They returned me with a huge stupid power adapter! I even laughed out when I see it. Nice work done Gigabyte! If I don’t accept then Wait another 2 months! Holly **** this has been an nightmare. I will call Taiwan office directly and that s my last hope. Now my slim lap top has a adapter has same weight as it! Haha

I am stuck with this machine and if anything goes wrong I can't send it back for warranty. Fortunately, I am closer to Taiwan
but I don't know if their service there is better.
I have other issues with this machine. Whenever I close the lid or at least partially close it, this laptop will sleep immediately. In other laptops it does not happen. Is there any option on how to solve this? Also about the battery life,
what are your settings to make it last 6-7 hours? I have been using it only for work at the moment and not in gaming
but I am only lasting 4-5 hours with wifi on and brightness at 25%. Is it normal? or am I just expecting too much from this
machine? -
Is there something going on with this machine? It no longer shows up on several retailer sites like Newegg and HIDevolution. Has it been discontinued or put on hold due to the power adapter and keyboard chatter issues?

Oh, I did not read about the sizes of the brick. Would you mind taking a picture of the bricksize and its specs? -
Last I heard they should have the newest batch ready to ship from Taiwan middle of the month, so soon hopefully.
I ordered one last week and the wait is beginning to make me look at alternatives. -

This is mine, same as this pic taken from the Notebookreview review of the Aero 15. According to your measurements we have the same thickness but yours is about 1 inch shorter and 1 inch wider. Actually I would prefer a shorter adapter so I don't see what all of the fuss is about honestly. They are probably the same weight. -

I also have the sockfish adapter, bought from a Gigabyte store in central Taipei. (No USB.)

Strangely enough, the Razer blade's plug fits into the Aero 15x. The rating is 19V 7.9A vs 19.5V 10.3A. Would there be any damage in using the Razer charger on the Aero 15?

For the ampere it is different. Never go much lower than the laptop's standard. Higher doesn't matter. It can even help the adapter because it won't have to work at it's full capacity. Ampere is all about how much power it can deliver to the laptop.
The amount of ampere the laptop asks is relative. When you are doing higher performance task, the laptop will ask for higher ampere than when it is idle. If your laptop asks more (for example during a game) and the adapter can not deliver the power, that could cause problem with possible hardware damage.
The wattage does not matter, that is how efficient the adapter is (power consuming wise).
So for your adapter, I wouldn't advise you to use it with high performance gaming tasks.sockfish and Vistar Shook like this. -

I got a similar email from Amazon. Not a lot of confidence in Gigabyte right now.

Do you think that this email notification was sent due to a huge backorder? It took me over two months to finally get mine.
Also, I’ll chime in on issues. Only issue I’ve experienced was the Fusion software was not installed and that the laptop has minimal screen bleed.
I Have not experienced keyboard chatter, the hinge is stronger/tighter than I expected and I haven’t noticed what others have experienced, the charger is the smaller one with usb (my laptop was shipped back to gigabyte by xoticpc due to panel damage when xoticpc received the laptop - gigabyte didn’t switch out the charger like some have said happened to them, maybe they adjusted the panel with the screen due to the damage?), the laptop with IC Diamond paste on the cpu will get as high as 80/85c while gaming - recently bought a stand that raises the laptop about an inch off the surface and have noticed the cpu reaches around 73/78c on the stand (laptop is not undervolted).
Hopefully I won’t eat my words but I feel like this was a good one in a batch of laptops that have experienced issues.

Well I was online with Amazon support weekly ensuring it was still on the way. I got the cancellation email mere days after being assured a shipment was on the way. I raised absolute hell but they had nothing of value to add- Gigabyte gave them indication they would never be getting stock.
Now, interesting point. There appears to be a new model (appended with CK2) referenced here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/31530065/
The cancellations could be that Gigabyte has discontinued the CK1 and have developed a new revision. Will be interesting to see what that new revision contains (new keyboard anyone??)
In any case I grabbed a new Aero 14 at a deep discount from a local retailer clearing them out. Experience has been fantastic, I'm not sure the 15x will warrant a $1000 CAD premium, especially given the new whisper mode released by Nvidia that allows me to game at high settings with a very quiet machine (capping at 60 fps). -
Edit: The CF2 looks to have the same exact specs, though this was interesting:

To maximize your mobility, the AERO 15 comes with a new ultra-thin power adapter equipped with an USB port for quick charging capabilities" -

Just got mine up and running, is this level of IPS backlighting normal? I can see this all the time and it’s driving me nuts!
I’ve been spoilt with a precision m5520 but needed something with dedicated graphics to run a Rift but the 15x is doing OK so far!!
-
-
Thank you I will give that a go!
I just seem to notice it all the time regardless of screen / light levels so would be good if I can get rid of it! -
Is anyone else getting issues since the latest BIOS update? Every time the laptop is woken from hibernation, it runs so slow that it crashes. A hard reset has to be done to get it working again.
-
Hey guys, I just want to know your average battery life? Because mine was no way near from the advertised 7 hours.
I use battery saver all the time and the brightness is at around 30-40% and I turned off the backlit keyboard but still
I get 4 hours max. -
I switched mine to just the integrated and find the battery life to be ok, not quite as good as my precision was but I can just about get a daydroidfury likes this. -
Every site is removing the Aero 15X or showing as discontinnued, anyone have any info about that? Still trying to buy...

When cards do become available, they are often priced by third-party sellers at more than double or even triple Nvidia's and AMD's suggested list prices. ( Source: CamelCamelCamel)
"Cryptocurrency miner demand is not sustainable or predictable over the long term. These buyers tend to flee as soon as profitability wanes as they do not have any brand loyalty and only care about mining return on investment. "With availability consumed by the cryptocurrency mining market, there is little chance for any PC gamer to find a graphics card in stock, let along close to the expected price point," Shrout Research's Ryan Shrout wrote in an email. "Because of that, many enthusiasts and DIY builders are putting off system builds and upgrades completely, setting up an unfortunate situation for all other component vendors from processors to motherboards to storage." ( Source: CNBC)
I'm sure the high demand is temporary but this makes it very hard to buy computers with quality GPUs right now.Last edited: Jan 23, 2018 -

Because there is more demand for desktop GPUs, those GPUs have a higher priority at the production. This causes a delay in the production process for laptop GPUs.Last edited: Jan 23, 2018 -

I notice it the most when i have a my monitor (screen) plugged in to the laptop, tried admi and displayport both causes the sound, but when i plug my monitor in a power source down stairs the sound is almost gone, but when i remove the plug that charges the laptop the sound gets worse! I also thing the laptop broke my usb hub..
Maybe too much power being supplied to the ports?
I have no idea whats going on..

I have Rockit's at home, had some very irritating hum and whine until I put a GLI between my [desktop] audio output and the speakers. I also DJ on occasion, with a Really Old Tank of a laptop, and keep a couple of spare GLIs with me in the event.
What I use at home: "Peripheral PGLI35 3.5mm Ground Loop Isolator".
Amazon no longer has the models I keep in my laptop bag, but "Mpow Ground Loop Noise Isolator for Car Audio" looks like it might be a good candidate for you also.
I read this forum because I've been saving up for a 15x. Hopefully I won't have to 'settle' for a 15/1060.

I'm getting a distinct feeling that while the specs and design of this laptop are great, the build is pretty crap and cheap. Corners cut.
I'm always cautious with online comments etc. - as reports of issues from a few can be an exception rather than the normal state of things. Especially so with enthusiasts or more vocal people.
But I don't think there are many Aero 15x's in the wild, and some issues really seem bad.
Seems you can at the very least expect keyboard issues, a generally not great screen, and potentially major backlight and other quality issues.
Comments about the build quality of the Dell XPS 15 (which I was looking at before) put me off, and likely contributed to my not getting one. I've read about battery swelling issues with them now. Is the XPS 15 badly made and riddled with issues too?
I just want a high quality, high spec do it all laptop as a desktop replacement.
I currently use a small HP EliteBook which is getting too old (and the screen and resolution are too low for non docked use really), but the build quality etc. is great.
You'd think when you pay such a premium - £2k feels a bit nuts (I was aiming for £1.5k) - that the quality would be high. Cheap panels and chargers just sounds poor. How can a 2k laptop have a crappy cheap charger? I guess you're just paying for the spec/design I guess. Certainly not the brand, service, or quality it seems.margroloc likes this. -
I made the mistake of turning my precision 5520 back on and I’ll be going back to that + my aorus gaming box (even though the laptop only has 2lanes of tb) for my oculus
My xps13 did have the battery issue which dell refused to replace.
I do like the aero but I don’t love it. Of all the “gaming” laptops I looked at and messed with, it is by far the closest to the 5520 I’ve found. That is in terms of size, battery life, power and build quality. It’s certainly not a cheap build quality (like the Gs62 for example) but it’s not aluminium and carbon quality
Dell outlet is where I’ve always shopped (last 7years or so I think) and will continue to do so -
Having read the issues with the 15X and the fact it's entirely unavailable, and having gone through multiple 15 returns, I ended up grabbing an Aero 14 with 1060. It's turned out to be a fantastic purchase. The keyboard is great, screen very nice to look at, and the performance is fantastic. Best of all, a local retailer here in Canada had it on sale for $400 off. Popped another 16gb stick in to bring it to 32gb and I now have a beastly mobile work + gaming rig.
Just wanted to address some of the 15X concerns, I feel they're justified. The 14 seems to be the machine Gigabyte put the most thought into. -
Really? But the 14 has wide bezels, is almost the same size, and perhaps not even as slim unless I'm mistaken on that part?
Also no Thunderbolt 3 right?
So no scope for using an eGPU in the future
