Here in a few minutes I will do some comparison shoots to my old M170 xps.
-
Just found out I was not at full brightness. Was at 60 percent now it blinding. Taking pics now
-
Here are some compare shots of my 1555 vs M170
-
A few more at full brightness.
A shot of The Patriot on Blueray.
-
-
Awesome pictures. Those viewing angles look fantastic.
-
not taking anything away but isn't old LCD screen suppose to fade
On dell website it also said it includes subwoofer, anyone comfirm this? and how good is the sound quality? -
Here is some pics of my Mini 9 next to it. The Mini 9 is new. As you can see the Mini 9 dosent come close to the veiwing angles the of the 1555 LG 1080p.
-
The sound is OK. Its a step above a cell phone speaker. I use Sennheiser headphones.
-
Hey thanks crf450r Looks like a nice screen. I hear it's quite a bit brighter than a standard screen...
Are LED screens brighter? I hear somewhere that at 25% the LED screens are equal to traditional ones....
Do you find the text too small? (i'm used to WSXGA+)
Is anyone disappointed with a 16:9 screen instead of a 16:10.... I'm kinda thrown off by it still... Seems... too wide? -
Thanks for posting those pictures. As far as pictures can tell, the contrast and blacks on the 1080p screen looks very good.
-
that screen looks lovely, whats your monitor ID? am still waiting for my order
-
The LGD020B 1080p screen is getting very, very good reviews on Dutch and German forums.
-
-
I am fairly happy with the purchase. Weight-wise I have to say that the laptop with 9 cell battery feels really heavy, but then I've never had a 9 cell battery before, so I don't have anything else to compare it with. I can just say that it is heavier than I was expecting. -
A few pictures. I haven't resized them, so just linking to them without IMG tags.

Too bad that we here in germany can´t have a 1600x900 - the 1080p-screen would be to small for my eyes, I believe.
-
Now I think 16:10 laptops look old fashioned. Just like 4:3 laptops. -
hey ... apart from the resolution, i hope there isnt any brightness/viewing angle/clarity/sharpness difference b/w 720p, 900p, 1080p. pls correct me if i'm wrong here. in india we dont have any other option than 720p!
One more query, does the gpu has more load wen applications run on 1080p than 720? will it follow that performance will slightly be less in 1080p?
thanks,
Abhishek -
1080p is sharper than 720p, no doubt. Viewing angles and contrast are also better.
Try calling Dell, they may have it anyway, like here in the Netherlands. -
Well I'm just assuming, but they call the 900p Bright and the 1080p High Brightness (on the Dell Canada Site)... I wish they gave us some actual ratings on the brightness. I'm thinking the 900 and 1080 are brighter than the 720... but i'm not sure if the 1080 is brighter than the 900.....

I can't seem to connect to my Wi-Fi G network (Linksys WRT54GL) with the Intel 5300 N card. Any ideas?
Also I don't like the trackpad and its buttons. The trackpad isn't sensitive enough and the buttons don't have proper feedback. I can't tell if I have pressed them enough or not. The keyboard however is good, only some flex around the middle area. -
Brightness is nice to have, but contrast is what makes a display look good under normal conditions.
The contrast on the Samsung 768 screen is mediocre. 1080p has much higher contrast. -
this has to be the 1080p screen

What's you source Mike?
-
if you check LG site, is the only 15.6 screen they do that supports 1080p, i have also checked with a source to see if they maybe supply OEM different spec panels and it would seem they only make the 1 1080p panel at that size
-
Right, here it is: http://www.lgdisplay.com/homeContain/jsp/eng/prd/prd301_j_e.jsp
Notebookjournal is going to measure this screen when they get it. -
http://www.lgdisplay.com/homeContain/jsp/eng/prd/prd300_j_e.jsp LP156WF1
this is the one -
i guess there are no test to prove the differences b/w different displays. no doubt the sharpness will be highest in 1080p, bcz thats pixel. But i seriously think the brightness and viewing angle etc should be same across diff displays as that is the independent of resolution.
btw any inputs on the GPU usage and resolution relationship?
Regard,
Abhishek -
And based on the user reports + pictures + specs it's safe to say the 1080p LG display does a lot better. -
whooo
my order just jumped from pre-production to delivery, coming from china -
Some more photos of the screen playing 1080P sample video...on battery power, about half the brightness setting, no flash, dark room.
-
Those pictures above look amazing I am glad I ordered the 1080p screen. I wonder how this screen compares to the Dell XPS 16. I was so tempted to get it for my photography editing but couldn't justify the price. I think the studio is much better bang for buck. -
ok, thanks for that phil. i can read only ein bisschen german
so i cud just infer that most ppl arent as happy wid display as wid other aspects of 1555, and its better to upgrade. have they posted any test results wid comparison of diff displays?
anycase, i talkd to the dell sales guy, he said in india we only have 720p...so thats it.
-
It's not like the 720p display is terrible. It's like the average run of the mill Acer or Asus screen.
As long as you're straight in front of it it's ok. Some calibration will make it a bit better.
And who knows they might give you a different 720p panel than the Samsung. -
Mine has switched to delivery-status today (from Phase 2 to 5 in half an hour), so when it comes I will try to make some photos of the display, maybe the 720p isn´t that bad.
Hopefully. -
jarod...alles gute
i hope the same of 720p, but considering the TrueLife i feel that it shd be better than peers.
those pics above are really awesome! 1080 effect.. -
Been busy installing programs and such havnt had much time to test things, i did test out batttlefield 2 though, 2nd highest res and everything on high no AA though and it ran perfectly no slow down at all.
Going to be trying out Unreal Tournament 3 and Crysis, going to be getting Demigod soon as well so will see how RTS games run on this laptop to.
And too confirm as well the card is 128bit
-
Here are some Images from the Dark Knight, camera really dosnt do it justice though just using the camera on my phone.
-
-
Ah well... bus width 128bit.
Wasn´t that a thing everyone was asking about?
@abhi.danej: danke schoen. ;-)
At the moment I am waiting for a status about my UPS-number Dell gave me.
Until now it´s not recognized. -
-
Order Date was May 29th, Phase 1 started June 1st, Pre-production was June 2nd - June 10th.
And then it switched to Phase 4, 10 minutes later Phase 5. -
-
My order was confirmed on jun3.. it was in phase 2 till yesterday.. and expected delivery date was jun 16..
Today it switched to Phase 3 (Manufacturing build complete) and delivery date has been delayed to JUN 18.. any idea why..?.
will it be so long before i get the delivery ??
anyone from india got early delivery ?? -
Is it just me or are there zero indicators for wifi, HDD activity, caps lock, num lock, etc? Or am I just not seeing them?
-
there are no led indicators in dell 1555
-
at the time of building, my est. date was June 15th.
when the build was over it ways 17th June...
I hope we get it soon.........
but that defenitly is not the case of playing games, vidoes etc.... -
