It's only the 7300HQ. Speakers aren't real great from what I've heard, but that's just been the annoying windows crap.

That stupid red keyboard is likely going to be the reason I'm gonna pass. This and the Acer Nitro 5, two very decent laptops completely ruined by horrible colors...

When you'll check temps again, please check the difference between cores. Also, how the screen build quality feels (is it solid? do you notice bleeding?) And does the keyboard get hot during loads?

Nitro 5 is an overheating mess. The red keyboard is the last of your worries with that one :)

As for the speakers, that's to be expected. The past 2 generations didn't invest much into speakers either.

Sorry I haven't been too active, trying to get caught up on the things I didn't get to do this week while working/studying.

    Some answer to questions:

    1. Battery life, I haven't done a whole lot but I did run PCMark8 without changing any setting from a stock windows install and it got 4h 15min. This is almost the exact same score as my XPS 9560 before making any power saving modifications to it as well:
    Battery life untuned.PNG

    2. The screen, this is always a subjective score. I really like the 1080P screen on my 9560 and this screen looks pretty decent but not as bright. If I wasn't running PC Mark tests on the laptop this morning I would look up the model for you guys. Here is a screenshot between the two with the brightness turned all the way up:
    20170930_074857.jpg

    3. The fans, some people are worried about fan noise from the 7577 and I can say that Dell really did a good job here. Not only did they do a good job with quiet fans, the cpu and gpu run cool. Running loops of 3D Mark Timespy the fans aren't very loud at all. You may know I returned my GS63VR due to crazy amounts of fan noise, this is not the case here. I'll try to get a video some time of it but probably not till tomorrow since if I don't spend time with the wife I may end up buried in a ditch somewhere...

    4. My laptop came with a 256GB PM961 SSD just in case you were wondering what SSD you may get in the low end laptop... Also here is a heat shield they applied to it (not sure how well it works):
    20170929_143932.jpg

    5. The keyboard/touchpad. These feel the same as my XPS although I haven't typed much on it. I have no complaints so far with either of them (the red is pretty lame, but what can you do).

Again sorry I've been so slow to get stuff posted, I really want to play, just don't have the time.

    Thank you, @custom90gt :)

Since you have both, how are the speakers compared to the xps? If you tried to watch a trailer on youtube or played a song, how would you rate them on a scale from 1 to 10?

One curiosity that I have, does the i5 model with no HDD included still have the connector that would allow one to be added later?

How has your experience been with the screen and the battery life of the laptop. Have you played any games and checked the temperatures. Also would be really cool if someone who has an egpu sets it up and checks how it runs.

2 heatpipes, same as the 7567. I really wish they had opted for 3 but alas, Dell didn't.

I cannot comment as to the egpu but the thermals are amazing on the laptop. The CPU never goes over 73 C and the gpu never exceeds 70. Currently I am playing PUBG on the laptop and on ultra settings I am sitting at ~65 fps. This might be increased by adding an extra stick of RAM since usage in game is pegged at 8gb.

As for the screen it seems pretty good. Definitely better than the predator Helios 300. The battery life seems to be pretty good overall. I am getting about 7 hours on productivity tasks with the dell power profile enabled. The quick charge works pretty well.

also the fingerprint power button works incredibly well. The entire laptop feels solid and premium compared to the 7567 which already felt pretty solid. I am very happy with my purchase.

    Some testing from overnight.
Prime95 for 8 hours at stock settings shows a max temp of 73C on the CPU and the CPU/GPU fans at ~3800rpm. At this level the fans are audible but not loud or annoying at all.
Prime95 with a 165mv undervolt for 10 hours shows a max temp of 67C with the cpu/gpu fans at ~2200rpm. With the undervolt, the fans are just about silent and you really have to listen for them.

You cannot charge the laptop with USB-C regardless of the adapter - dell power manager pops up and says charging is not supported with USB-C.

I can confirm the connector and bracket are there if you want to add a 2.5" drive to the system.

Quick charge is awesome, I've never had a laptop charge quite this fast.

With the current sale Dell has, the base model is a pretty damned good deal at about $900. Take a trip to Newegg to throw in another 8GB stick of RAM and a cheap 1TB SSD and you're good to go for about $1,200. Unless you really need a CPU with hyperthreading, the base 7577 might be the best value GTX 1060 laptop on the market. I can scarcely believe I'm writing that about something that uses Max-Q, but given its price and well-rounded nature (TB3, ethernet, 2x2 WiFi, etc.) this is a compelling package.

I tend to agree. From a personal standpoint I won't part with more than $1000 on essentially a disposable machine e.g. BGA CPU/GPU.
I needed something for a new role and that will chew through games at night and this was probably one of the better options in the market under $1000.
For the price they're a lot a machine there. Plus the screen is easily upgradable to 120hz.

Question: does anyone have the details on the 8gb ram stick it comes with?

Somebody said it uses the same LG IPS display that most of the 7567's ship with and that one doesn't even overclock to 65Hz. So if that's the case then the laptop won't overclock.

The AUO display on the old 7567 that some of the laptops shipped with (a small fraction) overclocked like a champ to 100Hz.

So check out the models and compare it with the info posted on the NBR display overclock megathread.

    Thanks for sharing the review!

To those you already have this lappy, I have one burning question:

Can you turn off the RED LED in the keyboard?
Will that completely remove the red colors then?

    Oh sorry 2 questions.

I'm hoping that friday I will be off of work at a relatively decent hour and I can play with the still new to me laptop. I'm thinking about taking it apart and repasting but I'll run some additional tests first. Is there anything specific you guys want me to try?

    1. Do you notice backlight bleeding or IPS glows when the screen goes fully black? If yes, how much?
    2. Do you notice any form of coil whine?
    3. How the speakers compare to the XPS15 and the 7567 (if you used that too)?
    4. In the video review we see the lid flex kindof a lot. In everyday use is it sturdy or we have to be extra-careful putting it in our bags?
    5. Does the trackpad use Windows Precision drivers? (because Dave Lee says that's what we want :p)
    6. Do you find it a good system for watching HD Netflix? (meaning: the overall audio/video quality is at least on par if not better than a good chromebook?)
    7. Are you completely happy about the purchase?

Of course, anyone with a 7577 in their hands can answer :)

    PS
Apparently the NVIDIA driver issue is being handled:

I'll answer these questions for you tomorrow. So far I haven't heard any coil whine. I think the speakers sound similar, but I'll queue up a movie or some music and test it out (both sound pretty terrible fyi).

I got mine yesterday. I haven't had too much time with it. Just setting up.
PUBG at stock got between 60-90 fps on the lowest settings, except high textures.
Ive since found the GPU can take a +200 MHz overclock easily so I'll do some real tests + revisit PUBG later. Additionally the game should benefit if you go dual channel on the memory.
I also tested Killing Floor 2 at max settings with a +200 OC and was surprised to see it getting triple digits in the fps.
The machine is a silent as heck but I've got a wimpy 7300 so that was expected. Clocks only hold at 3.1ghz on 4 cores and temps are in the low 60s max. I'm going to fiddle around with Throttlestop more to see what I can do, mainly because the CPU parks itself too much and it's not as snappy as I'd hoped. I think that can be mitigated at the expense of battery - but get to know Throttlestop gents and you can also have a battery profile too if you swing that way.
The screen unfortunately is a LG so OCing it is a waste of time. I've got a 120hz TN on the way which will hopefully also get rid of Optimus once installed. No backlight bleed on the LG panel, its fine and looks decent enough - just I can't do 60hz.

For under $1000 it's a pretty decent little unit and it's perfect for what I need. I wish it had a better bezel as I do with most modern laptops.
The palm rest is excellent and very nice to the touch in aluminum.
Dell didn't really need to go for max Q 1060 as there is so much overhead. Even with the OC it sits in the low 60s. So I'll just be having it start up every time with the OC and it's probably about as good as a stock laptop 1060.

The video review shows a noise of 47-48db while gaming. This (or this) was the fan noise from 7567 and should be around that 47-50db range.

If that's the case it's not so silent... Is your system behaving better?

Considering the low temps I don't think they're properly configured... Some redditors are also reporting that the fans are not only loud but they also stay on for 10-15 mins after you stopped playing games. No matter if temps are cool again earlier than that.

Let's hope a bios update improve things. BTW, Max-q was supposed to stay below the 40db level... I'd called it a 1050Ti(2). :D

Just gave it a fair test in PUBG. Yeah you do definitely hear them. In this example it's the CPU fan. The GPU doesn't really go beyond 60w and basically sits at 60 degrees. The 40db thing is with quiet mode enabled from what I've heard.

Anyway, the anemic 7300hq BGA can't really cut the mustard in PUBG. For this title the game is CPU limited rather than GPU limited. The machine runs perfectly cool. That's not to say the cooling is anything to brag about though. It's only got about 20w to deal with.

Strange you can't see the pics - it really tells the story. I can see them from my phone - have a try in a different browser if you can. I'll try and do that once I'm home for you.
Yeah it can totally handle a 1060. The CPU would be fine with a 7700HQ provided Dell managed to do a decent paste job.
A part of me wishes I got the 7700HQ only because PUBG hammers the 7300 and it's clearly the bottleneck, but for $300 more with a 1060 Max Q it's not worth it. I'd sooner get a Tornado 5 and be done with it. However, the 7577 handles everything else like a champ. Hopefully PUBG had some CPU optimization coming its way and I'll be super content.

So here is some temp logs playing witcher 3 on ultra settings (typically around 50-60 fps)...

First I played it completely stock and it ran great. The fans spun up, but they were anything but really loud, I was still comfortable gaming with the volume at ~25%. The max fan speed was 5400rpm:

Then I turned on my undervolt (-.165v) and overclocked the GPU by 200mhz on the core and 250mhz on the ram. Max fan speed was 4800rpm:

Over all it did great. The highest ambient temp was 74C. The GPU and CPU stayed at max clocks and I had no throttling.
