very happy with my new 1505 i love it!!
-
I've had my Dell for 2 years with no trouble, except...
-1 screw fell out of the bottom of the case while I was using it at the office.
-The bloatware that comes preinstalled from the factory is nothing short of ridiculous.
This machine basically sits on my desk at the office on top of a Targus laptop stand... and I don't pound on the keyboard. So, the screw falling out of the bottom was quite the surprise.
I'd like to see the manufacturers a little less quick to jump on the new OS bandwagon when a new one comes out. At this stage, I believe it should still be an option to have a machine factory loaded with WinXP... as not everyone wants to become yet another Microsoft Vista "beta tester".
I suppose the bottom line is the answer to this question... would I consider purchasing another Dell? Yes. -
No back up cd, had a hard time with customer support phone put down by dell on more than one i can count
-
So far yes, use them both at work and home, had more problems with IBM's at work.
Just recievied my new rig a couple of days ago...seems to be very good build quality.
I would have to agree with other posts, Vista is not ready yet, did not work correctly out of the box and there are some driver issues depending on what you are using it for (toshiba office print drivers not compatible). I am in the I.T. field so no problem setting it up to dual boot Vista/XP.
Dead Pixel near the center of the screen, dell had no problem sending out a tech with a replacement. -
So far I'm quite pleased with my XPS. It's fairly quiet, and it cost less than anything else that was even close spec-wise. The purchase was easy (I actually like Dell's online ordering site), though I'm not 100% with Vista. The OS itself is ok, and I don't begrudge Dell for installing it, but it pisses me off that Nvidia still hasn't added decent driver support so that I can play games and videos as well as I could under XP on my ASUS.
-
Satisfied.
-
My experience has been okay. Both my Dell systems are still functioning well, even my 7+ year desktop. On the other hand, I'm disappointed by the build quality of my Inspiron 8600. But I'm satisfied enough with Dell's to strongly consider a latitude for my next laptop.

My experience with Dell has been pretty good. The build of my 6000 isn't the best. But it has endured well over a year of service in a tough environment. I have had a power adapter fall apart, a key break off of my keyboard and a motherboard failure. But I wasn't down for long. Dell Business onsite had my back each time. My worse gripe so far is with my replacement adapter where Dell sent me a refurb one that didn't have the rubber thing that wraps around the cord when you wrap it up and pack it.
-
Product: pretty crappy, battery is pretty much gone after 8 months, I get around an hour of life...I'm planning on calling up dell to ***** about this soon to try to get a new one, but I am predicting failure.
Technical support: they know how to evaluate the problem, last one annoyed me a bit.
Getting stuff fixed: I have an onsite warrenty and it is amazing. I call them up complain they ship the piece to a guy and within the next day or two he sets up an appoitment for the earliest of my convience. takes him like 3 days to get here and fix stuff from when I complain -
yep, im satisfied with my dell but not fully satisfied, i just have a skip sound when im mixing, but besides that my dell ownz

Service: Not bad, except when you get the stingy CSR's
Warranty: On-site owns!

We don't need two of these threads so I merged them.

Uh this thread popped up on the front page saying Metamorphical posted today... dunno what's up with that...
Anyways, I said I'm pretty happy but have some regrets, but those aren't Dell's fault. Just kind of some little pet peeves.
- A day after I got it I was browsing around here and it kind of just struck me... the Latitudes >>> Inspirons. I was thinking of returning my E1505 and getting a D630 or something for the higher build quality and overall good-liness, but I need a laptop this summer so I didn't. I'm not unhappy with my laptop but I just think a Latitude might be a better one for me.
- I got a 7300 GFX (N series) instead of an X1400, and Beryl (Linux window manager) is giving me a black window bug (it's documented for nVidia cards only). I originally got the 7300 for Linux compatibility and better OpenGL performance, but now I'm thinking I should have just gone for the overall better-performing card (X1400)... but that's probably not a problem for anyone else either.
- I got a T7200 processor, and I'm not using any of it, and it's probably eating away at my battery life... but maybe I'll use more of it in the future. Yeah, right.
Pretty much all of these are just my own problems and not problems with Dell/the laptop... -
Already purchased 2 notebooks from Dell in the last 4 years. Support (at least in India) is fantastic. They call up at least once in 10 days to check whether everything is ok with my new D630. I am now looking for a Notebook for my wife. It has to be Dell. Can't think of anything else.
-
I am very pleased with both my laptops. They fit the purposes I bought them for exactly, and I will buy the updated models of them when I next come to get a new laptop (though that won't be for a while)
-
I am COMPLETELY satisfied with my Dell Inspiron 9300. It is two years and 3 months young.
I just want to share my Dell support experience with you all:
About a year ago I got my very own, and very first, Dell Vertical Line. Ten months later, I had about 30 lines when I heard that Dell was doing replacements after listening to all the customers on the DVL website. I sent them a note, and I asked them if they can do the replacement in Saudi Arabia (I bought the laptop in the US). A few weeks later someone from Ireland contacted the Saudi agency that handles Dell. They contacted me and asked me the part number of my WUXGA LCD. A week later they received the LCD from Ireland in Riyadh and immediately shipped it to my city on the Eastern coast. I went and got it replaced today, all free of charge. Note that I only had a one year warranty and Dell was under NO obligation to do this replacement. They could have even charged me a nominal fee. I have been a Dell customer for many, many years so I do appreciate the fact that my loyalty didn't go unrewarded.
This is a fine example of customer service and global logistics working hand in hand to produce ultimate user satisfaction.
Bravo Dell! -
Lovin my D630! great machine at an unbelievable price
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Hmm... I've owned two Dell laptops since 1999 - a Latitude CpT C and an Inspiron 500m (Stats below). Both had harddrive failures in their 2nd or 3rd years and the CpT broke a hinge in its 7th year.
Nonetheless, I'm completely satisfied with my dell notebooks; eight and four years down the road both work fine. The CpT even loads XP without a complaint - I can't say I'm not impressed.
I hope my D830 lives up to the expectations set by its predecessors! -
I think the most ridiculous part about my story this is that the more I wrote, the more I realized that there were other annoying little things that pissed me off about Dell. That being said, keep in mind that there is a GOOD amount that I did not talk about here... if that can be believed.
Here is my story... directly from my blog at www.bulgariasia.blogspot.com/
It is only my opinions, mind you... but I've had it with Dell. -
As of right now I am furious over it. My 1520 came in dead on arrival. Atleast dell ius sending me a brand new one as a repalcement.
-
D630 -- Nope, not satisfied at all.. for explanation, look thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=154939
-
other than taking a very long time to get here (3-4 weeks) everything has been great
-
I have a 1720 so yes, but I HATE the touchpad. it's so freakin annoying and I cant stand its responsiveness. time to get a mouse.

The only thing i regret is that i went with a 6 cell battery and not the 9 cell. Oh well. My screen is really grainy and there is some light leakage but it really doesn't bother me. -
Appaling!
cheap rubbish -
1)you get what you pay for, and in this case a bag full of extra's that conflict with aevrything, and are almost impossible to remove ie McAFFEE
2) USELESS support- based in india where they dont understand you, and English isnt their first language, on realy cheap telephone lines, so neither of you can clearly hear (let alone understand) the other party.
3) Wirelss conflicts and faills weekly
Utter junk ! i dont know about other laptops at the same "bargain price" but what you pay for these days is support - we are not all programmers (!) and in the case of DELL that is NIL.
I would never buy DELL ever again- and Im not alone, many friends also bought DELL and never will again.
-
NOPE not at all-
from the UK , all "sevice" calls are to India-
English isnt their first language and the quality of the phone lines is so poor is almost impossible for either party to understand what is being said.
The DELL laptop, is still standard, nothing added, yet crashes weeekly with techno babble conflicts- they are simply poorly made (quality) and cheap software (re McAFEE - do a google and see how hard it is for so many people to rty and remove this rubbish software)
Lots of my friends have also had loads of problems, that DELL (india) never resolved, depsite hours quing on the phone..
We will ALL never ever buy DELL again- they ARE getting a VERY BAD REPUTATION-
customer service counts , and in the case of DELL that is NILL ! -
I love my Vostro 1500. Pretty much perfect in every way.

I would normally not explain my reasons but I am bored while I reinstall AGAIN on my Dell. I voted "No, not at all", for many reasons:
I have had two different Dell XPS M170 laptops. On my first one the Video card fried within a week, and with just normal, browing the Internet use. I had to send the laptop in to be fix. Upon sending in the system Dell lost it. According to DHL the package was delivered, but Dell couldn't "find" it. It took well over a month to finally return the system and get my money back, and with it I got a couple hundred dollar coupon.
I went back to searching for another laptop, but my search would always bring me back to the M170. There was a big sale before the release of the M1710(I think that's what the model was) and there was a sale on the warrenty, three(or five, don't remember) year AT HOME service warrenty. I hoped that the last system was a fluke and I ordered a new M170.
I got my new laptop was happy to find everything was going great for a few months. After about six months things started to get "fun" again. My hard drive started to produce a high-pitch wine as the ball bearing was going bad, and the performance was also dropping. At about the same time the hinges for the LCD started to get "loose" and the slightest movment with the system on my lap would cause the screen to move. Both the hard drive and back panel was replaced. After another couple months the same issues came up again, and again had it replaced, wasted even more of my time. After about one year from getting the laptop the power port went bad on my motherboard. At the same time the lovely hard drive was going bad again. The motherboard, hard drive and back panel was replaced. The service guy installed the new parts and left before even checking if everything worked, which is DIDN'T. The system wouldn't boot sometimes, it would blue screen, you name it. Talked to the support people who said my RAM was now bad, and sent me new ones, installed them, nothing. After more time of dealing with support they told me they "didn't know what was wrong" so they couldn't send any parts for at-home repair, I was forced to send the system to Dell to get it fixed. This time sending it to Dell everything went fine. Dell replaced the Motherboard, RAM, CPU, and hard drive. After two or three months of not having my system, which was during the spring semester of '07, I finally got a working laptop. But it didn't last long. After a couple months, early this summer, the hard drive AND fans(cpu and video card) started to go bad. The bearings were starting to go out. I was so fed up with dealing with the crap I didn't touch the laptop all summer and until now I didn't do anything with it. It seems after sitting for awhile the bearing on the fans and hard drive are a little better, to the point where I don't go completely insane. Even though the bearing on the hard drive seem to be better now that doesn't mean the drive isn't fine. Tried firing it up a few hours ago and it wouldn't, the hard drive was corrupt and I have to reinstall Windows for about the half dozen time. -
i was not at all satisfied with the terrible grainy screen on my dell 1520. i have returned it to dell and i'm waiting for my money to be returned.
didn't mind the wobbly battery, the beeping in the headphones, or the loose ir port- but the grainy screen was too much. -
I think I am gonna have to buy one of those luggage cases and wheel my xps around campus.
other than that, this machine is totally awesome, I dont understand how some people said it was fugly.. no way man.. this thing is gorgeous!! -
Vostro 1400. @GB RAM . NVIDIA
Satisfied Yes... but I have regrets:
0.Value for money
1.heavier than expected 2.5Kg
2.Vista graphics eating up all my performance.
3.Classic theme does not display the videos as good it should be. (really spoils the video) -
Yes... but I have regrets (explain)
I'm happy with the two laptops but:
One of them i had to remove the keyboard, straighten out a wire and replace it because there was a bulge in the keyboard - are these things not checked before they are sent out? I fixed it myself because of the horror stories i've heard from other people who have sent things back which brings me to ....
The second laptop had dead pixels, the first person i rang said no problem, replacement coming in 10 days. 10 days later i ring back and it's a completely different story - there will be a replacement 'whenever', they can't say when because of a worldwide glass shortage (yet the original two came within 3 days). So i ask for a refund only to be told i can't have one because i ordered online. After checking with a legal person i was told what i already knew - that is complete rubbish. I'll be tackling them again on Monday. The fact that i was told an outright lie by them really surprised me.
Oh and the Indian call center is a joke, can't understand the accent (when you can even here them over the pi** poor line that is).
So great laptop when they are working, abysmal customer service and whoever checks them before they leave Dell needs new glasses. It's put me off ever buying another Dell, i thought they were supposed to be a cut above - they are not. -
Yes, Dell Vostro 1500.
Everything seems to be great, minus the cpu noise, hdd clicker and the headphone static!
I managed to fix the clicker and cpu noise with NHC, put the cpu to max, hdd to max as well and the noises are gone as far as i know of.
Overall it is great imo -
I'm satisfied. I have the headphone jack hiss as well, and a *minor* CPU whine (there's something there, but I have to focus to hear it). I had to do a couple of screen replacements as well, but now have a clear, bright LCD.
All things considered, I have a solid, fast, functional laptop which I got for a very good price. -
I'm very happy, but I do have some regrets:
The Inspiron 1420 is a very nice laptop, and I love it. However, I have encountered many problems with Dell Customer Support, and only after numerous tries have I been able to work certain instances out.
That's about the only regret. Other than that, Dell has treated me very, very well (free messenger bag, free external speakers, $500 discount). -
Yes, but I have some regrets.
My E1505 looks great, definitely stands out from the crowd and is impressively fast but it is too heavy! Especially carrying it from point A to point B on a regular basis.
DELL's customer service was an absolute mess. It took me 2 months to receive my computer!
Also, the lid is extremely loose and I am having problems when hibernating. My power options are set to hibernate each time I close the lid or press the power button. However, recently I will close the lid and a few minutes later hear it kick on by itself (while closed). Then upon opening it the screen goes dark and I have to restart it everytime I want to use it. I tried making it hibernate before I close the lid but it still wakes itself up after closing the lid.
Does anyone have this problem or know what is going on? -
I have regrets, but it was my choice, not Dell's fault at all. So I chose completely satisfied
I'm [almost] completely happy with my Vostro.
My only regret is having chosen a 5400RPM hard disk. I really wish I chose the 7200RPM one. It's the only component in my laptop that's slower than my 4+ year old desktop [250 GB + 40 GB, both 7200 RPM]. -
If you get the 250Gb drive (WD Scorpio) its almost as fast as the smaller 7200rpm drives, with the exception of access times.
-
I just have to be [and I am] happy with what I have -
I'm satisfied with my laptop, but one of my regrets are that the paint on the lid began to wear down after 2 weeks and that I didn't expect it to have been this bulky. But overall, this is a great first-laptop.
-
I'm satisfied with my laptop overall. But I don't like that the only OS choice was Vista and I don't like that you can't be sure you'll get a good screen when you order.
-
Yes. Laptop in sig.. no problems at all.
-
I wish I could change my vote. It would be interesting to see a year from now who else would. My computer was awesome, but I think my motherboard is dead now. I guess its not that bad if I convince myself it was a rental not a purchase.
-
Wow, 21% dissatisfied with the M1530.
-
I just got my laptop a few days ago and I'm very happy with it!
-
I am totally satisfied! Love my new 1530, my absolute dream machine! I had a nice dimension 8200 desktop that lasted 6 years-just returned a 1721 that I liked but ordered from QVC and had regrets about the config. so I returned it and got my XPS. I have had exceptional service from dell support, no complaints.

GO PACK, GO! -
I could say I am completely satisfied but the fact is that I am still smarting from the fact that I had to do a full reinstall just 4 days after I got my M1530 ... thanks to the BSOD 0x000C1f5 or some such error.
-
Yes but had regrets for my screen on M1530 is useless. You all know the rest.
-
Love my new XPS M1530!... this is lean mean machine..! its only vista thats got bugs.. but i'm hoping sp1 will fix that! cheers!
-
I'm a M1730 early-adopter. I was disappointed with the screen (bad bleeding), lack of eSata and poor positioning of some of the connectors.
My audio cable (linking to my amp) impinges on my DVD drive when the tray is open.
Any ExpressCard eSata expansion is going to get in the way of my mouse.
Not being able to upgrade to 8800's without a long wait and a lot of money.
