I have finally managed to compile a complete set of drivers for Windows XP Professional, seeing as Dell don't provide any for that OS.
So far, everything's been running fine for me. The graphics driver resets occasionally (just like it does on Vista) but doesn't seem to cause any problems.
I'm just glad to get rid of Vista - that was horrid!
The .zip I've compiled is 354MB
It contains the following drivers:
- Intel Chipset
- RICOH Flash Media Controller
- IDT Audio
- LAN
- Wireless LAN
- Bluetooth
- Infra-red
- AMD HDMI Audio
- Touchpad
- Webcam
- Graphics (Catalyst 8.9 - modified using Mobility Modder.NET) *
- Mobility Modder.NET
- .NET Framework (v1.1, v1.1 SP1, v2.0 and v2.0 SP1) - required for CCC and Mobility Modder.NET
NOTE: I've not found Quickset drivers yet - sorry!
* Non-WHQL signed video drivers may hose-up blu-ray playback for those with the Optiaric BRD... - Use at your own risk!
You're all more than welcome to try these if you like, but I need somewhere to upload the .zip to so anyone who wants them can access them.
If you can help, please let me know.
Thanks.

Nice Work...you may want to put a disclaimer up for the modded Catalyst though. Non-WHQL signed video drivers may hose-up blu-ray playback for those with the Optiaric BRD...
http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/
If you want a signed official Catalyst XP driver that wont block blu-ray copy protected playback...just use the 8.9 linked above... -
I got two questions though: does the infrared REALLY work? If so that would be nice
And, where is the driver for the touchsensitive play buttons? -
Ahh, this'd be just perfect for me, drivers are really the only thing holding me back from XP.
Even if just for a temporary upload, could you place it on a site like Rapidshare or Megaupload? -
hello ! I'm from Russia, and I have dell studio 1735 too. you talk about .zip with drivers. where can I download it ?
thks!! -
As for infrared, I have no infrared devices to try, so can't be 100% sure that works. -
Hello there,
I have the same problem like the Gena, where can I find this wander drivers
Thx. -
Would the default IR driver from Microsoft work? That's the one I've been using in Vista, and it's more useful than the Dell driver, because it allows me to use a MCE remote..
-
Have you found a place to post the driver set?
-
Hopefully, available tomorrow
-
I really need these drivers... Tonight...
I will let you most them up to one of my servers and share the link with the forum.

Anyone got MediaDirect to work when tapping the button from a powered off state? What happens to me is I get the MediaDirect splash screen and it then boots to XP.
BTW, deedot, I got my fingerprint reader working just fine. I use many of the Vista drivers believe it or not. Only thing I can't get working is the AverMedia tv card.
Also, is there anyway to have the media buttons remain lit? **** near impossible to try and find the right button without getting up real close to it. -
I can help you with an upload location, I would like to get a copy of the file.

please some one help me

GingerOne, could you tell us where to download sound driver for studio 1735 for windows xp?
-
Sweet, this is exactly what I need!
Could someone explain how this works, in like steps that everyone can unerstand? I already tried installing xp from a cd but it gave a blue screen after loading drivers for a while. Do I simply burn the drivers on a cd along with xp?
sry if this sounds stupid, I'm not an expert and I reeeally would like my old xp back =)
thnx -
will having the xp compatible drivers debilitate my abiliy to play games on my laptop?

-
i don't believe that there are video drivers available except modded ones, and i don't know if that will affect the on-board graphics controller.

@xpon1735: it's working for me now, I only used the drivers on dellstudio.jeroenzelle.nl
1) AMD HDMI Audio Driver (P163694.EXE)
2) patch: kb888111xpsp2.exe
3) IDT PC Audio (PIDT001.EXE) -> this one tells you it isn't compatible with your system but just continue with it and you'll find out it works =) -
where can i download theses at? can some one please leave a link, thank you.

hi ive been working on getting this laptop working with XP and the only driver im having problems with is the wireless N driver:
in the following link, they have a guide to the driver and how to install it... but when i go to device manager it does not show up, so i cant install the driver using that method... dont tell me its already installed or anything... i know lots about computers and it just wont show up... we have 2 studios, one still has vista and shows the wireless 1510 n adapter but in xp it doesn't even show a missing device or anything.
this is the link i was referring to:
htt p://forums.msiwind.net/mac/dell-1510-card-half-height-t4342.html
excerpt:
"Win XP Driver Install
1) Download R189133.exe from dell.com
htt p://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R1891 33&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=259099
2) When you run the file, it will say it can't install the driver.
3) However, you can manually install the driver via the Device Manager.
(right click My Computer... select Properties... select the Hardware Tab... press the Device Manager button... find the network controller with the yellow question mark... right click and select Update Driver...)"
thanks for the help
P.S. i had to put spaces after 'htt" and before "p://" -
Hi,
I was able to get the driver to install. Please refer to my post on page 2.
The link is
//support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R189133&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=259099
It is for latitude systems with windows xp, but it has worked for me.
good luck. -
ya but thats not what im asking.. i tried using your file and another one on a different website, but the problem is that the laptop is NOT detecting the hardware so it wont complete installation due to the fact that it thinks the hardware is not there. any tips on how to get device manager to notice it?
-
nvm got it working.. wifi got disabled in bios some how :\ thanks for all the help.. idk why i didnt check that earlier
-
I have gotten the sound to work using XP and the drivers provided on this site however it sounds terrible. The bass crackles and the sound is really distored. I tried to contact IDT directly but they sent me to my OEM (Dell) and told me they were legally binded to not help me. Is anyone else experiencing this sound issue. Maybe it is a problem specific to my Studio 1735's speakers. Any input would be greatly appreciate. Also as a side note when I plug headphones in they sound great.
-
I was thinking about rolling back to XP MCE but now after reading this thread not so sure. Are all the drivers working in XP?
-
Hi, I have switched to XP and installed all the drivers listed in this forum except a few. Do you guys know where I can get the video drivers for the 1735 from and also my WIFI catcher button and media buttons don't work. Any idea where I can get these drivers from or how to make these features work?
Any help or advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks -
I've been trying to load a fresh XP install on a 2nd internal bootable hdd, but the install always crashes before I get the chance to choose the partition on which to install XP. Has anyone else ran into this issue? I'm ready to drop this vista mess...

I have most of the studio working on XP, except for the usb ports will only recognize up to a 2gb memory stick. Anybody else have this problem or a workaround?
