I have just tried to cancel and i need to call Monday, ggrrrrrr. Think ill just order a HP. Dell are a nightmare from start to end, the hasstle i have had is unbelievable.Whats the point in ordering from a company if you have to wait an age for the product, they cancel without telling you,the call center is useless and prices go up due to their own ups.
Ahh sorry about that, needed to rant lol.

If u find any similar machine from any other Brand just let us know. i m also searching for other machine and found HP dv6-2100EA. look at their website for the configuration and price is £849. i spoke with the sells man over the phone and he offered me £750 but i didn't think it was worth enough compare which we ordered for(Studio1558).

I was looking at the dv6-2106ea, pick one up for around £789.
I just want an i7 720 machine that will handle HD video encoding, i dont want a long distance phone and email relationship with a Dell customer service agent that could go on for months.
If i can walk into a retailer and just buy the thing ill be happy lol.

The only problem with hp dv6-2106ea is that it’s made of very cheap chrome look plastics. The edges around are very sharp and the paintwork drives me mad, it looks like electric glass hob. It has much better graphic than dell, geforce 230m is way ahead of ati 5470.

Go to any Currys store, they have both laptops, 1558 and hp but in 17" format just to compare the build quality and design.

Whilst I appreciate your frustration at the remarkably naff service, it might be wise weigh up whether you can obtain an equivalent spec machine for the price of the Dell.

The only thing I can suggest is get in touch with a manager and rant at them. They must be able to expedite our orders.

Only HP dv6-2106ea comes close for the money. It has better graphic but no backlight and worst build quality and design.
There is another problem, 1558 has some manufacture fault, read this
    http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19322774.aspx

I'm going to cancel my order, I don’t want to wait one month for piece of sh...t that will need new motherboard every month. Taking under consideration that 1555 is almost a year old, new system should be available soon.

Guys, can you do me a huge favour.

I've spoken to the sales guy at Dell and he is denying that the 6300 is available for the 1558 as they don't do a 6300!!! I told him that some guys have had there orders transferred to the 1558 with a 6300. He asked me to get an order number so he could confirm the same.

My order is about to go into "pre-production" which means I need this info immediately! Anyone help me out, pretty please?

Right, I don't know what's going on now.

Just been onto them and they say that the particular bundle I got does not have the 6300 available at all. If I want it, I will essentially need to restart an order.

ACK! I can't be bothered now!

nealloy, thanks for your order number. I got the guy to check out your order and he said your bundle is different to mine. He also said to me that - wait for it...... that particular bundle is no longer available!!! I said, does that mean "his" will be cancelled? I mean, its already been cancelled once. He wouldn't say. OMG. Like ! He basically said that he doesn't know and if it does get cancelled, they will let you know.

    Shocking.

The guy told me when I was trying to get the wireless card sorted out when he was looking at my order.

My order status online says "work in progress"

To be honest, the guy I spoke too didn't fill me with much confidence.

As I remember from my previous dell systems, it goes into production three days before delivery and production process takes about one day, sometimes couple of hours. My delivery date is 6th April so by this time 6300 will be available as it is successor for 5300 which is out from options already.

When they cancelled your orders, did they automatically transfer you to a new order?

I was in touch when they cancelled my order and they manually created the new order for me. I am wondering if this step is was did it for me. Perhaps if I was not so pro-active, I may have got the 6300!?

In my case, i had to call them. then the lady said me, let me do some changes to get the order going. once done she sent me the quote. i didn't ask for any configuration changes.

just now my sells man called me and it seemed he was bit angry with me.he said me that he will make the system delivered within2/3 days. last night i did online survey where i raised my issue and this afternoon i spoke with another senior customer care representative and explained my extreme unhappiness. thus how the delivery process speeded up. but i don't think that my stupid sales man can speed this delivery process up this much.

Cancelled my order today after a heated row with a rather mouthy Dell rep, in the end i gave up and phoned customer service as he point blank refused.
I did tell him he was wasting his and our time as we would just send it back. The response...'Thats o.k we like wasting time at Dell'

Customer service cancelled it quickly ,i just hope they dont try and take monies.

Reserved a HP DV62106ea i7 at Comet(£799), within an hour i had picked it up.
Typing on it now, looks very nice,i really like the looks.Downside is build quality isnt quite up there with the Dell but after my experience with Dell im prepared to forgive it.
Plus i can always take it back to comet if im not happy, not fanny around on the phone with Dells useless call center.

I dropped an email to the sales blokes manager saying I am not happy that I can't get the 6300.

Unfortunately, the boss' out of office reply kicked in and shortly afterwards I get the sales bloke phoning me up! I guess he must have picked up the email.

Anyway, I told him that I wasn't happy. He said I have this choice:

Cancel existing order and he would try to get tech support to add the 6300 onto a new order. No guarantee that tech support would give the ok tho. Not sure why tech are even involved. I told him to cancel as I have waited this long already so can wait a bit longer.

There service is pretty shocking. Whilst you may get the product real cheap, you pay for the lack of any customer service. This is one of the reasons I stumped a little extra for the 3 years warranty.

Will keep you posted with what happens.

maxoutput, glad you've sorted yourself out.

Its a crying shame as my daughter has a Dell inspiron(pc world purchase) which i think is a great notebook.Dell spoil the whole purchase experience so badly that they must scare a large percent of consumers into cancelling.
I was really looking forward to recieving my studio but not the replacement for my i7 1557 which was downgraded to an i5 1558 for £30 more lmao,i can now order an i7 1558 on the site for less than my original.
The rep couldnt understand my disapointment, pfffttttt useless.

Hey maxoutput can u run 3Dmarrk06 plz and post here the score. the graphics card of that machine is quite a lot better than here in ati. well, what's the Windows Experience Index score? and one more thing u could have bought it by £753 from HP directly.i spoke with them today and got offered. anyway, good luck but don't leave us. we could compare machine to machine.

NB: Has it got backlit key board or it's just fine without it.

I have just cancelled mine, after reading about the overheating and constant power cuts. Don’t want the engineer to come every month to take it apart, they never done it properly in my long experience. Don’t know what I will do next, I have my old Vostro and a year old XPS One so I don’t need to rush.

Ahh I just read this entire thread. I placed an order for an i7 Studio about 5 days ago, ETA is 01/04/2010... don't quite know what to expect.

Only issue I've had with Dell is the fact that I reserved the laptop I bought about 3 weeks ago and it got removed from my basket and they wanted me to pay an extra £700 for the i7 at the time (Taking the price to £1440). I laughed at them and waited a few weeks until the i7 model reappeared... now I'm just waiting for things to happen, or not happen. Yikes.

    dimodi, welcome to the fray.

I'm going to lodge a written complaint to Dell UK once all this is sorted out. They probably won't care but it will make me feel a lot better.

Is there a UK number that we can actually call and speak to some UK-based people? I don’t mean to offend but I think the problem with Dell lies principally in the inability of the UK support teams comprehension of the native English speakers.

What's more frustrating is their lack of vocabulary which gives the impression that they quite simply don't give two sh..ts about the consumer as they have very little to say in response. Makes me feel like I'm having a conversation with a robot or that they're simply script-reading and have little idea what they're actually saying...

I really dont think they do give two brown ones to be honest.
You can hear the commision in the sales teams voices as they try and take you roughly from behind.
Never again will i support dell by buying its product.
