i really can't wait to see their edge to edge, or "floating display", screen. if its anythin like the sony bravia design, then i will definitely have to put a new studio xps 16" in my wish list.![]()

By the way, I'm all for the M1530 getting Montevina. If the new Studio XPS laptops won't be out until November, then it makes sense for Dell to add Montevina to existing lines until then. Wonder if it will get a GPU change too. -
Where did you get those slides from Jayson?
Anyone with good photo editing skills could have made that. Sorry to question you, but I do. -
This is at the front page of engadget.
-
Look at the link of the pictures on the engadget page, they link to that thread!
Look before they change it. -

After looking at these again, they could've easily been faked. Plus, look at the bottom right on the last two, the text goes over the Dell logo on the bottom.

Is the subforum going to be arranged to group the Studio XPS and XPS together, since I assume the Studio XPS will also fall under the XPS branch with XPS technical support? I hope the technical support for the Studio XPS will not be shafted.
-
I hope they retain the aluminum quality on the inside. The outside looks good, but the XPS m1330/m1530 looks nicer imo.
-
God those new ones look ugly! Jeez the wood on them makes them look like they come from the 1970's
-
Quite honestly, I would take this "leak" and definitely engadget's
rolleyes
with a grain of salt. It could be that Jayson has some insider info (doubtful), or it could just be someone getting his rocker off. Considering he only has 11 posts, and just joined in june, I'd be skeptical. Sorry, not trying to come off as a jerk, but I'm not quick to believe anything I hear.
Until there's actual evidence (i.e. it's on Dell's website), I would be skeptical.
Sorry if I rained on anyone's parade.
There might be a resurgence of retro lurking at dell.
Some engineer is still living in the 70's.

jayson can you PLEASE answer that?
they dont sell alienware here.. i was counting on this update to happen. i just didn't realize no more 17'.. if these are there 17' high end gaming notebook.. i will be willing to pay now
thanks for the info -
Ok, I have to admit, the wood grain one looks pretty ugly. Got to give it to Dell for trying something different, though.
-
interesting, hope it isnt better than the Z.
-
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
at least bluray on the 13" XPS... but what is the 'floating glass' thing?
-
I don't know, I kinda find the wood nice looking. It adds a certain quality to the notebook. Makes it look a little more elegant and high-end. Almost like wood in cars is considered a luxury feature.

The new question for me would be wait until November for the Studio XPS 16 or buy the M1530 Centrino 2 refresh model next month ? I think I'm leaning toward waiting for the XPS 16. -
My first post but I been waiting on dell since my dad is obsessed with me getting a dell laptop over anyother brand. He believes like they are less likely to get stolen will have beter support and everything.
Anyway I been waiting to get a laptop since the laptop I have now sucks for just about everything. I saw this and the only reason I can think of this being posted is to make people not want to wait for an XPS. Those are design features and that laptop will cost you 2k for those features that don't add performance? You can get everything there in an expensive Sony Z series with DDR3 ram(not that expensive when you think it's one of the few 13 inchers with gfx card and DDR3), or a Lenovo for 1300 or less even at 14 inches.
Anyway if this is true I'm extremely disappointed in the presentation of these slides and the fact that it will take til November? Being 3 months late to the market and still selling Geforce 8 Series Laptops when there seems to be a problem(I hope people can agree with that no matter how slight of a problem it is) makes me have little faith in wanting to make my next laptop a dell. The alternatives seem good with the T400 hitting a very low price and the Sony Z hitting style and performance too. The only reason I want to wait for dell is to get a smaller laptop since I think 13 inches is going to be pretty nice on battery life but dell is taking their time instead of just letting us know that montevina won't be out until a certain date. It's not like the general consumer knows what that means anyway. -
seems too much like a fake for me, dell arnt that stupid to not make a spreadsheet right whent they sell millions of laptops a year.
Studio xps 15" is mentioned on the pages with the dates but dosent have a little "review pagee" while the studio xps 16" isnt on the date page and does have a review page.
where is the 13" inspiron and why does it show a end to m1530 and not the m1330.
the spreadsheet has wods going out the boxs on the sides, not very professional from someone like dell?
so either dell missed loads of info, made mistakes and cant make a proper spreadsheet, or its a fake. i dont know which. -
Studio XPS 13 is nice!
-
Well not to mention Jayson has few posts and I like how Engadget takes his word for truth to further the rumor. If I was Dell I would release the real information now as a rumor like this can hurt them if they continue to wait. In 2-3 days I feel like it will be necessary to buy a new laptop since an XPS won't give me anything new that another laptop out there doesn't have (in terms of useful features). Could easily be a ploy by another company to show how far behind dell is.
Wouldn't it make more sense to sell new laptops in September? They sold all the faulty m1330s they could to get the back to school crowd so they clear old inventory and then they can release a new laptop that people may upgrade to. If I was dell I would hold onto selling 8 series geforce as long as possible to get rid of it rather than get ****ed over later. All the companies can say Centrino 2 and people don't know what that means but 1 is better than 2. -
I am still waiting for him to tell us where he got the powerpoint from.
-
the 13" looks sleek but the features make it sound EXTREMELY expensive
glad i jumped on the lenovo u330 deal - has almost everything in the studio xps 13 and i can get it in a few weeks AND it was cheap
nice work though dell...theyve been great with the redesigns, they just need to have some more deals on their laptops (especially the ultraportable ones!) -
what's this "RGB" LED Screen? don't all screens on laptops RGB?
-
-
-
I'm sure they will have an option to get it. It'll cost more of course.
-
Also, why would dell release the new XPS line with HDMI when they've clearly taken a step towards supporting Displayport instead on the new latitudes?
Also why refresh the XPS lines (with new motherboards no less) to have them be replaced with a new line two months later? Makes zero sense to me... and the slides look like they were made by a 15 year old at best. There is the 5% probability that these are true and that Dell are much bigger retards than we think.. but I doubt it very much.
I can't believe other websites are running this like it as already announced.. and there are requests for changing subforums! -

The only way I can believe this is that Dell is banking on having "new" laptops for Christmas while everyone has already had their laptops out. Either way nothing seems to be adding up. -
If these slides are legit, then they do follow the trend we've seen with Dell laptops in recent times - they get leaked a few weeks or even months before release. It happened with the M1330, M1530, and the new Latitudes. Plus, The Register posted an article saying that we'd see Studio XPS and Inspiron XPS laptops "soon." And further, still assuming the slides are right, Dell obviously knows something that we don't which is why they're only coming out with the new laptops in November. I think they will be pushing for the Christmas buying season if they release the new laptops then.
Or maybe the person who created these fake slides intentionally accounted for the above reasons.
From what I know, the majority of Dell's business is through online and phone sales, and not from computers sold at retail stores, so they might not lose much by waiting to update to Montevina. The current line seems to be selling well, even 1.5 months after Montevina came out. -
I need more photos of the Studio XPS before I can whether or not the m1530 refresh is better or not. The current m1530 is still sexy and hot. The one photo of the Studio XPS doesn't cut it for me right now.
-
guys guys.. please dont forget what i uploaded aint for the public.. only for internal use so dont criticize etc.. there are flaws.. but its mearly only a ROADMAP?! anyway.. if u notice it has similarities to the Latitude Presentation uploaded some time ago before they came out.. believe it or not! =)

So, is the CURRENT Studio lineup getting a refresh in any way or is this for the NEW Studio XPS lineup. The slides ARE contradictive and this morning I cancelled my Studio 17 order because of this. I was greatly set on finally getting one until these slides popped up. >:-(
-
hybrid SLI = nvidia chipset = MY WHOLE LAPTOP IS GOING TO MELT!!!111 this looks fake, but it does look like dell is trying to pull a vostro for the xps. same chassis, but better materials

Yeah, this leak sounds exactly right, it's a higher end version of the current studio laptop. As one reviewer said, the studio is for "creative types" like myself [w/ SLI! & RGB LED!!!] so I'm really excited about this Hybrid Studio with a quality build taken from the XPS line.
I think this it totally legit. All their current lines seem to be getting redesigned in some way. The next logical kind of system they make is a gamer's dream machine: some kind of souped up XPS [a 17" fo' sure]. Hey, I just coined a cool name for this system: AMPED XPS. [A homage to Amp'd Mobile]. -
I don't think the slides are fake. The Latitude series presentation was kinda same style, not really better and all the presented notebooks became truth. I have no doubt in these models too.
-
I am more on the sceptic side concerning these slides than on the hurray one.
Just a gut feeling...
