Argh! It's been 9 days and it's still in production. Called a rep and he said they can only estimate the delivery date of June 4. I know it can come anytime before that, but what are the odds of it shipping out like by next week?

Considering I got my laptop on May 13th and my estimated delivery date was May 26th, the chances of it shipping out next week might be good.

I'm about to do the clean install process. One question, where can I find the Roxio software that came pre-installed on my laptop? I did not get a Roxio CD, just those for the BD-Player software, Norton and the Dell webcam applications. I didn't see the Roxio software on the Dell website either. Probably not critical, but thought I'd ask.

Contact Dell and have them send you the Roxio disk. It should have come with your system.

Does the 1555 come with a remote? Or would Dell send it later like they did with the 1535/1537s?

Or... does Dell even support a remote with the new 1555 models?

Nice. Thanks for the uploads. I really want to see how the 720p resolution compares to 1080p. Is there that much of a difference?

Definitely, a difference between 720p and 1080p as well. Maybe incorporate that in a review.

Ordered a Studio 1555 last night. Estimated delivery date 6/15 :/
Hope it doesn't actually take this long, waiting a month for a notebook seems kind of ridiculous.

Hi, I just received the 1555 a few days ago, this is my first laptop, I got the 720p and think its awesome. I'm not into gaming or bluray so this works great for me. The first thing I said to myself was this HD display looks awesome to me, the 2nd thing was love the backlit keyboard.

Since I have always been an XP user, I opted for Vista with Downgrade to XP Professional. I love XP and has always worked for me, why changed a good thing? In anycase I can always switch to vista if need be with the disc.

Since its my first laptop, I can't get use to using a touchpad, you should see my reaching over for a mouse that isn't there. lol

Everthing works great, set up the wireless home network within 30 mins.

My only issue is since I've never had a lappy before is the 1555 feels heavy and wide hence the bulkiness feel, moving from room to room and outside is sorta heavy lugging it around maybe I need to just get use to it. I'm sorta thinking of returning it for the studio 13, I really love the backlit keys and I know the 13 has that, I guess I would lose my XP Professional and would be forced with Vista. Still not sure what I want to do. I posted a note over in the Studio 13 forum to see if that notebook is lighter in weight than the 1555 but not many hae responded. My box for the 1555 says it weighed 10 lbs, so I figure the 1555 probably weighs about 6-8 lbs, I put it on a scale and it says 6.8 lbs but that could on the lighter side.

That is really the only issue I have, otherwide I like the 1555 alot. Do I have 21 days from the ship date or order date on my packing slip to decide if I want to send back and order the studio 13? Dells website say 21 days from the packing slip date but I dont see a packingslip date only a ship date and order date.

I also wanted to mention that the HD 720p has alot of options for display res. I have the optional ATI Radeon 4570 card (even though I'm not into gaming I thought it would be better for streaming video or watching standard DVD's I probably wasted my money but that is what I ordered, again I don' know much about laptops so I just ordered the optional vid card)

I have my 1555 with 720p set on 1360 x 768, text is somewhat tiny but it looks great to me. Here are the other options I have listed to use

    1360 x 768
    1280 x 768
    1280 x 720
    1024 x 768
    1024 x 600
    800 x 600

....typing this in the dark with backlite keys is just awesome, I love how you can turn down the brightness on the backlite keys to high or low, very cool feature that I really love. Dell should offer this feature on all laptops as an option...

So you think it's too heavy, huh? I'm taking the 1555 to my University, so I dunno if it'll be that bad. I know someone who takes a 17" to the University...

It's my first laptop and really have nothing to compare it against so yeah I consider it sorta heavy. I've felt the ones in the store and stuff but later you just forget what it felt like. That's why I posted a question about how much less the weight would be on a studio 13, dell's site I think say there about 1lb diff in weight so I don't know if that justifies me sending this one back for that one. I'd need to decide soon.

Good question. I have also asked myself this question. I believe that 1555 is not delivered with a remote. Dell china sales people were not sure about it last month and to be honest I didn't follow up on this topic.

Yikes, 6.8 lbs on the scale? Is that with the 6 cell or 9 cell battery? Dell lists the starting weight for this notebook at 5.54 lbs with the 6 cell and integrated graphics. I can't imagine the ati card weights a whole pound :D

6- 8 Pounds? That has to be with a 9 cell. Mine only weighs about 5lbs with a 6 cell and it feels very light.

I have a 9cell, so its a big heavy. I may invest in a knockoff 6 cell later.

Anyone who is considering a 1555...GET A BACKLIT KEYBOARD. I was on the fence about it before, but man is it one of my favourite aspects of the laptop.

One side of my keyboard is hot and one is cold, and my touchpad is hot at times. That's the main issues I've had. The F6 button is a bit looser than the rest, and sometimes a ? will type as an acented e...which is strange.

Other than that I find the battery life with a 9 cell to be good, and the screen and performance to be great. Overall I'm very happy with it.

I just weighed again and I was off about 1lb, according to my scale and I tested it 3 X in a row, it comes to about 5.6lbs. To me it feels heavier than that. I think too since it's my first laptop I really didn't know what to expect. I just thought it would feel lighter than it does. I have the 6 cell batt.

I agree with the other poster, the backlit keyboard is awesome and my favorite part about it. I also agree it gets warmer more on one side than the other but it's not that bad, I've had it on my lap for hours tonight and no problem, every now and then I can feel the air fan kick in and blowing warm air out the back vent on the left side on my leg. There is no noise at all, it's super quiet.

So far everything works great and the new audio sounds pretty darn good to me. I'm still debating if I want to return it for the studio 13 or just keep this 1555. As of now I'm leaning toward keeping it since I'm almost falling in love with it except for the weight and moving it from room to room.

I have a question, not sure really where to post it. When I go to Dell's website for the driver and downloads for my service tag #, it show like over 20 different things there to download for my specific model and service tag. How do I know if I already have this loaded (regarding versions and date issued) for instance there one for my Intel 5100 card that says I can download it, the release date is newer on dell's website than the release date on the actual wifi card on my laptop so does that mean I should update it or leave it.

Also there is another one for the video card Radeon HD 4570 that says on the Dell downloads does that mean I need to download that update or did my new 1555 already have that update since they just shipped it to me recently so it would have the latest update already right? I'm confused about if I need to update anything or not.

Sorry to read that... It took almost 3 weeks for me, but it was due to the release of new SW versions.

Hey, btw do you know where they produce the lappies in Europe and Americas?

5.6 lbs feels very light to me... but I originally owned a Dell Inspiron 9100. Look it up. The damn thing weighs like 13 lbs with the adapter (you could kill people with that adapter. It's like some medieval flail).

About the updates, a few of the updates will double check to see if you already have the current versions installed. Personally, I would update if the current version is older than on the website.

You can always buy a backlit keyboard from a third party parts reseller and install it yourself. I did that recently with my 1535, it's a pretty simple process.

I think China. HP does the same actually. They build from Kunshan. I'm not sure about Dell though, it's the first time I am ordering from them.

    On another note:

Can someone still try to open up their 1555 to see if a fingerprint reader is a possible self add-on? That would be sweet.

Dell India made some changes at their 1555's basic configuration.
    - There is no integrated graphics option.
    - You cannot choose a ram below 4gb.
Is this is same in the case of other countries...?

    Hey Guys,

Can anyone tell me what the speaker (sound) quality of the Studio 1555 is like? How does it compare to the Altec Lansing (HP and Asus) or Kardon Harmon (Toshiba) speakers?

I am used to the Altec Lansing speakers from HP and the sound quality is just fantastic. No desktop speakers have to be used.

I can only find 1 youtube clip of this laptop but the sound test was not detailed enough.

    Any Suggestions?

    Thanks :)

is it possible to show us what it's like when surfing the web with this resolution? and you can probably simulate the 900p resolution too so if you can record something with your camera zoomed to the screen to show us the difference between each resolution it would be really great (720p, 900p, 1080p)!

    thank you a lot!!

Quality of the speakers (the default ones) are fine. I would not consider them to be the best, but I do not know how they compare to HP, Asus, or Toshiba.

I contacted Dell and, according to the CSR I spoke to, the Roxio software was a free addition and not something I specifically bought. He also said that the software is not avilable on CD but should be available under the system restore option. I told him that didn't really help me because I'd done a clean install. He suggested I try some other manufacturer or contact Roxio to purchase the CD. Then he told me they had a special going for thumbdrives. Great!

By the way, can somebody let me know exactly what Roxio program is installed. I'm guessing it's a "lite" version of one of the more powerful programs. Also, I haven't explored the other programs that come with Vista, but I assume there are some basic programs included that allow me to burn things to CD/DVD (maybe Windows Movie Maker)?

I second this request. Would really help out potential buyers if they could see the differences in a video review. All the reviewer need do is change the desktop resolution and then record/screencap the result. Who here has a 1080p system? :)

Don't sweat it, Roxio is a dinosaur anyway. Download InfraRecorder from infrarecorder.org for free. It's super easy to use and straight forward.

The CSR you spoke to is either lazy, or an idiot. My Studio 15 came with a separate CD to install the Roxio software. If another call to Dell doesn't fix it, PM me an address to mail to, and I'll personally send you my Roxio disk. I never ended up reinstalling it anyway. ;)
To find out if the fingerprint reader is an option, you would have to remove the palmrest. If you follow Dell's instructions from their service manual, then your warranty should be just fine.

You could probably force it in there, but the 1555 is slightly longer than a regular 15.4 inch laptop. My 15.4 backpack can fit my laptop but I do have to force the laptop in a little.

I called Dell today and they said my order is in a "complex production." They couldn't say anymore. Couldn't promise any set shipping date, or the exact status of my build so far... argh! XD

Yeah I feel ya BlackHawk, the wait is killing me, but I'm sure once it gets here it'll have been worth it. June 16th seems forever away :/
