Why haven't they made P series with 6MB cache or more... would 3MB extra cache make that much extra power consumption?
Still we can't complain either. 3MB is more than enough for today's applications. :D

The 2.53GHz P9500 and 2.66GHz P9600 both have 6mb of L2 cache. The P8700 and P9500 are identical, except the P8700 only has half the L2 cache.

I'm still a bit confused about the video card situation. So is there any significant difference between the two cards besides memory? I don't want to spend another $75 for an unnoticeable/minimal difference in performance.

    Guys

Really would appreciate some advice. In UK we only have choice of 1366 res or 1920 at this stage for the Studio 1555. I went for 1366 instead of 1920 as I was worried that 1920 was overkill for the monitor size and because I wanted to avoid scaling issues. Eg. assumed over time 4570 would only be able to run many games at 1024 or 1366 and was concerned about downscaling 1920.

Does anyone have the 1920 res and can comment on on increasing text sizes and quality of games graphics when needing to downscale?

Also concerned with what I've now been hearing about potential poor quality 1366 panel. Keen to get answers on above questions as may be worth just sending back when arrives and getting 1920 res or holding on for 1600 res to come out (?).

    Any comments appreciated! :)

Ill be getting the laptop later on today, so ill be able to tell you how the screen fairs for games and also how the text is.

I contact dell US and they said me that the hd4570 uses DDR2 Vram not GDDR3, I argue that because in the setup guide appear GDDR3 256MB/512MB, but they said that was a confusion ... so, who has the last word in this ...

I find that hard to believe based on the performance we are getting with the 4570. The performance matches notebookcheck's GDDR3 4570 and ingame performance is definitely higher than a card with DDR2.

    my spec that order

Felipe, can you run a couple of benchmarks when you receive your studio like 3DMark, so we can compare it to the 512mb version?

Ok, but ny specs are the basically the same likes globaltrasher, and he did some tests, but when the laptop arrives i will bench some games to see the difference in gaming.

    for the discussion

in notebookcheck appear a bench for a acer with hd4570 with 512MB DDR2 8.582.0.0 and the 3dmark05 was 5675 and 3dmark06 2654 points, very far from 7962 in 3dmark 05 and 3747 in 3dmark 06 for studio 15 hd4570 256mb (the difference will be also the cpu but 2400 point for cpu¿?) so ... i suppose that the difference in 3dmark06 between Studio 15 256mb/512mb, will be 200 points for cpu (t9550 over p8600), and theother points for the amount o vram, but not the type, because that difference will be score much more.

If somebody has a t9550 and hd4570 256mb could be the best evidence of this hypothesis.

    Greetings ... :)

PD: Sorry for my english ... im from Chile.

Thanks for those benchmarks, Felipe. I didn't see those earlier. Hmm...so the difference does seem to be the CPU then.

Someone on Youtube posted a 4250 3dMark06 score for his Studio 1555 with 512MB 4570.

Must be DDR3 if you ask me.

With a score that high I imagine it would have to be GDDR3 as well as 128-bit. I dont see the score getting that high without it. The CPU speed has little effect when it comes to 3d-mark.

Judging from those scores, seems both versions(256mb and 512mb) are GDDR3 no?

Then again, if one version was GDDR3 while the other was DDR2, it'd justify a price jump between both as the extra VRAM doesn't really help all that much assuming they were both the same memory types.

Notebookjournal said the 256MB is DDR2, 512 is DDR3. But they got their information from Dell so it could be wrong too.

Hmmm well judging from the scores the 256mb got, they look pretty close to that HD4570 with GDDR3. Then again, the CPU is different, but idk if that'd be enough to warrant such a big leap. Maybe try Vantage instead of 3mark06?

Random question: Can anyone confirm if the HD4570 is the 128bit version? I've looked around but I've yet tos ee any confirmation nor denial if its the 64bit or 128bit version

That'll be me, but Dell is really confusing me on the 4570. All I can show is ingame performance, and I think that would be a better indicator of real world performance than specs on a sheet paper. Would be nice to know what I got though.

    Somebody put here a score of 1150 on 3dmark vantage with a hd4570 256mb

On notebookcheck somebody put the next result for vantage
Model CPU Memory Core / Memory GPU Memory Value
    P8600 2048 MB 680 / 800MHz GDDR3 - 128 Bit 1160

So it seems the only difference is the amount of vram and definitely is gddr3

Also in notebookcheck the hd3650 (128bit) scores 855 in vantage:
Model CPU Memory Core / Memory GPU Memory Value
    T9400 600/700MHz 256MB GDDR3 7.14.10.0590 855

For the information that i search, its look the hd4570 of the studio 15 have a greater performance in tests, and its over a hd3650 in vantage, so its possibly that both cards (256mb/512mb) had 128 bit and gddr3

But the important part is tha i think is the benchs in games, and there the performance are great , between 9600m gs and 9600m gt, so if you buy the studio i think you dont regret.

And hd4570 have other qualities instead the performance in game, like low consumption (17watt to 20watt), UVD 2 (fantastic for see hd movies in your lcd) and many others. So its worth every dollar.

Yeah I posted up the GPU-Z earlier in this thread. It doesnt do a good job showing what the 4570 is so I doubt its accuracy at the moment.

Have finally got my Internet receipt number from Dell after reordering my system yesterday. I was getting quite worried that something had gone wrong as it's taken 24hours for this email to come through.

I'm just wondering whether it's worth calling Dell to clarify that my 512mb HD 4570 will be 128bit, or if this would just confuse the CSR. Any thoughts anyone?

The 1080p screen is amazing viewing angles are very good straight on the screen is clear and crisp best screen ive seen for a laptop for sometime. The viewing angles are great looking at it directly from the edge of the screen there is a slight colouring effect but nothing worth thinking about it it is very very minor.
Tested it out with a blu ray film and it looks stunning im very impressed with it.
Some people have been saying about the text being small, it is fairly small but when your using it the text is fine.

From what ive heard about the 720p screen im glad i went with this one it is far better quality.

Download GPUZ, that will give you your cards info. Not sure if it correctly recognises the 4570 yet though.

I dont have Vista, but I expect it will be the same as XP, for the monitor, go into device manager, then monitors, click the details tab and you should see the monitors details

Does anyone have any comparisons between the 720, 900 and 1080p screens?

I'm probably gonna get one of these, but I'm using a WSXGA+ screen at the moment... which is somewhere between the 900 and 1080p... just want to know which is closer.

I have the 900p screen and it is excellent. It is an AUO panel. Very bright, has great angles and colors. I saw the 1555 with 720p at Best Buy and the screen quality was much worse. Haven't seen the 1080p yet.
