    Why was my laptop in the build phase for 9 days and now it's back to kitting? My laptop is supposed to ship tomorrow.

    Apparently, it could be a good thing because dell wasn't ACTUALLY building my lap top for 9 days. They were waiting for parts, but I highly doubt it will be shipped out by tomorrow. :\

    They are probably swapping out for Canadian packing peanuts.

    That stage can take up to three weeks, because they don't order the packing peanuts until up to a week after the shipping date. (They pay a guy to come in once a week, and fill out the order form for that week's packing peanuts, so it could take up to 5 days.)

    If you ordered the Covet, it can take longer, because they special-order orange metallic packing peanuts.

    I ordered my Dell Vostro 1510 on January 7, 2009. Right now it's still "In Production"; how long does this usually take for Vostro 1510's?

    I think, in this case....you should contact a Dell rep directly and find out exactly what is going on, and the latest on the status ;)

    Thats nearly 12 days ago :eek:

    It could ship sooner, Dell always over estimates on the ESD...for probs. like part delays, etc). :D

    yeah that's what i was thinking too :)

    i hope it arrives without any problems though (eject button, crackly speakers, back-lit keyboard). after reading about all of these lemons they ship out it makes me concernedddd

    Odd Purolator keeps calling me giving me the Automated message that my 1530 will be here the next day... LOL they have called and said that 3 times now but when I track the laptop its still showing

    2009/01/18 15:30 In Transit in U.S. via U.S.A. GROUND LINEHAUL depot .. and today is the 20th

    Odd really since i'm in London Ontario.. and its according to their tracking system its not in Canada yet.. LOL good old Purolator... but I have to say wow dell was fast I ordered my m1530 on the 15th and it was ship on the 18th.. that is sure fast on dells side of things. now I just wait for Purolator.. can't compain tho its free shipping LOL

    Do you know what part you ordered that might be holding it up?? I wanted Blue but I got Black since I knew blue would hold up my order. when I setup the order on their web site it said that blue would cause it to be held up. so I went with black... i'm going to be getting a skin for the lid anyways. so it didn't really matter to me.

    Oh that's good! At least they won't leave it, and it will be stored safely!

    I picked up my 1530 and my Mini 9 at the local depot's...as I wasnt home either. It's nice that they are open later, that way you don't feel rushed, though you will want to *rush* yourself to pick it up, per se! :D

    I'm in the order process and thought I'd share my experience. I ordered on 1/11/09 (10 days ago) and today (1/21) was my expected ship date. I got an email this morning saying that there was a delay and the revised ship date is now 1/27. I called the automated order status line (800-433-9014) which indicated that it was in the "Boxing" stage. Not impressed, I thought I'd call the number in the email I was sent (877-868-3355) to try for more info. The CSR told me that there was a delay sourcing a component of the system, but he didn't have any more info. I asked if he could upgrade me to 2nd day shipping and he said the order was locked and that this was not possible. When I log on to "My Account" it still says that estimated ship date is 1/21 and status is "in production."
    So, apparently my XPS 1530 is "in production," "Boxing," and "waiting for components." hmmm...I'm dying over here...still using my Inspiron 7500 from 1999!
    Any idea if I can still try to get my shipping upgraded? When is this likely to really ship?

    Well My XPS m1530 came yesterdays.. And I have to say I love it..
    Here are some of the spec. that I had build over the stock spec's
    Intell T8300, Blueray, Bluetooth, and the best part the LED 1440x900 Display.. the image is amazing with the LED back light.. well worth the upgrade... have to say i'm very impressed with this laptop. I have already been using alot of photoshop on this system and it is very fast for a laptop.. also just installed windows 7.. have to say Dell has done a really good job with this system.. also the time it took them to build it was very very fast 3 days from the day I ordered it was being shipped. very impressed!

    Congrats! I also ordered the LCD 1440x900 Display.
    I'm not sure what's holding mine up. Every time I call the Customer Care group, they tell me that they don't know. When I ordered it online, the display was what said the order would be delayed to 1/19. Not too sure why it's been delayed to 1/26.
    I'm still in the build stage. Supposed to ship in 4 days, but I'm not too hopeful at this point. Maybe it will show up before I leave on my work excursion, cause that IS the reason I bought it...

    What makes me even grumpier is that if I were to order the exact same model online today, it states it would ship after 8 days (the 3 day delay for the screen). It's been 19 days since I ordered mine and it's still in build status. W T F Dell...

    this is exactly what i'm afraid is going to happen to mine. i keep checking on the automated phone line and it keeps telling me it's in the build stage. i ordered it on the morning of the 14th and the ESD is the 26th. that's 4 days away and i'm concerned that it's still in the build stage. i definitely feel like i'm going to get an e-mail too. and if i do, i either want the $25 refunded for my shipping or i want next day for free :) when you spend $1200 and wait 2 weeks it should at least ship out on time. i'm not complaining YET though...i know people on here have gone through much longer/painful waiting periods! mine's only 4 days away from shipping and i don't even think i can wait anymore! haha. can't wait to configure it.

    Call a Rep directly..tell them you are reassessing your order. And, would like to know if they can change your shipping to Next Day. It has worked for lot's of peeps. :D

    In case someone cares: My laptop was shipped today (1/23) expected to arrive on Tuesday. So that was two days in "boxing" even though the CSR told me we were waiting for parts.

    My ESD is/was the 26th, but I'm still in "build". I emailed some higher ups today after Customer Service told me they could give me no info. I find it hard to believe that there is not some system that tracks what the order is waiting on.

    *I guess my email got somewheres. I got upgraded to Next Day shipping. Now hopefully they'll finish with it at least a few days before I have to go.

    You may want to call Dell, and ask the Rep..if they are willing to compensate you for the *wait* you have been put thru. You could get a nice E-Coupon out of it. I had this luck with my Mini 9, when it was having build problems! ;)

    If I get the dreaded "ship delay" email tomorrow, I'm going to do exactly that. The ESD is tomorrow. It's been in "build" for 22 days. What are the chances that it will move from testing-shipped in one day? I think pretty unlikely, but maybe they'll prove me wrong.

    So did they say the Screen is the reason the order was Delay?? I ordered the LED 1440x900 LCD display and my xps m1530 was orderd on the 14th and shipped on the 17th It showed up at my door on the 20th. here in London, Ontario.

    And is there some place that I'm missing the info that you've got the pic of? I can't find it for the life of me on the website. I know it used to be there in '05 and '07 when I ordered my last laptop and desktop (respectively). Do they still have it for US orders?

    Finally in the boxing stage! It *should* be shipping out tomorrow. Very excited. :) IF it doesn't ship out tomorrow and I get that dreaded delay e-mail I'm going to call and a free upgrade request next day shipping. If they hassle me I might fib and tell them I ordered it because I'll be needing it for a business trip that I'm leaving for on Thursday.

    Well my order is delayed. So mad! I called and tried to get upgraded shiping but the customer care guy said he couldn't change it once the order is placed. What the heck? Now it isn't shipping out until Friday. This is crap. I asked to speak to someone higher up and he wouldn't transfer me and said there was no one higher up to speak to. What do you all recommend? This is ridiculous. They give an ESD and seem to completely disregard it. Who can I call higher up than customer care?

    I sent an email to Michael Dell, [email protected], and Paul Bell, [email protected]. It got sent to the escalation team. Sorry to hear that. =/

    Still no email about a potential delay about mine. But it's still in the "build" stage. Don't they send out the emails on the day it was supposed to ship, but didn't?

    Contact Dell, and ask to be put thru to Escalations...Whoever you get on the phone when you call, tell them you want to speak to a Manager or Escalations. If they ask you what the problem is, just say that is why I'm calling *please honor my request, and place my call to Escalations/Resolutions Team or Manager*. When, you speak with them be sure to get their ID, and a case number/email of the convo.

    They can upgrade you to Next Day Shipping. They have done this for me 2x's after the order was in production.

    Never forget...there is always someone higher than the person you are speaking with on the phone. :D

    I'll be attempting this right now...hopefully it works. When you pay $1200 for a laptop and order it 2.5 weeks in advance you'd think they could AT LEAST get the ESD right. I'll let you know how I make out! :)
