Watched a few DVD's today. I see what you mean, there are very small artifacts in the blacks and dark areas. The video is very sharp so i wonder if there is some upscaling going on causing the artifacts as 1080p HD video doesnt seem to show them on my machine as far as i can tell.

hey MAXOUTPUT, where r u mate? come on man!!!! i got headache with this stupid problem. look at my post few pages back plz.
-
Hiya
To be honest im not much better off than you. This maybe a codec problem or driver based.
Have you tried different players or installing different codecs (Divx etc), it might also be worth trying the official nvidia drivers, apparantly you can add a line to the set up file so they will install but i have to look at this in more detail.
There are also programs available that hunt the system for broken codecs.
I will have a look at this on my machine asap but havent had much time to play due to work commitments.
regards Tony -
By the way if you want to install drivers from nvidia download the inf file here
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/win7x64/195.81/disclaimer
Now place it in the folder that the setup unpacked when you first tried to install the driver and got the cannot continue prompt.
This should be in C drive-nvidia
Now run the set up from there.
i installed the latest from the nvidia site, dont think its helped, ive also cleaned up my codecs and installed divx with no improvement really.

Actually im lieing,i was watching too closely and was watching a screener, its actually much better when watching a proper dvd lol
I have also adjusted the contrast a little.much better especially when full screen. -
So I have seen my friend's 1558 i7 for the first time today, lime green, what a beauty. I have tested it all day on bios 03 and no unexpected shut downs, the charger is not even warm, screen is so bright that is difficult to look at on max backlight. Its lighter than it looks, very good build quality, keyboard backlight has two setting, half and full power.

It's 5470 1GB.
-
So tis the 1558? How's it handle HD stuff..
-
Had an automated call from Dell today telling me my 1558 would be arriving next Tuesday! Woot!
Very much looking forward to getting my hands on it.
As an aside, does anyone know what make the firewire controller is, can't seem to find any info on it anywhere. Am hoping it's not a Ricoh as I've read they're a bit rubbish.

u got to be careful, even though u can't see them now but it's intermittent. it happenes to me always. it's a laptop, we got to watch videos just seating in front of it. i can't see any single problem in my friends laptop(XPS M1530), even i have got blueray codec film. in my friends xps m1530 these films look very lively where as my one is something whitish though there is not that kind of blocks. As a troubleshoot, i did install klite, divX, CoreAVC codec and also installed nvidia softwares, cuda tool kit etc. i have tried VLC,KMPlayer, WMPLC, WMP.... this sort of players. at present i have installed the latest nvidia driver from hp website which has been released this month. but nothing is fixing this graph blocks problem9it could b called as pixels) in the face sometimes in the leaves of the tree, water... etc. -
What's the deal with the battery? Do you really need to charge it for the full 12hours. That'll be like torture waiting !! -
-
Hi guys,
how is going studio1558? what about u, maxoutput? -
Hi nealloy, we all jumped to this thread
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=468806
Come on over! -
As i dont own a dell i answer here so i dont clog up the other thread with HP talk.
My DV6 is o.k, i have learned to live with the vertical lines as they are part of the screen design and all units will have the same.
I dont watch many films or DVD so i dont really have a problem with regards to artifacts, in fact they were never really much of a problem on my screen, the lines can become problematic when using photoshop though as im never sure if they are on teh screen or image.
Its a very fast machine but it will occasionally stall and fail to finish booting after i login causing me to soft reset, i must have a driver conflict or something.
Apart from that im still pleased with mine. -
In that case i have to admit that i m lucky as i couldn't see any vertical line on my screen so far and even those pixalation problem which i thought may b a monitor problem is not that actually. its because of the resolution (1366X768). i guess all the notebook with this resolution has got the same pixelation problem, it's really negligible. but still video quality is very poor. yesterday one of my flat mate bought acer aspire timeline. i ran the same film same time in both machine and found lots of variances. his quality is vivid and much more better than mine and mine is hazy and white colour is not purely white, also blue is some sort of different. anyway, i have to learn to live with this as u learned. thanks for reply mate. cheers!!!!
