10.1 drivers are incopatible with mobility graphics at this time , no matter if you try this patch with mobility modder. ( Autors of program solving issue right now ). But anyway if you install drivers (official) you must first apling patch with modder or it wont work
-
i know the 10.1 driver tat from ATI website cannot be used in laptops, but dell just released new ATI driver for studio 1558 but not for studio 1555
since both laptops' graphic card are same, can i use studio 1558 ATI driver? -

If you need a hand, you can PM here or hit me up on AIM (daroga28) if I'm around I'll try to give you a hand!

This is a weird question. I've got my Studio 1555 (came on Thursday and it's great!!) with the ATI 512 MB 4570. Now when I was peaking in the ATI settings and info, it looked like it was reporting over 2 GB of ram, which seemed odd. And then going to Can You Run It, when it analyzes the system it also reports 2.2GB of video RAM. Anyone know what's going on with that? It doesn't look like its grabbing any system RAM but I would like to stop it if it is.
Running Windows 7 Pro (fresh install) with the latest ATI drivers, mobility modded. -
-
One more question, previously, I could see the webcam in the notification area icons but now I can't although the webcam driver is installed. Do you know what I need to do?
Thank you -
My old Compaq computer had a program that would allow you to recalibrate your battery meter in the system tray. Is there a comparable program for the Dell 1555? If not how do some of you recalibrate your system tray icon for accuracy?
Thanks. -
My space bar is starting to squeak a little bit, which seems to not be a completely uncommon problem. Is there a fix for that out there? Will Dell to anything to help?
EDIT: The answer is, yes. They're sending a replacement keyboard. -
I wonder if everyone is generally ok with 1555? I have just ordered the refurb for $775 with practically everything you can think of.. I could not justify the need to get i7..

Mine still working like new

I received my laptop around a month ago. For the three and a half months or so it was running fine; however, the last 3 or 4 days have been hell. I've been trying to figure out why the laptop has been blue screening for so long now it feels like a job. The blue screen and latter error report offer no information as to why the dump is occurring. I called Dell and ended up getting some Indian tech who couldn't even speak English........ (Dot) I decided to reformat and within an hour upon reformatting it occurred again. I've heard bad things about Dell, but decided to go ahead and purchase this laptop because it was such a deal. I will be sure to never purchase any of there merchandise again.
The one thing that I actually did understand from the DOT was that my warranty has expired. Such a coincidence that the problems start occurring shortly thereafter. I tested the ram for hours without an error so, I've checked that off a list of my possible hardware issues. If someone else has run into a problem similar to this and has found a way to fix it, I would be greatly appreciative -
i would check temperatures, if your laptop is a bit older it might clogged the vents or the vent itself isnt working, you can check it with everest ( the best, will show you all your temps ) or coretemp or many others
-
Hey, just a quick note others might find useful.
I got my replacement keyboard yesterday (squeak free!) and while I was installing it, I took the opportunity to put a 3 or 4 1"x1" pieces of thin foam inbetween the keyboard and the chassy. Nothing huge to really insulate and cause heat buildup, but enough to give the keyboard a little bit of a more solid foundation.
Now the flex to the keyboard is completely gone, and while I didn't really notice a problem before, it's tremendously more comfortable to type on now than it had been.
Even if you're not looking to replace the keyboard, it takes about 3 minutes to get under neath there and slip a few supports in. I think it's well worth it! -
my studio 1555 gpu temperature very high for most recent games
even for low requirement games like torchlight, the gpu temperature can rise to 91C
is it normal? do i need to call dell technician come & check? -
I think is normal. And must say that if the game using latest effects thats doesnt mean that heat GPU higher than some old "DX7 title"... GPU heat is also connected to ammount FPS your GPU produces. So for example if i play some DX8-10 game arround 20-30FPS heat will be lesser or same in the old game (DX7-8) with 60+FPS... but this isnt so easy as i demonstrated, but in many cases applies.

BIOS went back to A08 on dell's website, I guess that confirms A09 was buggy.

Hey
I own a Studio 1555. Its performance is great when I'm inside Windows, but there's something that sometimes pisses me off, the booting time. It boots Windows normal, then when it's time to load the session and the stuff (antivir, tuneup, and only the drivers utilities) it takes so long to be ready. The specs on next
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits, Intel C2D P8700 @ 2.53GHz, 4Gb RAM DDR2 @800Mhz, ATI Radeon HD4570 512Mb, 250Gb Samsung Hard Disk @5400RPM
I don't see any problem with the config, the HD is not fragmented and it doesn't have problems, I've cleaned the registry, Windows isn't even loading junk services. It gets me a bit angry because another PC running Win7 Ultimate 32bits (Athlon X2 4200+ @2,2Ghz , 2Gb RAM DDR2 667Mhz, Hitachi HD @7200RPM and a Geforce 7600GT) is able to boot in less time.
I've tried a lot of things and I don't see what the problem is and I'm out of ideas. If anyone can suggest something else to do that could fix it, I would appreciate it.
Another thing I've not tried is to do a clean install of Win7, I just uninstalled the junk software.
Thanks for help guys -
How long are you talking, exactly? Mine goes from power button to a web browser in a bit less than 50 seconds, and my processor is slower than yours. I use Perfectdisk which optimizes the boot files, and am only loading MSE antivirus and drivers at startup. Do you have FastAcess? That can slow you down quite a bit.
-
Exactly, it takes sometimes 2 minutes from power button to Google Chrome, sometimes between 2 and 3 minutes. And not, I'm not using FastAccess.
Maybe it's not that much, but it's to me somehow. And when you compare... It left a lot to wish xP -
Odd, why would yours take two to three times as long as mine, if its faster, and has nearly identical startup stuff (antivirus and drivers)? I really can't think of much, since you already said you removed all the crap and defragged. Maybe run Ccleaner, both the cleanup and the registry cleaner part of it. Get a third party defragmenter, ditch the Windows one. Get something that optimizes file placement instead of just defragments.
-
Thanks tipoo. I'll take that in mind. I'm gonna run the PerfectDisk you talk about and maybe CCleaner. Do you know TuneUp Utilities? That's the software I'm running to optimize my laptop. I guess if this cannot fix it, I will do a clean win install. But, I don't have any idea why it's happening, everything seems to be fine.
Thanks -
I havn't heard of Tuneup utilities, but I find that CCleaner + a good defrag is all I need to keep in tiptop performance. Alot of the time those system tuning utilities can actually damage performance, but I cannot speak for that specific one.
Good luck. -
Going for the CCleaner, dunno what else to do. Any more suggestions? Calling Dell support... Mhh I don't like that x) I'll try on my own first.
Thanks. Cya -
Use perfectdisk to defragment even though its not fragmented, like I said, it does more than just that. it will optimize boot file placement so that they are at the fastest parts of the hard drive, and also sequenced in the order they are accessed at startup.
-
-
Inside windows is fine, offline is for the pagefile and hibernate file. You may want to do those too.
-
So long. -
Well. After defrag using PerfectDisk, it performs the same on startup. Ran CCleaner without success. I realized about something, I ran HD tune, went to the Health tab to check the S.M.A.R.T. status and what a surprise, I found a warning at (0B) Calibration Retry Count, I'm not sure about it and whether it's a problem. Take a see

Looking for some info about that I found this...
Recalibration Retries
This attribute indicates the number of times recalibration was requested (under the condition that the first attempt was unsuccessful). A decrease of this attribute value is a sign of problems in the hard disk mechanical subsystem.
So, is this my problem, what do you think guys?
Thanks for answers -
That doesn't sound good...I'd back up my data and contact Dell customer support if I were in the same situation.
Good luck. -
Hello
I was running the PSA Diagnostics and it found an error, Code 2000 - 0212 (CMOS failed the pattern test). Does anyone know about it? -
hi
i sent my laptop out to dell a month ago to get the dvd player fixed and now the screen is screwed up. There are thin lines and rectangles where everything is shifted over and scrambled. does anybody have the same problem or a solution?
this happens the most when the computer is getting out of sleep or booting up -
Hi
anyone know why when my laptop is on battery power it makes some funny noises? i cant describe the noises, just sounds a bit odd, sounds like the insides a working a bit harder
my old toshiba laptop did this as well -
-
Thats 1920x1080. -

-
sony usually has 900p, but what manufacturers do is just throw terms like HD resolution, which usualy ends up being 720p - 1377x768 (HD ready) or in some case 900p-1600x900

Hi guys,
Regarding the HDMI connection, I sometimes have some problems when I unplug the cable. I need to close/open the lid in order to get my desktop back.
Anyone with the same issue?
PS: Happy New Year of the Tiger! -
havent noticed. I usualy just just switch off duplicate/extend prior to unplugging the cable. Its quick `n`easy on W7.
-
Catalyst control center is supposed to do the job, but it leaves a black screen after the HDMI cable is unplugged.
I didn't know about F3. It exists in Vista too apparently but in stock Dell allocates the F1 key without [Fn]. I tried it after unplugging the cable and it did the trick!
Thanks a lot. -
hi guys, my friend offered me one of these for $300. its in good condition.
couple of questions, can the h4570 game? i mean im not expecting bf2bc2 at high details.
can the gpu, cpu, ram be overclocked? -
The GPU can be overclocked. The CPU & RAM cannot be. -
Wes of StarArmy Notebook Consultant
From personal experience: Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2 Episode 2 run like a champ on there. Left 4 Dead is fine but Left 4 Dead 2 is choppy at times. Star Trek Online has framerates in the 20s but is perfectly playable. That's a real deal you got there, I paid over 4 times that for mine back in October (build in sig).
-
Can anyone give me some info on how to overclock the 4570? I tried searching but didn't really find a straight answer I could get working. Thanks in advance.

Hi!
I noticed that copying DVD data files to my HDD is kind of slow (max 9MB/s with a 16x Kodak DVD+R).
My DVD drive is "HL-DT-ST super multi DVD+-RW GA10N (SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 2MB Cache)", HW ID showing A105 firmware, with driver 6.0.6001.18000 6/21/2006 from microsoft (generic driver from Vista I guess). It seems attached to ATA Channel 1 (using Ultra DMA Mode 6)
If it is 8x drive therefore I should read as fast as 10.8MB/s right?
However, note that when I burn DVDs it's 11MB/s. It's weird that reading is slower than writing
I'm wondering whether you also have such speed problem and how to fix it.
thanks. -
once again my slot load dvd rw bricked!!! jst 1 scratchd disc in drive and my drive brickd! ?
M gonna sue Dell for this...This is 3rd time now in a period of 4 months
Can they replace my slot load drive with tray one? There is provision of choosing normal drive on dell studio 15 on their website! -
Hi all,
I've been searching on a few sites but can't find out if the hard disk in my laptop is a SATA, Or a SATA II?
I want to upgrade my 250gb 5400rpm to a 500gb 7200rpm(Decided may as well go for the extra rpm and cache) but the new hard disk is Sata II
My laptop specs are in my sig, Just in case that matters. -
It doesnt matter, same type of connection.
Mine is Toshiba, SATA II. -
Just wanted to make sure before spending 90-100 -
Anyone else having issues upgrading to Catalyst 10.1 or 10.2? I'm stuck at a measly 800x600 because I can't get any drivers to load! =(
