Yeah I see the struggle. When you lay your hands on a beauty like the XPS is difficult to switch to something else.

For a regular gamer maybe the Inspiron 7577 is better (cost less and it's definitely more powerful), but for a more occasional gamer the XPS is worth of its premium price (amazing screen, a whole kg (2.2 lbs) lighter, longer battery life, way better looking...)

Anyway, thanks for your very valuable reportings guys

Just pulled the trigger on the base model. A big thank you to custom90gt and TBoneSan for all your reporting and impressions. I'm not buying this as an equivalent to my GL702VM, but as a worthy successor to my 7559, so it should suit my needs perfectly.

Also with coupons etc. I was able to buy it for just over $1200 CAD or about $5 USD, so I'm happy.

Yeah if I had time to play games more often on the road it wouldn't be a tough question at all. Since my laptop is mostly used for school stuff it makes it a more difficult choice. I actually created a for sale post and listed them both to let someone else decide for me. Battery life btw between the small xps battery and the battery in this is the same.

Also if they had put a 17" screen into this laptop instead of a 15" without increasing the dimensions too much, it would be a keeper.

Hi, This is my first post on these forums. My 7577 was delivered yesterday straight from China (UK Spec, 7700HQ/1050Ti/16GB).

It does not have the red keys, they are white, without any colour trim and a white backlight - so less gamer and more business like. I prefer this and it was a nice surprise.

A few other observations I have that might be of use:

I have also purchased a TB16 TB3 dock. It's not 100% compatible, it won't charge or power on the 7577 but networking, USB and Display Port adaptors all work fine - hopefully Dell will fix the charging issue. I needed to go to the Dell support site for the TB16 and download the latest drivers, same for the 7577 TB3 for everything to be stable (random network and USB disconnects before that).

Geekbench4 puts the 7700HQ as about expected when running on a performance profile. ~4400 single-threaded and ~13000 multi-threaded. Temps seem pretty good and a -0.100v adjustment lowered them a little further. The 1050Ti doesn't seem to go over 60 degrees once the fans kick in - 1080p, High, NoAA on Unigine Valley averages around 80 FPS. I have not tried over-clocking yet.

Overall I'm quite impressed. It compares well with the other machines I have access to.

I don't think this is something dell will fix/could fix with an update. It sadly does not support USB-C charging.

Thanks for the heads-up. I suppose we can't expect everything on non-premium laptop. I expect it would probably breaks the TB power delievery specs when running the CPU and GPU at full whack. My 7577 came with a 130w power supply which hinted that power-delivery would be possible from a 240w TB16 especially with the hybrid powerload function that can help deal with excessive power requiremenst when under heavy load.

I've now found this googling around after your reply - Dell has put out a PDF to clarify what features are not supported with its docks and the 7577, there are some other features not supported as well: http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/inspiron-15-7577-laptop_user's guide_en-us.pdf

    Wow that's great news!
Keyboard back lights are necssary but I want them turned off when not in use.

So it is good to hear that there are no red trimmings in the keys. How about in the trackpad? Is there a hint of red there?

Hello..... Just read all your experiences with 7577, and looked promising. But it isn't gonna be available in my region anytime soon. Next week I m gonna pay a visit to US for a week, so it would have been nice if I bought it there.... Any chance of getting it in any store? Cause I think my stay period is way too short for Dell online shop delivery. Otherwise I might end up buying the 7567 for 900 usd :(

    Thanks in advance.

yeah, when i saw the internal of this laptop its very smiliar to alienware product especially alienware 13 r3 ( the 13 r3 has 3 heatpipes on 13'3 inch LOL) maybe if they going to GTX1060 reguler they will destroy alienware line ? but in my oppinion dell can go GTX 1060 for 7577 and alienware 13 can bump to GTX1070MQ, so they've very difference market.

ups.... did i mess the secret upcoming alienware product

wow its very nice temps, even on stock one, i think this laptop is very difficult to repaste, coz it require full disassembly right ? but wait, I saw your sale post on the market thread...
what happend ? did u sell this 7577 and want to upgrade to something else ??

Yeah you would have to take the motherboard out to repaste. More of a pain than I'd prefer to go through, but I will do it if I keep the laptop. I have the laptop posted for sale as well as my XPS. I am having a hard time deciding what to keep so I figure I'll keep the one that doesn't sell first, lol.

is it yours dell XPS 15 has the 4 lane thunderbolt 3 ?

I don't know if I am authorized to saying this, but in my opinion you should keep the dell 7577, it has more powerful GPU, significantly good thermal cooling compare to XPS 15 out of the factory box, and it has 4 lane thunderbolt 3 for external GPU if u need it in the future later, and for the screen, if u don't satisfied with stock IPS from factory, u can replace it with PLS screen (better than IPS) or maybe some 120hz panel ? it easy to replace the screen from dell 7567 and i think is the same with dell 7577.

here's the sample dell 7567 with PLS screen from the youtube :

maybe the cons was just missing subwofer, small battery capacity and the weight of laptop, but i think it's fair enough to trade with great cooling system, as long the weight is not like alienware 15 r3 LOL.

but i don't know the decision is still in your hands.

    Hey guys!

I've been reading some pages here, I owned an 7567, top specs, but at the time I purchased the SSD was a lame 256gb SATA, I'm focused on getting an 7577 with a 1060 and i5 (had too much trouble with i7 due to thermal/power throttling) a plus is that I won't need to replace screen as dell set IPS as standard and it now comes with a nice nvme drive.

Glad to see that the max-q is getting great results and there is almost no throttling!

Thanks for the link. Yeah I saw that a while ago. It helped make my mind up about this machine. These panels can be picked up under $100. That's well worth it even if it's TN. There is another model IPS out their (non LG one) that can be overclocked to around 90hz which would be another good candidate.
I'm not fussed about the changing brightness issue or most TN panels for that matter. The only thing I wouldn't mind doing down the road is swapping the red keyboard for a white one.

I'm finding most games with the 7300/1060maxq to be a good combo (except PUBG) for today's games.

I was suprised to see PC2 running nicely in the 100's on a mix of medium settings. Also F1 2017 running well above 80fps mostly on high maxing both the CPU and GPU at 99/100% in both instances.

It's not very future proof, but it's all BGA anyway and can't be upgraded. So future proof and BGA is somewhat an oxymoron right there. I don't think I'd shell out more than $1000 for a BGA machine. But I think it's a pretty good performer for the price. This will do me nicely while I work away.

The XPS only has 2 lane thunderbolt 3. I like both systems for their own reasons. The XPS is small and lightweight so it's easy to take to school/work. The 7577 runs super cool and is much better at playing games. My biggest hesitation with the 7577 is that I don't have a ton of time to play games and when I do I'd rather play on my 34" ultrawide desktop vs a 15.6" laptop screen...

The SSD that I got in my 7577 is a nvme samsung PM961 (not sure if that's always the case though). There is no throttling with this laptop, i haven't been able to get the temps above the 70's-80's.

Hi guys. I’m lurk around mostly but now have some question so decided to join.

Im thinking about going for the 7577 or Alienware 13 R3 IPS. Both have similar specs (specs I prioritise about) with an i7 7700HQ and 1060 6GB (with 7577 being a MaxQ). Pricing wise in my country it’s $1540 (7577) and $1492 (Alienware 13 with IPS). Unfortunately in my country the OLED option is no longer available.

I guess both will have similar performance (about a small hit for the MaxQ in 7577 but I’m not too concerned). So my considerations are down to display performance (which there seems to be no data on IPS on AW13), thermals, battery life and weight. For thermals assumed that if it can be open I will repaste with liquid metal. I guess a nice thing about 7577 is the keyboard, fingerprint scanner and not so gamery look.

I know this is a 7577 thread but I still want to know. Which will you go for if you’re presented with the 2 choices and why? Will also post at Alienware side with a similar question to see their thoughts there.

It depends on your priorities. If you need gaming performance the AW13 might have a bit more. But then do you really want to be gaming on a 13" screen? Personal preference.
I'd only get the AW13 if I was going to get a OLED and leverage it somehow.
I'm probably in a different category though. If I can't get 120hz display or mod a machine to have it - then it's a deal breaker.

did u guys have 7577 with core i5 right ? i want some oppinion from both side of you guys, due the unit you already have there. did u think with core i7 7700HQ will increase the temperature significantly compare to core i5 ? do you think with core i7 will it reach 80 degree celcius or more ??

and second question, what panel display that dell 7577 has? is it LG panel ? may i know the code LCD panel ?

The i7 will likely hit in the 80's and perhaps more considering my i5 hit's the low 70's when gaming. Undervolted it doesn't go above 65C when gaming however.
In terms of the monitor, I answered that question earlier "Monitor ID LGD053F, Manufacturer 4XK13_156WF6"

I had a similar thought too. And pros and cons of each then to cancel out the other. My thoughts are if the IPS on AW13R3 is better than 7577 then I’ll go for AW13R3. I know the screen is brighter by 50 nits on paper but that’s a minimal difference. So far I can’t find data on AW13 IPS unfortunately....

A funny thing for me is the 7577 is more expensive for a similar spec even down to 16gb RAM, 256GB+1TB storage. How difficult is it to repaste the 7577?

Edit: I read the service manual for 7577. It’s a full disassembly of the board.... that’s a heck more complicated.

How much less is the 7300 ? I will upload somemore benchmarks when I can. I am getting some really good results now I added in another stick of 8gb.
Repasting doesn't look too difficult, just a little more involved then I would have liked but it's not necessary for my spec.

Brightness isn't a big deal. If it's really bad you can tweak the gamma settings in the Nvidia control panel a little if you really need.

But if your heart is set on 7700HQ and you're fine with a 13" display the AW13 kind of represents better value if it costs less. My only fear is the novelty of having a good dose of power in a 13" unit would soon wear off and leave me disappointed having to use a 13" and forever stuck at 60hz.

Unfortunately in my country for the 7577, the i5 only comes with a 1050Ti and no option for a 1060. Hence my only choice was an i7 + 1060. It really did get me thinking about the 15” screen though as that’s a lot more screen real estate to play with. And I do like the fingerprint sensor and the less gamery look. Only kicker is the battery which shrunk but is supplemented with quick charge.

How about weight? On Dell website it’s 2.8kg+ while D2D review says its about 2.6kg. What is the weight for yours?

Hi, I have the i7 7700HQ. I've not yet noticed it going over 80degrees, but comes close. One thing for you to bear in mind - you can disable HT which reduces the stress on a fully loaded chip (as the cores will have times when no workload is assigned to them) and makes it perform like an i5 at similar speeds.

    I have tested this and used the 5 min stress-test in XTU and HWinfo to get some figures;

The 4 numbers are the max-temp for each core (0-3)
    HT Disabled no offset 76 72 74 74
    HT Disabled -0.165v offset 63 61 62 61

    HT enabled no offset 77 76 74 76
    HT enabled -0.165v offset 68 66 65 66

As you can see disabling HT and under-volting gets the temps right down; the fans didn't make any addtional noise.

120hz B156HTN05.2 120Hz 15.6 screen upgrade was a success. Very easy and took about 10 minutes. Colors are pretty impressive for a TN. Blacks aren't as deep as the previous IPS but not very far off. I'm quite chuffed.

Now.. does anyone know how to get the full Nvidia Control Panel instead of this limited one?

OMG that was very nice to see, is it LG panel ? any problem on software after that panel was installed ? like brightness cannot be adjusted from keyboard ?

and how much the rgb, sRGB and aRGB from that panel ?

and if you dont mind to upload video screen viewing angle with high color gamut wallpapers ?

Mine is the 1050Ti, the 1060MQ will likely be warmer - although the GPU has no bearing on temps from a CPU only stress test. My results indicate that regardless of the GPU, you can make the CPU run significantly cooler under load by disabling HT and under-volting - of course, with a performance loss to multi-threaded apps when you disable HT.

    Regards, BGL

Hello, my first post on this forum. I'am also interested in 7577 from the day it was announced! But as many of you I prefer white backlighting on my keyboard. Yesterday I went to my regional dell web site (EU Poland) and noticed that on advertising images 7577 has white key printings (and probaly white backlighting). So I went to chat with regional dell help desk and got information that if i order laptop from dell website it will have red key printings (red bl) but I can order white one directly from the dell chat! So any one interested in white key/bl should give helpdesk a call and find out if it is also possible in your region. Good luck!

I tried phoning Dell Customer Service to ask for a switch in keyboard colour (not that I'm really all that bothered, but I did like my 7559's keyboard lighting) and I was told once an order is in production it can't be changed and I ordered mine online.

Seems like bny_pl may be right; if you want to try getting the white keyboard, you may have to call in the order.

No, like custom90gt and TBoneSan I went with the base i5 7300HQ model. As this is not my primary gaming machine it should work fine for what I need and the i7 was over $300 more.

What tipped me over the edge and persuaded me to buy it was the sale they had last weekend in Canada on this model only.

This model seems just about perfectly matched for today's games. Actually I added in another 8gb stick of RAM and it did wonders too. The games that were CPU limited and also close to using the run 8gb got a big bump.

That's really good to know - I've got some RAM waiting to be installed as soon as my order arrives. I did think about the Helios 300, but this just seems to be a better all round machine and as you say, it'll game on 1080p just fine.

Looks like I'll be holding on to the XPS. Someone is supposed to come pick up the 7577 tomorrow. Pretty fun machine, wish it was just a touch smaller or had a 17" screen and I would keep it in a heartbeat...

Hello, fellow Italian here. Did you order the laptop directly from the Italian Dell website or you had to ask specifically for the white layout in a chat to an operator? Can you confirm me if the Italian version of the laptop has the fingerprint reader? How long did you have to wait to get the laptop from the moment you paid for it? (I'm moving to Germany soon and I'd need to know if I can get it before my leaving. The operators I spoke to in the chat where badly uninformed, they couldn't give me any answer)

Mine arrived on Friday i was really happy and hyped when i saw that my laptop was coming but man i was in for a surprise T__T!! right out of the box i heard some kind of coil whine / electric sound from inside the computer. The laptop was freezing when installing windows. After installing windows i tried to download the latest drivers from the Dell site. The internet was slow AF on my Dell laptop compared to my other laptops. After playing Overwatch for 2 hours i was hitting temps of 75C and the fans are LOUD AF! i also tried to browse for an hour the laptop freezes every 5 minutes. It seems to use 100% of the disk sometimes. So i am facing three mayor problems the coil whine, pretty hot tempatures and the constant freezing. This is pretty damn frustating after waiting 13 days for the damn laptop to arrive. Cant wait to call Dell on Monday to see what they will see the Netherlands is known for its cheap ways to fix laptops. I really wanna love this laptop but this is a very bad first experience T__T. I feel so sad now my life has no meaning....
