So I've gave the repair shop where my laptop is a call and they've told me that they can not replicate the error so they are "waiting for the error to occur".
Is there really no other way to check if a motherboard is short circuiting? I mean if they just performed an electrical discharge and booted up the PC then what the hell would they achieve if the laptop shuts itself down when they could have clearly seen that the laptop is not booting up.
I mean can't you check the mobo for short circuiting some way by measuring the electricity or something?

No, what your talking about requires a ton of work to test an entire motherboard. Are they replicating what you do to get it to stop working? -
Yeah, that's what I've been told.
What essentially happened to me 2/3 times was that I unplugged the laptop and picked it up and then it stopped working. The first time it was compelty random while plugged in and all.

It was fairly easy for you to do so though? I seem to recall it was most every time you moved the laptop. Did you take a video of it or anything? My guess is the tech tried one time and then said "oh it's good." -
Thing is it didn't always happen, it was purely random sometimes it did sometimes it didn't. When it did and when I did an electrical discharge I could replicate it very easily.
After some time passed it was back to being random. I did give them instructions about how I replicated the issue after performing an electrical discharge.

so that unit have some issues? man how come i didnt know that on the first place....-__-
-
No he meant that if there is some issue with your machine in future you neee to send it to dell for repair. They will not come to your home for repairing.

okay thanks in advance...
i m just end up with core i5 + 1060MQ model -__-' , i hope the performance will good as the average reviews says... -
Get your hands dirty on it

Hello guys.
I have also joined you with i7 and gtx 1060 version. (came with samsung nvme), white backlit, 1x16 ram module.
I need couple of suggestions from you
1) Unit came with two dead pixel on the screen, Local dell support offered lcd replacement under customer satisfaction, but they refused unit replacement. Should i go for lcd replacement? I'm fearing slipshod work will done by service. I could go unit replacement via local courts but it will last long at least 2 month.
2) Is any of you able to install windows 8.1 with intel drivers working? Windows 10 is a mess there are a lot of bugs, and this optimus bug which makes whole system freezing about 0.5 msec when right clicking and some windows animations occurs.
3) Does any of you extend warranty? How much it costs and is it worth it?FireLantern likes this. -

I say if the unit itself is well built and runs well, just have them replace the screen. You can always return the laptop and repurchase if they don't want to give you a new unit.
No idea on win 8.1. I'm sure it can be done since people are still running windows 7 on their machines.
It's always more money to extend the warranty after purchasing the laptop, I recommend buying the warranty you want when you purchase. -
Thank you for the tips.
I failed to use windows 7 either. I'm stuck in installing nvidia drivers since it is asking me to install intel drivers first, which is not installable either. -
Stuff that works in Windows 10 usually works in Windows 8.1 tho this is just anecdotal expreince. I too have been thinking of maybe putting Windows 8.1 onto my machine once I get it back from repair, get most of the convinience from Windows 10 and don't have to deal with Windows 10.

so the 9.5mm hard drive will not
fit into dell 7577 hdd bay ?
anyone can confirm this? -
Get the 7mm or less.

Hello
Want to pick this model in near future, and im thinking about what CPU to get.
Most reviews i seen have i5 version and praise thermals and fan decent fan noise, however i7 most users reviews i seen actualy say it can turn p hot and loud
Probably i would be fine with i5 if indeed it has better work culture, tho id like some extra processing power for some emulator duty or 3d rendering. So any opinions on above?
Thanks! -
Hey guys,
After installing Intel and Mircosoft's updates to fix SPECTRE and MELTDOWN bugs, my cpu temperature (7700qh, -125mV) increases by 4~5*C. Sometime it goes over 70*C when i'm surfing the web. Disabling Virtualization in bios setting brings the temp back to normal. Just for your infomation -
What does virtualization do? Ive noticed my Dell 7577 doing random freeze every 10-20 seconds after the Spectre/Meltdown patch was downloaded. ANy ideas to solving the freezing(Mouse taking their time, some slowdowns, high usage of CPU).
-
virtualization is for running another virtual machine in your current OS by virtualization software ( virtual box/VMWare,... ). Spectre/Meltdown bugs and patches affect on Intel's virtualization function. If you do not use any simulation/virtualization software, just disable it - your problem may be solved. The increase in temperature causes cpu throttle/ mouse freezing.Last edited: Jan 10, 2018

And how do I go around and undervolt the cpu? Will the Intel software that they provide be sufficient?
-
i think firecuda 1tb 2.5 sshd will be fit.
so how to restore this laptop to factory default from image system dell website ? or any good way without windows clean installation.
would you mind to share processing step by step..

Quick question for you guys, has anyone used this laptop for VR/Oculus Rift?
I bought this laptop during the New Years Sale as it came recommended from a few sites as being VR Ready. It's even listed as VR Ready on the US site (although I am in Canada and it's not listed as VR Ready here, only the Alienwares are).
While waiting for my laptop to be produced, I have read that the Optimus and internal GPU cause some issues with VR. Namely, that it introduces stuttering. The problem seems to be with the Nvidia Optimus. Now, I know that the HDMI port goes to the video card direct, but even still, I've read that having the in-built screen as the primary display still introduces stuttering.
Has anyone had issues with stuttering from the Optimus and internal gpu with VR? Alternatively, I could hook up a monitor to the display port as a primary monitor and disable the in-built screen, correct? Knowing that the HDMI bypasses the internal gpu, and the DisplayPort can handle up to 4k...can I assume/does anyone know if the DIsplayPort also bypasses the internal gpu? Would a monitor on DIsplayPort, Oculus Rift on HDMI remove the internal gpu from the equation and eliminate this problem?
Many thanks, I've been frantically searching the web for an answer to this but there isn't much out there in regards to VR/Oculus Rift with the 7577. Besides that it looks to be exactly what I need, and at a good price (considering I'm in Canada and hardware prices are wonky). -
The laptop is still running? Then you can start a reset in the system settings under recovery.
-
One of the reason I bought the 7577 GTX1060 was for VR, this is my experience:
I wanted to try installing and setting up the Oculus and test it with only the battery running. It installed correctly, all USB ports working fine. When I started the first HMD calibration, the notebook suddenly shut down and took approximately 10 minutes to reboot.
After the automatic reboot and repair(!), this time I connected it to the electrical outlet and restarted the calibration/setup. It worked fine and I did the first tutorial with the robot and the 3D printer, I didn't see any more issues, no stuttering (unless you only use it by battery, maybe there are some energy settings to consider). But I haven't tried any other VR apps yet. -
GTX 1060 or any GPU on battery will kill it causing shut down ones the temps on battery crosses 65C. If you do it repeatedly it kills your battery and battery in turn can kill your board.
-
I've received my laptop back from "repair". They did an electrical discharge and the laptop was working fine for a week so I'm getting it back.
I've talked personally with the technician during the week and provided him all of the information about the sudden shutdowns that I had.
They told me that if the shut downs happen again that I should bring the laptop to them and that then they will replace the mobo, so I guess it's a matter of time for when that happens.
I'm kinda feeling weird about this, but I guess they will finally replace the mobo if it occurs again...

thats why i m asking, because i m so unfamiliar with windows 10, i m coming from windows 8.1.
man i hope i can install windows 8.1 on 7577 LOL. -
It works the same with Windows 8.1. Windows 10 and 8.1 are not very different.

I can snag this sku I7577-7425BLK-P
for $999.
It seems to have the UHD panel. Is this a nice panel or just mediocre? -
It's not bad but do know that you will have some backlight bleed.
After calibration it's actually quite decent but actually but it's definitely worse than the UHD screen.

Ahh ok. So does this mean that gaming in general should always be done plugged in? That's ok with me...I need something portable but I will always be near an outlet. This is good information to know though.
So running through a cord, even if the battery is charging, is totally fine/safe?
Glad to hear someone has used VR with the 7577 without issue though! -
Refrain from doing that continuously. If battery is charging and you are using PC, the battery will get super hot and you'll have more wear level and decrease in battery capacity. So, let it cool down for 1 hr and then charge. That way, the cells won't degrade.
I'm using Alienware 15 with 980M and not Inspiron 15. -
Thank you for the reply. One more quick question (sorry). If the battery is fully charged at 100% and I'm plugged in with the power cord, do I still need to worry about the battery overheating, or does the power supply bypass the battery completely if its fully charged? Sorry for the noob questions...my last laptop wasn't used for anything intensive so I've never had to worry about something like this. Thanks!
-
It is bypassed. Change the charging profile to "always on cord", this will help the battery.
-
W10 does a good work of not overcharging. It will charge if its below 95% otherwise the moment you plug in AC adapter and battery charge = 95% it suddenly shows 100% Fully Charged thereby reducing battery wear levels.
I'm on creators update. Atleast on creators it works that way. -
This unit I’m referring to has the UHD screen. Are you referring to the FHD panel?
-
Ah, my bad I misread that. Sorry wasn't quite awake when I was reading it.

I have recently received one of these laptops and everything is great apart from the touchpad seems to have a very noticeable rattle / tapping / clicking sound even when lightly using my finger on it (Obviously not the usual 'click' you can get by pushing down).
I did see a potential fix but it was for the 7567 and didn't seem to correlate to the 7577 when I opened the bottom of mine up to have a look at. Has anybody else come across similar on the 7577? The trouble is I don't really want Dell to swap it out as another unit may have other issues! -
Can Fast-Sync enable on these? Doesn't seem to allow it. Anyway to force Dedicated GPU to perhaps allow Fast-Sync function? I did try to force enable the GTX 1060 in the Nvidia settings....no luck getting Fast-Sync as an option.
Please advise,
Bob -
What the hell is fast-sync?
I think the touchpads clicks 2 to 3 times louder than normal touchpads. I avoid the loud click via touch clicking, not press clicking. -
Fast Sync essentially makes a tear-free experience when you're FPS is above your panels refresh-rate by dropping all frames past the panels refresh-rate. It does a great job while having a great input response unlike v-sync. It's enabled on mid range on up Pascal. I Iove it!
But, the Dell 7577 does not allow this because of Optimus. I knew this but did not realize Optimus cannot be disabled on this laptop.
What is the most interesting thing is that after watching many videos on this 7577, not a single mention of Fast-Sync not an option. While there's a backwoods way to make it somewhat function via NV Inspector, it's still not as good as the standard usage.
Also, we lose the ability to use Shadowplay on these units too. It's nowhere near as user friendly with the current setup Dell has on these. If Optimus could be disabled these issues wouldn't exist.
Yes, the touchpad is very noisy just as you said. You were not kidding! -

You must be talking about G-sync? In the laptop world you can either have G-sync and no battery life or no G-sync and battery life...
Dell chose to build this as something that can still get multiple hours of battery life. Besides g-sync screens cost more money... -
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
Interesting, so it's nvidia's own V-sync and is not a replacement to g-sync... No the 7577 does not support it. I've never even tried it on my 1080ti.
-
I have found a strange workaround with NV inspector but it’s not exactly a fire and forget solution.
How does Shadowplay work on the 7577?
Can’t record the desktop obviously because of Optimus too. Optimus is great, but having the ability to disable it would be nice too. -
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
Yeah it would require a mux chip to switch between the two and there are very few laptops with the ability to have optimus or discrete. -
Back to Clevo I go lol
-
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
bye?

That was rather rude. Sorry if I upset you.
I hope I wasn’t a burden to this thread. I’m just looking for answers.
Thanks for your help.
