Lol. Now this is taking it too far. But i doubt you'll find what you looking for.
Maybe consider USB keyboard. I think the keyboard is okay. Takes getting used to. But it's ok

Happy Birthday. I look forward to your review on this screen. You did get the Samsung LTN156HL02-301 in the end, right?

Thanks for the kind wishes mate. I've been contacted by the shipping company. On my way to go pick it up now. I'd have told them to deliver (3rd party delivery) but i have some business to attend to around there anyways. So I'll get it myself. Jusy left home :)

As I feared they are just as useless as all the other panel sellers. The only compatible model they have in stock is the LP156WF4 (SP)(L1). So I've cancelled the order.

Why can none of these panel sellers actually put up what stock they actually have of each panel model? How difficult can that be FFS.

I don't really want to buy from China, apart from the high shipping costs to receive the panel in a reasonable time frame there is the issue of returns if the panel is wrong or defective. Too risky for me.

I inquired about the Samsung LTN156HL02 301 panel with one vendor (which is listed as available to buy online on their website) ; here is the interesting email exchange that ensued:

    Me: The SAMSUNG LTN156HL02 301 15.6

Do you have this exact model in stock?

    Vendor:

    Hi There
    I have LP156WF4

    Sales
    Customer Services

    Me:

    Hello,
No, the LP156WF4 is not acceptable to me. It is an inferior panel.

    Vendor:

    Hi,

We sell to the masses for whom this is perfectly acceptable, as a FULL HD IPS panel.

    Sales
    Customer Services

    Me:

    Hello,

Well, you said it "the masses" . Most people haven't got a clue. Many of them would probably be just as happy with some crappy 1366x768 TN screen. I'm not about to replace my (broken) LP156WF6 SPM1 panel with an inferior model, even if the differences are small in this case they are still important (slower response time and lower brightness)

Anyway, do you have either of the following panels in stock?

    LG Philips LP156WF6 SPB1
    SAMSUNG LTN156HL06 C01

    Thanks

    Vendor:

    >Well, you said it "the masses" . Most people haven't got a clue.
These people are our bread and butter, if we just sold to the odd person that had read a datasheet and thinks he can tell the difference we would have gone out of business years ago. We sell replacement LCD panels and stock 140 thousand models, imagine the logistics of that, and then somebody armed with a little information wastes our time specifically wanting a HW4A version or some other silly request.

The truth is for the price the EU is lucky we (and our competitors) are here reallyt as the only other alternative would be back to the laptop maker for the same thing 600% more expensive. Whoever made your laptop will be using all the models you’ve asked for and calling them the same thing. Which is what they are. Nit picking detailed specs is a ridiculous request considering our circumstances and how we have to operate.

Many of them would probably be just as happy with some crappy 1366x768 TN screen. I'm not about to replace my (broken) LP156WF6 SPM1 panel with an inferior model, even if the differences are small in this case they are still important (slower response time and lower brightness)

You won’t replace it with anything then because everybody you call will have WF4 – that’s whats being shipped for $18 USD from china right now. It’s all I have sorry.

    Sales
    Customer Services

Now, OK I was exaggerating a little with the "most customers haven't a clue" comment, but it strikes me if this the general arrogant and dismissive attitude towards customers from EU vendors I may as well give up on the lot of them.

That is a shocking response from any company.. "This is our bread and butter".. What's that? Taking people's money for inferior and incomparable screens!

I've been told $50 for the screen and $38.80 for DHL tracked shipping. Need to add VAT of 20%, but there is no duty charge for items from China. So looking at around £75 all in

Yeah , I thought so to. I was going to write an angry reply but there's no point. He couldn't care less anyway.

£75 all in isn't too bad at all. Are you sure there's no import duty? I've been stung with that before shipping from the US.

Yeah, just be wasting your time.

I'm 95% sure.. Would make sense as well considering how many imports there are from China. I used an online duty calculator and said no duty

£75 is very reasonable I thought

Going for the Samsung HL02-301, if Stanley is happy. That seller only had a LG SPB1 with a few dead pixels

Latest update from the vendor I annoyed by having the temerity to ask if they actually had any stock of a panel they were advertising as in stock:

    Me:
    Hello,

Well that's a shame. I guess I'll have to keep looking for now or maybe try to get one shipped from the Far East, which I'd rather not do tbh.

Do you know when you might be getting any stock of those other panels I'm interested in?

    Thanks,
    Antony

    Vendor:
I don’t even like to discuss it really.

Last chap I had this conversation with 2 weeks ago, I popped down to despatch and saw with my own eyes LP156WF6. So that’s what I told him we had.

He ordered that night and received LP156WF4. The 6 had gone on a large order and the team opened another box and guess what was in it, WF4.

He went ballistic and to be honest I’ve had enough of these kind of enquiries now.

You know, often we’ll unbox things and find a different model to what was ordered, they do it to us – the Chinese.

We’ve even been sent obviously 2nd hand before on orders of new stock.

That’s why we have somebody there full time now who inspects the stock for us.

I thought my reply was very restrained and polite!

Lol. Just fitted the screen. And right away u can see its a better screen however i see the light so bright behind. But i can't see the brightness to it. Lol.

I messed with a few settings settings trying to calibrate the BOE screen. I won't judge it yet. Tbh. So far 7/10. I'm still coupling my laptop together, when I'm done, I'll let u know.

I hope it works for you, but this is beginning to look a bit too risky for me to jump in: risky purchase/will the panel be any good/dead pixels/effort of fitting the screen/etc etc.

Might just return for a different laptop. Which would be a real shame because I like this one, but don't seem to get on with the screen.

I know its a different price bracket, but I was thinking of going upto a 17" alienware r3 (with a student discount). That way I'd hopefully get a better screen and a gtx970 to boot. But its a lot more cash :-(

I have the latest 15" Alienware laptop with a GTX 970 - fantastic laptop; solidly built. Not a cheap option of course but I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with the 17" model.

Hahahaha! I'm so dumb. Windows Power saver was on! And that is why screen looked dimmer. I knew something was wrong. Brightness is back! Loool.

Not my fault I've been busy since morning. It's my birthday and I'm so stressed lol.

Now we are up to 8.5./10.
I'm so tired. I'm going to lay down now i will take a nap. I will still report on this display later. I still feel like there might be a calibration issue somewhere. I don't know. Lol.

However for now in HWinfo, it states the display as: Samsung SDC5344 and unknown model.

Here is a link to a notebook with with this panel. Says 99% sRGB and 75% Adobe.
    http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/review/laptops/hp-zbook-15u-g2-laptop-review-3612374/

I will still write something when i get to try it out proper. Plugged in. Now to Zzzz bye :)

That's good to know. To be honest I've been leaning that way over the weekend. The issue is that I quite like how quiet and cool the dell manages to remain, but do find the overall quality quite low compared to my MacBook air.

BUT it was really cheap, and I like that it gets good fps on the games I want to play (just hate the screen bluring), although the integrated gpu issue/wifi issue etc can be a bit frustrating.

My main concern going over to alienware is that I'll still have lots of annoying issues, but will have shelled out nearly twice the price! If I had some assurance that my extra £££ meant I'd get a machine that required less maintenance, I'd definitely upgrade.

But I'm concerned that the issues I've had have more to do with windows itself than the actual hardware.

    Any thoughts?

If you want to play the latest AAA games Windows is still the only game in town really though isn't it?. I'm not that keen on Windows 10 but I could live with it (The Alienware laptop was actually bought for my son. I use a Mac book air most of the time, but then I don't really play games much any more).

True, and thanks for taking the time to answer.

I'm coming to this from quite an odd perspective really, considering that I only bought the laptop to play games on, mostly while in hotels when work send me around the country. What's more having been a mac user for more than a decade (windows at work - but of course supported by an IT department), Ideally I want something that I switch on, can while away a couple of hours in the evening, and then forget about.

The dell gives me enough power, but the screen is really too poor, and I could do without the extra eyestrain. how would you compare the quality of the Alienware to your MBA? Did your son have driver issues/wifi not working (or similar issues) etc like many users of the 7559 have described in this thread?

The Alienware feels really solid, good keyboard, good display; even the touchpad is perfectly usable. It's almost as well made as our 2011 Macbook Air. You can tell it is better made than the 7559, but then again, it did cost £450 more.
I've had no issues with the 7559 at all - everything works (apart from the broken panel atm of course) . I did install a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro on an SSD; I didn't use the preinstalled Windows 10 home much, but that was working fine too. Bang for the buck I don't think you can beat the 7559 right now.

Rookie error haha. What do you think is not right about it now? Not as bright as you were expecting or the colours are off? Does a SDC5344 mean it's an LTN156HL02 or is it actually a different panel?
Really intrigued to see how you get on with this, and a couple of photos of possible!

From what I read over in the Alienware forums the new M15 screen is horrid. It should be the same one that came in this i7559 that I have. It's the LP156WF6 SPM1 and the screen brightness is very very poor. It's actually worse than the BOE. Can you tell us what screen yours has?

    What is the HWInfo64 model?

Hey guys! I know some of you are waiting on my response.

Now here is what i think about the HL02-301 i have.
The screen is not as bright as i want it to be. I've used the HL01-102 on my friend's Asus and that seems miles away in my opinion.

Color production seems better than BOE and bleed is like 1% if i can say that. U don't see the bleed unless u actually look!

I have tried and tried to see if it's a BOE calibration that is messing with the screen, but i don't know. I don't think so.
Unless there is some other way to totally reset all calibrations or something like that.

Also why i say this is, the screen looks alot better from viewing angles than head on. It's just very weird. If you have suggestions, please let me hear them.

To conclude, unless this is something set wrong or watever, then i DO NOT recommend the display. Colors are better than BOE but It's darker.

Again, if someone has something i can try that would be nice. But if you are going to buy a new screen right now.

    Get LTN156HL01-102 (SDC324C) it's great or get the LP156WF6-SPB1.

As long as you get those EXACT models, You will not regret buying any of them. Cheers! :)

Sorry to hear about that. I hope it is a calibration issue. For me, colour accuracy is more important than brightness. I tend to dial down the brightness anyway. Maybe if I used laptops outdoors more I would appreciate a brighter display.

Getting the EXACT model of panel is the big problem of course. You to chase them to ascertain what panels they have in stock. It's a nightmare tbh

The main complaint does seem to be the poor brightness. Not an issue for me; I turn the brightness down fairly low anyway.

What i did was re-install both Intel and Nvidia Graphics drivers. And yes. I can actually see the colora are better. Right from the boot screen area (where i type my password). I think this is a professional screen. I believe it's similar to the AU Optronics B156HAN01.2 in a way. I'm stull think if i should return or not. Will cost me only $10 to ship it back. (3rd party shipper).

I don't need a professional display lol. I need a 'BRIGHT' and crisp one. Even if the colors are fake lol. I don't mind xD

The HL01-102 on my friend's computer is great. If i can get that one, if be fine. That EXACT one. However to avoid risking getting something different, IF i decide to return this display, I'll get the LP156WF6-SPB1. @Talon u can confirm that this display is plenty bright yes?

@Stanley08 yes the screen is brighter, but by how much I can't tell you. If I had to guess I would say maybe 20%. If brightness is all you care about, then the SP156WF4 SPB1 was the brightest I found so far, but those response times weren't something I could handle. It was only a tad bit brighter than the WF6 though.

I don't think were going to get a desktop like experience, but being able to get something bright enough for dark areas in games was my need and the WF6 SPB1 fits the bill. It also covers me on response times. I am very satisfied with this screen now.

Something I did to also "enhance" the brightness was I went to the Intel control panel and upped the all color gamma to either 1.1 and set the brightness up about 10 clicks. I then saturated the colors by 20 clicks and I really like the way this looks now. I'm sure if I got this screen calibrated it might look even better, but I don't need professional grade color accuracy since I don't use it for that type of work. I sort of wish I had kept the old BOE display so I could do a comparison photo for you, but unfortunately don't have one.

I do have the old LG display the SPM1, but that screen is really really bad and it would be pointless to show it since its not the screen most people received with their laptop.

I'll try out ur settings and see. If i can squeeze more out of this screen. I tried a calibration file for HP Omen (which comes with this panel also), and the screen got a tad brighter. At least it equalled out the brightness. Also i tried one of LP156WF6-SPB1 dat was almost similar too.

I'm actually thinking about keeping this display because i can see the quality to it. I can see the contrast in the colors that makes it look great. And for a second i was thinking. What if I'm just asking for too much? What if?

I think I've been spoiled looking at HL01-102. The real thing. Maybe that's why. Lol.

Here is a video comparison between the HL02-301 i have and the HL01-102 on my friend's Asus ROG. You'll see the difference.

If you can get the AMAZING HL01-102, it's just an unbelievable display. Then PLEASE go for it. 1110:1 contrast, 97 to 100% sRGB, up to 344cd/m^3 brightness. It's something!

However, if you cannot get that or you are not sure. Just go for the LP156WF6-SPB1. It's a great display as long as u are not doing any professional work. If you want to play it safe.

But if you are a professional and don't care about brightness so much but want a great display with just about enough brightness. Then the AUO B156HAN01.2 is the way to go.
1250:1 contrast, 91 to 95% sRGB (depending on calibration). Average brightness is around 275 compared to the 310 average on the LP156WF6-SPB1.

So basically, the HL01-102 SDC324C has the brightness of the LP156WF6-SPB1 but better and the color of the AUO B156HAN01.2 but better!

If you are not sure, don't risk trying to get the HL01-102. Because if you get the HL01-101, that's a much worse display. Stay safe with the LP156WF6-SPB1 :)

Laptop ETA is currently 9th Feb, so I guess we'll find out then.
I've ordered another Hynix SODIMM to complement the current one (same model exactly as I'm pedantic like that, couldn't be bothered swapping both DIMMS) and a Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD since mine didn't come with one, although its the i7 model.

    @Stanley08

Made a video and tried to replicate your scenario for a brightness test, although I think camera differences would make a slight difference as well so it is had to have a perfect comparison. My LG screen appears much brighter though and similar to your friends screen. I'll upload it later.

Thanks for the response and that is unfortunate! I had my hopes up for the HL02! I'll need to look into the SP B1 or HL01-102!

Hopefully there are enough screens for us all :)

Well, i think i always knew the screen i wanted was HL02-201 and not HL02-301. However i took a gamble. Which did not pan out completely well, choosing it over already proven LP156WF6-SPB1, AUO B156HAN01.2 and HL01-102.
Regardless, i took a shot for the team xD
