go through several times of replacements. It takes at least one full week to do replacements even though they do a big favor for me to save some time. And, imagine I have to wait for the next batch of Aero 15x....THAT is going to take "who-knows" at least 2 weeks. After voluntarilly losing golden opportunities to get Aero15x from Newegg twice, I started to run out of patience and ended up thinking this potentially-multiple-replacement-plan does not make a good sense.

And....HIDevolution had this "minimum BLB quality check option" for $100. They say its going to be the top 20% display condition. Not sure if this is a guarantee for no BLB because they are not answering my question all the sudden, but I went on to bet on their Aero 15x. If anyone has experience with HIDevolution's minimal BLB option, please let me know. One thing to add is....Ted K from HID told me they can do Grizzly Conductonaut and Kryonaut for CPU and GPU instead of the original CoolLab Liquid Ultra and IC Diamond option. So, I asked for the Grizzly repastes. If you are a Notebookreview memeber with at least 5 posts, you can take $30 off the total, too. I think I'd be very very happy when everything turns out well. But, we'll see.

The 15X shell is certainly not all aluminum, assuming you mean is it similar to a Macbook if so, its is not.

The base plate, the palm rest, the top screen casing and screen bezel are aluminum, however the main chassis is plastic.

The construction is totally solid and does feel very premium when you are using the 15X, sadly the casing is a fingerprint magnet, even slight oil from your fingers shows up instantly on the matte finish.

Does the screen flex badly? like on the video at 2:43?

My current laptop macbook air doesn't do this at all and moves the entire laptop when attempted to twist the screen.

The panel used in the Aero 15X is exactly the same as in the Aero 15, you will have BLB no matter what, if you pay $100 extra it won't make much difference IMO, it's always present with this type of screen.

You may get a 'good' panel, but it is very subjective, I guarantee all will display BLB under examination. However if you use the laptop under normal conditions and do not sit looking at a black screen with 100% brightness you will probably not notice the BLB with this panel type, so far I've seen five 15X screens and they all had BLB, they appeared to have the worst bleed along the lower edge of the screen.

My 15X has minor BLB, but its still present and I cherry picked this, under normal use it's fine for me, I'm really loving this laptop so far.
