Generally, those ain't worth as they cost close to an actual IPS and are still worse.

I'd like to keep it around $1000, and I'd pay Dell extra for an upgrade to a decent 1080 screen, but they don't offer one. I've bought Dell laptops for many years, but I won't put up with a crap panel. I'll look into the Lenovo Legion when it comes out, or maybe an MSI or Asus.

Currently, the best entry-level gaming laptops of 2017 are shaping up to be the Asus GL553 Strix and the Lenovo Legion Y520

The Acer VX15 and the Dell 7567 both have the same type of crappy TN as the 2014 Y50 - it was bad. Like, not worth it.

MSI's GE series are an option but build quality and noise performance is simply not as good as the others. I'd start at the GS series with them.

HP's Omen, if it gets updated to a 1050 (Ti) may also become an option.

If these models only have a 1050 instead of the Ti, I guess the XPS 15 might become an option too. I'll just read through all the reviews when they are all out on the market.

XPS 15 is notably more expensive and suffers from VRM throttling causing performance hic-ups during extended load. (like a 2-3 hour gaming session)

I could use a 10% off coupon to bring an XPS 15 model below $1100, but if the new model is still throttling I'm not interested.

Yeah, but there's no way to upgrade the crappy 7567 screen except for doing it yourself, which I'm not really comfortable doing.

This review of the Lenovo Y520 launches it ahead of the Acer and the Dell I think. A crappier IPS screen still beats the hell out of a terrible TN panel and the overall specs/look seem excellent:

    https://tinyurl.com/hs4mb23

Bit worried about the potential throttling issues though.

pre-production TIM is not really indicative of anything - best wait and see from reputable sources.

source? From what I know, there is a 1080p TN on most and a 4K IPS on the 1200$ one

well, bit the bullet and ordered: 2017 edition - dell inspiron 7000 gaming - 7567
    7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-7300HQ Quad Core (6MB Cache, up to 3.5 GHz)
    8GB, 2400MHz, DDR4
    256GB Solid State Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 4GB

    for £809.90

imho - superb deal, even with "mediocore" screen (which is still better than my current Asus - much better resolution, more or less same view angles :D)

    waiting anxiously! :D

Then you should look into replacing the screen - the LCD is the same one found in the 2014 Y50 - check reviews to see.

    I hear what you say.
but my current Asus has more or less same view angles - perfectly fine with me.

also - screen replacement is around 50-60 gbp for the IPS pannel.
original laptop price - 899 GBP. I got it for 809. so i got quite a reserve here ;)

if screen will be unbearable - will replace it.

Looks like the rumors that Dell was going to switch to IPS turned out to be untrue :(

Also another (USA-based) model I recommend instead of the Dell Inspiron 7567: The Eluktronics N850HK1. https://www.amazon.com/Eluktronics-N850HK1-Premium-Performance-Laptop/dp/B06X6BB9F7/

GTX 1050 Ti + an even better IPS display than the Inspiron 7559 (The Eluktronics uses the fantastic 72% NTSC gamut LP156WF6-SPB1) for $899.

It's a Clevo. Same model as the Sager NP6852, just cheaper and from a different reseller.

(the offered 4K version of the Eluktronics is PenTile not-true-4K, so I might not suggest that one, but the FHD model is great!)

i still wait for my order.
    but:
    1) current panel has very quick response, compared to ISP.
    2) well, reviews call panel "average". :/ not ****ty or so.
    3) spare IPS panel costs like 50 USD and 15 minutes to replace it.
    4) Dell has better vents, ergo, better cooling, ergo, less speed throttling
    5) design of this one from clevo is just atrocious.

Ah, wasn't specifically replying to your post, just wanted to post that model here since I've been recommending it a lot lately.

    However I will say
    - The response times seem to be 36 (50%-80%) / 36 (Black-White) for the Inspiron TN vs 50/17 for the LP156WF6-SPB1. So half better / half worse. Faster for shades of gray, but not for black-white, and not quite as fast in either measurement as the Alienware 15 R3 120Hz TN.
    - I think reviews call it average because we have a low standard for 'average' :p I do think it's low quality in a rather noticeable way.
    - True! And while I don't recommend it in the general case, I think for buyers like you who are aware of the display replacement route and are willing to pursue it if they end up not liking their display, the Inspiron 7567 can be a fine way to hit all the points you're looking for. (edit: however I don't recommend the model in the general case, and I also think it's important to the whole "vote with your wallet" thing against this.)

Could you point me towards any instructions on how to choose and replace the screen on this laptop please? It ticks so many boxes that going to the effort of the panel replacement seems worthwhile.

Well, all I can tell - LOW SCREEN QUALITY - is exaggerated!

to be honest, cannot fault this screen (TN panel). and cannot see much difference from my employer issued Latitude.

seriously - screen is OK for my refined taste!

    as talking about performance:

in is i5 and 1050 version.
it has a white keyboard backlit (much better than red IMO).

    more than happy with it!

I've been using mine for almost 2 weeks now and it's honestly not that bad for the price. These are my specs:
    i7-7700hq
    GTX 1050Ti
    8gb ram
    SSD+HDD combo

It performs pretty well and the cooling is excellent on this system. LMAO it ramps up under load but not to an obnoxious extent. Honestly, the only thing I can fault it for is its screen which isn't great. It's actually pretty bad but for the price and performance, I don't mind it too much. Its easy to switch it out anyway but you do void your warranty for the screen. For the temps, highest I've gotten on the CPU is 85 degrees but that's on the extreme side. GPU at highest temp keeps a cool 68 degrees. For regular usage, both of them stay well under 50 degrees.

this machine is very good value for the money.
mine is i5 with 1050 and SSD.

i was planing to replace panel because I have read "how awful it is". but to be honest - won't bother. is good enough ;)

hello. im at the moment thinking to buy new 15 7000 insp. , im gonna use it for cs go and other fps games ,but im a bit disappointed with pure 60 hz panel and 30ms rate. Is the offered 4k ips panel will be better for me ,and what is her rr (is it possible to push it to 75hz?) and ms is around 8 ?

Yes you should be able to overclock that LCD since it is a TN screen. The 4K probably not. But the 1080p TN should overclock at least to 75Hz. It may be possible to achieve around 100Hz.

    PM me for details.

Really interested in this laptop & it looks very good value for money.

Can anyone confirm if its possible to connect this laptop to an external 4K monitor @ 60Hz.

The HDMI on the laptop appears to be a 2.0 spec & I will need to get a suitable converter to use the display port connector on my monitor!!
