i think it is about 3 months (90 days) so as soon as they release it next month, return the notebook! if you have till about november 24th, i should be fine, as the notebooks will probably be released before the 24th of nov.

anyone know if these slides are official, and

to the thread starter: HOW did you get the slides?

Hmm the Studio XPS have those features that sounds like they will be very expensive.

And 13 is too small but 16 is too large for me.

Is Studio(which is said to be in between Inspiron and Studio XPS) going to have montevina and some performance graphic card in 15" model?

Anyway, Nov...Dell I don't know what are you planning but you are quite slow.

Why make Inspiron Introduce Studio then put Studio XPS and still have XPS line? That's a lot of overlap.

Because the current XPS range is officially the Inspiron XPS range?

Would fit in with the comments from Dell of having studio and inspiron versions of the XPS?

@plsdonotbug - these slides are legit i guarantee u that.. they are from dell, exactly where cant say... just like the latitude ones are that were proven legit afterwards... and i remind u all! that this is mearly a roadmap, not a technical spec sheet of the products.. the name Studio XPS is just for reference.. they might stick with XPS on the final release just like they did with the " Inspiron Studio " ...

Can you explain a bit about those current models "with new Montevina processor" please?

Like, if so, what will be the power cost and performance compare with "current chipset + current processor" or "Montevina chipset + Montevina processor"?

It looks like the Studio 13 won't have a 16:9 screen option since its listed on the Powerpoint slides for the 16 model but not 13 unlike the similar 13" Vaio Z. :(

The real question. What incentive does dell have to delay montevina until 3 months + after it's release?

Lets not forget about the unrealeased Dell Studio 1536 model that never came to light yet. It features an e-sata/usb combo port the 1535 does not have (well it does, but it doesn't work). Dell should NEVER pull what Acer does all the time and just ship models out with buttons for features that don't exist in the machine. The 1536 is AMD based, so the 1535 is getting no love with a useless port.

Does that include the XPS 1530 in the current models that will be available with motevina chipsets late agust/early september? If so, does that mean Dell will be offering a new GPU over the old 8600m GT?

    Thanks

Jayson, is the CURRENT Dell Studio line getting the Montevina treatment this August for a fact? Shame on Dell for releasing the Dell Studio line so close to the Montevina release and having people pay top dollar for old hardware and then refresh it 2 months later. This is why people hate Dell, because of these tactics among other things.

Just like the Walmart Dell Inspiron 1318 exclusive before actual Dell.com release. It shipped with just a label saying Inspiron but now the new models say Inspiron 1318 and are more complete. Looks like Dell is starting a new trend to release a product to the public for testing so they don't have to and THEN finalize it.

What will be the difference between Studio 15 Montevina and Studio 15 XPS Montevina? Only nVidia graphics?

If so it is a strong reason not to get the XPS...

Jayson, please tell your contacts I have a negative interest on getting a nVidia card.

Something like this would be fine:

    Intel 4500MHD [included in price]
    nVidia 9600GT 512 DDR3 [subtract $320]

    ;P

?? yeah so pretty much the new ones look worse than the current ones... I really hope they don't use this design. I would be happy If they kept the current XPS look, maybe with some subtle modifications. If this is what they are going to look like I am glad I bought the M1530.

I hope Dell improves the new Studio XPS with more than just cosmetic materials. The XPSM1530 speakers were probably the worst I've ever heard on a laptop, not to mention the crackling. Toshiba uses some really good Harmon Kardon and even HP uses Altec Lansing speakers which sound far better than the Dells.

There is no information on price or any further details of the hardware that will be used (i.e., what graphics card, type of RAM, etc.). If you absolutely must have a new laptop for school, then don't cancel your order. If you can get by on library or lab computers, then you could consider canceling. Remember that even if these do come out at some point in November, shipping delays might mean that you will only get your hands on one in December (hopefully not!).

It won't be out until November but add 3-4 weeks to build and deliver and your semester is over and you spent the whole semester in a computer lab.

Am I being a bit too sceptical but, is this a genuine? how much credibility doest his rumour have?

As someone has said already, while XPS becoming a sub-brand makes sense, the images shows the m1330 continuing beyone Nov.

The M1530 is EOL (or is about to be) It seems unlikley that the rumoured Studio 13 XPS will co-exist with the m1330. Something's gotta give.

I remain unconvinced (but excited by the possibility).

if you read the thread properly.. and if you have what i have which is the full Q3 (3RD QUARTER ROADMAP) not 4th Quarter, you will understand, as i said the M1530 is the better seller out of the 3 XPS's available now so they estimate in October it will EOL.. the M1330 and M1730 will follow shortly after.. its basically the same with what you have now with the Latitudes..

Can anyone make a rough estimate on the price tags of the new XPSs? (assuming that they will be as they look in the Pictures Jayson showed)

I am not asking on a full detailed bill here, but you think they will be in the 1500-2500$ price range or the 2500-3500$?

Hey there! I would say in the $1500-$2500 range...not the $2500-3500 range..unless you really maxxed on the specs/build.

I got my 1530 when it first came out, and I didn't even pay $1500 for it then ;) :)

    Just my opinion!

If they are infact to be trim levels of the 'lesser' Studio range, they've effectively already positioned a ceiling above what they could ask for. Purely through branding.

I'm waiting for a laptop to compete with the Sony Z. No 13 inch laptop has DDR3 ram in it but that one. I seriously hope the new XPS has DDR3 ram so as to sip as little power as possible. If not I'll still probably get it simply because the battery life is good.

Your best basis for comparison would be whatever a comparable Vaio or Macbook(Pro?) is selling for. That's the 'style consious' niche that these will be trying to occupy, and to do so they would have to be competitive.

Not to be off topic but the Lenovo U330 which they are taking pre-orders for September delivery has DDR3 ram and switchable GPU and the price with the 15% coupon brings it down below $1k. Plus the price includes an LED screen.
