Here you go. Some pics of the 1080p screen. And the 9 cell battery. The battery is big and makes the computer sit up higer in the back. The big battery is the rear feet now.

Thanks for the review. Have you had a chance to test any games using a lower resolution? ie. still keen to know how downscaling looks on 1920.

Yes old LCD screens fade. But my M170 was never as bright as my new 1555.
Here is some pics of my Mini 9 next to it. The Mini 9 is new. As you can see the Mini 9 dosent come close to the veiwing angles the of the 1555 LG 1080p.

Hey thanks crf450r Looks like a nice screen. I hear it's quite a bit brighter than a standard screen...

Are LED screens brighter? I hear somewhere that at 25% the LED screens are equal to traditional ones....

Do you find the text too small? (i'm used to WSXGA+)

Is anyone disappointed with a 16:9 screen instead of a 16:10.... I'm kinda thrown off by it still... Seems... too wide?

Thanks for posting those pictures. As far as pictures can tell, the contrast and blacks on the 1080p screen looks very good.

I had to acclimate to it. It seemed... deformed... at first, but the screen was nice and bright to make up for it.

I received mine today. It has the LG screen. It is an absolutely gorgeous laptop screen. Best laptop screen I have seen to date.

I am fairly happy with the purchase. Weight-wise I have to say that the laptop with 9 cell battery feels really heavy, but then I've never had a 9 cell battery before, so I don't have anything else to compare it with. I can just say that it is heavier than I was expecting.

Too bad that we here in germany can´t have a 1600x900 - the 1080p-screen would be to small for my eyes, I believe. :D

I've had two 16: laptops. At first it seemed strange. But after a while 16:10 laptops started looking strange.

Now I think 16:10 laptops look old fashioned. Just like 4:3 laptops.

hey ... apart from the resolution, i hope there isnt any brightness/viewing angle/clarity/sharpness difference b/w 720p, 900p, 1080p. pls correct me if i'm wrong here. in india we dont have any other option than 720p! :(

One more query, does the gpu has more load wen applications run on 1080p than 720? will it follow that performance will slightly be less in 1080p?

    thanks,
    Abhishek

1080p is sharper than 720p, no doubt. Viewing angles and contrast are also better.

Try calling Dell, they may have it anyway, like here in the Netherlands.

Well I'm just assuming, but they call the 900p Bright and the 1080p High Brightness (on the Dell Canada Site)... I wish they gave us some actual ratings on the brightness. I'm thinking the 900 and 1080 are brighter than the 720... but i'm not sure if the 1080 is brighter than the 900.....

I can't seem to connect to my Wi-Fi G network (Linksys WRT54GL) with the Intel 5300 N card. Any ideas?

Also I don't like the trackpad and its buttons. The trackpad isn't sensitive enough and the buttons don't have proper feedback. I can't tell if I have pressed them enough or not. The keyboard however is good, only some flex around the middle area.

Inside, there's no point in more than 200 nits brightness. Higher brightness is only relevant for outside use.

Brightness is nice to have, but contrast is what makes a display look good under normal conditions.

The contrast on the Samsung 768 screen is mediocre. 1080p has much higher contrast.

if you check LG site, is the only 15.6 screen they do that supports 1080p, i have also checked with a source to see if they maybe supply OEM different spec panels and it would seem they only make the 1 1080p panel at that size

i guess there are no test to prove the differences b/w different displays. no doubt the sharpness will be highest in 1080p, bcz thats pixel. But i seriously think the brightness and viewing angle etc should be same across diff displays as that is the independent of resolution.
btw any inputs on the GPU usage and resolution relationship?

    Regard,
    Abhishek

There are tests to show that the Samsung 1366x768 has bad contrast and viewing angles: http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/review-dell-studio-1555-ati-hd-4570-907/1/top5

And based on the user reports + pictures + specs it's safe to say the 1080p LG display does a lot better.

That is a problem that I will face, my Dell representative told me he will arrange for them to ring me 24hrs before delivery.... hope they do otherwise I am stuck or will have to take time off work.

Those pictures above look amazing I am glad I ordered the 1080p screen. I wonder how this screen compares to the Dell XPS 16. I was so tempted to get it for my photography editing but couldn't justify the price. I think the studio is much better bang for buck.

ok, thanks for that phil. i can read only ein bisschen german :) so i cud just infer that most ppl arent as happy wid display as wid other aspects of 1555, and its better to upgrade. have they posted any test results wid comparison of diff displays?
anycase, i talkd to the dell sales guy, he said in india we only have 720p :(...so thats it.

It's not like the 720p display is terrible. It's like the average run of the mill Acer or Asus screen.

As long as you're straight in front of it it's ok. Some calibration will make it a bit better.

And who knows they might give you a different 720p panel than the Samsung.

Mine has switched to delivery-status today (from Phase 2 to 5 in half an hour), so when it comes I will try to make some photos of the display, maybe the 720p isn´t that bad.
    Hopefully.
