I highly doubt the new XPS 13 will be under 1.5kg like the Vaio Z. I hope it will be cheaper at least and it will offer an 1600x1200 LED option. The Vaio Z screen is great!

I wouldn't mind if it was around the same price point. It's a dell so my dad will buy it. He doesn't want me having a Sony laptop because then it'll look as nice as his.

I like how the story has no source mentioned what so ever. They just tossed dates up.

Haha indeed, looking more likely they're real after all Jayson. :) We'll know in two days or so now!

Did you by any chance come across more information about Montevina upgrades for existing notebooks btw, Jayson? Still hoping for an XPS upgrade this month and if not I guess I'd just as well wait for the new XPS 13 or so. :) Not really in a hurry.

well you see the slides are basically a cheap roadmap for internal dell only. so ofcourse there are lots of errors not everything is top notch. Dell may be waiting to finish off current chipset and processor stock first.. should come online sometime soon.. but anyway tomorrow we will see the studio desktops coming online which will prove the legality of the slides as they also mention those.

That news story confirms nothing Jayson. There is no hint of a source mentioned at all. I could post make up release dates into a table and put them on a forum too and a place like engadget would pick it up within a day. I'm not saying that you are wrong I'm just saying that we don't have an official source so it's all speculation and rumors.

tential.. if tomorrow the 16th of september as that site says.. the 2 studio desktops comeout u have to bail on the legality of the slides.. as the slides say there are 2 studio desktops to be launched in september.. and there is no other info on that.. if that site dates are real we shall see tomorrow.

Thanks for the little tidbits, Jayson.

I'm not expecting anything, but I'm hoping Dell might announce something on Thursday, when their '7 days of deals' for XPS ends in Europe. :)

The XPS 16 will be replacing it. They will most likely go with 16:9 AR making a 16 inch notebook about the same size, just an inch wider.

I really hope it will not be heavier than the 1530. Dell has not a great history in making lightweight notebooks.

The M1210 was extremely light weight. The current XPS M1330 and M1530 aren't that bad either. I had heard Dell was looking at carbon fiber, but I haven't heard much more about that.

I wouldn't mind a 16" if they can keep the weight to sub 6lbs. About the same dimension and weight as the G50V would be good. That's the only knock I have on the G50V, the dimension is huge but the screen is only 15"

unless its plastic colored to look like carbon fiber. that laptop would cost $1000 to build before you add the electronics(carbonfiber alone), by the time it ships out.. the cheapest laptop would cost something like $2500. although its weight reducing would be the biggest gain. i dont really see it as very usefull..

Is the 16 inch screen a regular CCFL panel? In that case I'm not very impressed.

Carbon fiber is a much better heat conductor. It would dissipate heat much better than the plastics used now.

I wonder why they'd choose to make the 16's screen 16:9 but not the 13. I doubt they would, but I hope they'd give options for resolutions a bit higher than 1280x800. I guess I've been spoiled by the 1600x900 Sony has fit in their 13" notebook. Many would find it too high for them, but an option for it would be nice, especially since its an XPS.

I'd guess they would probably be 1280x720, 1600x900 and 1920x1080. My guess is that the LED would probably be right in the middle at 1600x900.

i doubt youll be willing to pay extra money to cool down your laptop, would you pay even an extra $300 to cool it down?(so it would feel cooler on your lap)
the carbon fiber casing would not provide any additional cooling to any parts inside the laptop.
and you do realize when saying that its a good heat conductor(im not sure, but i dont think it is) that this means that its gonna heat up more and faster as well..

I worked for a couple of hours on a Vaio Z at 1600x900 with Premiere Pro and Maya 8.5. It's a great display and I had no problems. My only problem is now I cannot buy a notebook with a lower resolution for myself anymore.

In practical terms, and given the dimensions of a 16.4" screen, 1600x900 resolution would be the equivalent of 1440x900 on a regular 15.4" panel. The extra pixels on the horizontal account for the extra width.

The whole point of the 16 screen is to give a true 16 by 9 ratio. That means the screen is either going to be 1280 * 720 or more likely given Sony and HPs 16 inch laptops 1920 * 1080 full HD.

The 13 will most likely be 1280 * 720 depending on if it is designed to be a true 16 by 9 ratio screen.

Personally I think the new 16 inch laptop trend makes them look too rectangular but, that is something that will no doubt grow on me in time.

If the 13" is 16:9 I expect it will be 1366*768. Just like the cheaper versions of Sony Z.

The Acer and HP 16" laptops also have 1366*768.

HP's Pavilion HDX 16 has an optional 1920 * 1080 screen and the Acer blue also has a 1920 * 1080 display as does the Sony Vaio FW.

Which ones come with 1366 * 768 screens or is it the base models?

Unless I missed it I can't seem to find the Studio's anywhere on dell's website. This is why I have stopped trusting all these "leaks" with no sources. These websites shouldn't call themselves news when they just copy and paste anything they find from any source.

I'm almost positive someone took a look at the slides and just tossed out some dates meaning that those dates are nothing more than information we already had speculation on. Either way Dell just hit the lowest stock price it has hit in 7 years. Maybe the announcement of a new product that actually makes money (not netbooks), would help them...

Hell no! At this point I'll personally take false promise over Dells official stance of a complete XPS marketing blackout. As will the hundreds/thousands who 'five starred' your thread, stranger. :)

Such articles of potential whimsy might even encourage them to break their silence. Not least when any actual false products could dampen what, if anything they might genuinely have in store for the line.

These images have appeared on countless tech blogs at this point and I have yet to see Dell move to squash the whispers. That can only be an encouraging analysis.

I just think it's annoying when people post rumors as straight facts. I been waiting for the Centrino 2 Platform for a bit now and it's been people saying with authority "August", the "September", now "November". I mean I know those are what you are speculating but don't state it as a fact.

Maybe you haven't noticed but Dell isn't very forthcoming about facts. So, we must rely on insiders to leak out some information. Perhaps it would be best if you just stuck to looking at the Dell site and eventually one day it will change, then you'll have your facts.

well dell is supplying montevina.. in the latest latitudes that is! and even quad cores.. which i dont see in other brands! the big problem here is the stock they have on hand on the older processors and chipsets im sure. the info i gave are not facts.. they are just info. for internal use.. things may change from day to day.. dell may become bankrupt tomorrow and we will never see the light of the new xps's.. lol. joking. but u get me. once you see these xps m1530 promos dieing off im sure some news will appear.

Great..... So all those times that we've been telling people to hold off on buying M1530 because a new one is coming is delaying the release of the new XPS?

Change of plan people. Buy your M1530 now, don't wait. :D
