Bought one from bestbuy. For the price I could not complain. Just wish they put 1x8G instead of 2x4G.
Put in a 1TB laptop drive. I have a Seagate 2TB portable USB drive which has a Samsung inside, but it is too high. Looks like G7 accpets 8.5mm while Samsung/Seagate drive is 9.5mm. Maybe DELL could not squeeze 1mm space.
The screen is LG, that is beyond my control......

I have the G7 7588 and have been looking into upgrading my panel as well. I'm just trying to be very cautious, because I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to these more complex laptop upgrades. -

It's possible to change the panel with a better panel FHD IPS 60hz with full control of brightness?

This is a casual question for maybe first time user of dell laptop like me. my last laptop is asus a42j from 2010 and this G7 is replacement for me. some condition compare to my last laptop is quite shocking me. such as:
Do all dell laptop from 7577 to G7 have stuttering (delay Rclick/mouse movement/opening explorer)? why this happen? for gtx1060 and core i7-gen 8 its must be problem.
Fan running all the time and make some noise when playing game? and comeback silence after 10 minute game closed? is it normal? bcz this is first time i use semi gaming laptop so i don't know what is normal state of fan. bcz my last laptop only spining when the temp is hot and suddenly quite after several minute. but this g7 spining almost all the time when i lay game.
the screen on my g7 doesn't look natural, white color is too yellowist not bright or clear.. looking for replacement later.
kinda happy if anyone can answer my question.
i had read several forum, and i got different answer. bcz dell not so popular like asus/msi. -
Anybody experience flashing/blanking on their VGA connection? Yeah yeah who uses VGA these days lol...me, and my nasty monitors. This monitor and cable works fine on my Asus laptop (I use a VGA to HDMI adapter), but on the G7 it flashes every 2-3 seconds. I tried another VGA monitor and it does the same thing.
Video card is GTX 1060 Max Q -

I have a TB16, I know G7 cannot be powered through USBC/TB port, but I plan to use it as a dock. Unfortunately, TB16 is not compatible with G7. Too bad...

Hoping some of you can participate in this thread to add data points on a performance issue with the g7:

So I've been tooling around with the colors for the LG panel. Earlier I posted that I had the gamma maxed out because I'm a big newb. I ended up having Night Light mode enabled, and that was the biggest problem I was coming across.
Now I've been tooling around with the Intel Graphics Settings. Here are my current settings and I don't have any complaints with the colors (also I'm just a regular user. not a color expert)
Screen brightness: 75%
Intel Graphics Settings:
Brightness: 10
Contrast: 10
Hue: 0
Saturation: 25
Any pro tips about how you've optimized your LG display would be much appreciated! =D I hope this helps those who are also having difficulty with their display. -
I just installed a Samsung LTN156HL01 102 panel that I bought used on ebay from an ASUS laptop. Install was as straightforward as you'd expect. Color was a bit green by default, but a user here had uploaded colormunki calibrations from his MSI laptop using the same panel, and now it looks fantastic.

Fans staying spinning for 10 minutes after running a heavy load is pretty standard for the Dell gaming laptops. The fan profiles Dell has setup make generous use of the fans even when not necessarily needed.

Hi guys,
Around 2 months ago I bought Dell G7, i7-8750H CPU, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1060 6GB, 128 SDD + 1000 GB HDD. I just finished moving from my old MacBook to this PC, and I love some if its features - rendering speed, game quality, etc. But many times my new Dell is just too slow to do anything. e.g. using Adobe Illustrator and Autodesk Fusion 360 at the same time slows my machine so much that even the mouse cursor is moving at the speed around 1 fps (Even though no app uses a significant part of CPU/MEMORY/GPU). I've tried running driver updates, anti-malware and anti-virus check, Dell provided diagnostics. Everything is checking out fine. And it is still slowing down.
Also, once a week I had a BSOD: kmode exception not handled, failed tsmbco10x64.sys. Seemed it might be something with my drivers. Reinstalled all of them - no BSOD anymore. Now sometimes it's just freezing and must be reset. What else can I do to keep working with this new Dell?
Cheers! -

It appears to be driver related causing memory corruption based on the two threads linked below. I would start by uninstalling Smart Byte networking optimizer and go from there. In your case an SFC scan or clean install may help too.

Hello.
Laptop has a 30pin display connector. Is it possible to get a 4k uhd display for this connector? I searched Web and all I found was 120hz fhd screen but no uhd screen models with 30pin connection, for 7588 15.

My 7588 has very impressive temps under full load.
a Cinebench benchmark while running Tessmark nets around 70c GPU temps (running at 1680mhz) and the CPU at 85c running at 3.6-7Ghz. Reviews claimed the fans were loud but they are not at all. They ramp up and down quickly and in a smooth manner and within a matter of 5 seconds of no load temps are back in the 40s and fans are off. I prefer that
Anybody have any questions -
In the light of this machine having trouble with XMP enabled memory. I have this kit in my G7 and it works great.

My CPU throttles to .8 GHz, after undervolting and removing the battery and plugging it back, it reaches to 1.45Ghz max but still not anywhere close to what it should be.
I have seen multiple post regarding this issue, this G7 is completely unusable when on battery for me. Any fix? -
Ok guys, been awhile since I’ve been here - been awhile since I owned a notebook. So I received my White G7 the beginning of this week. The first thing I noticed was this shreak of the plastic when opening the screen. Like cheap plastic flexing sounds. I scrutinized it and it seemed to be coming from where the bezels meet or attach to the LCD.
So I called Dell for a replacement, and it did the same thing - also it had a ticking fan, so I sent that one back. I kept the original BUT I just want to hear from some of you guys if this squeaking and plastic bend sound is normal? Makes me want to return it and wait for the Alienware m15. -
Warning.
I occasionally browse r/dell, some people report that with the 1.4/1.4.1/1.5 version of the Bios for the Dells G5/7, fan control has been "tuned" for the laptop to be more silent. The result is temperatures upwards of 90C even on lighter loads and undervolted CPUs. It appears that the Bios cannot be rolled back and manual fan control has been disabled.
I haven't tried to confirm the news, but if you feel cautious, DO NOT UPGRADE. -
Hi all,
I'm asking dell to add in next BIOS release for all G-Series laptops (G3/G5/G7) the same thermal management system as XPS line with several cooling and processor performance options, this might help us to keep better control of thermals and fan operation (Cool, Quiet, Balanced and High Performance) as there is no way as it is to control it, I updated my G3 to bios 1.4.0 and fans were crazy, had to come back to 1.3.0 to get it working properly.
If you support this idea, please leave your Kudos/Likes there to show them that there are more people interested, the more people we get involved better our odds to make it happen! (it takes around 1-2 minutes to make the registration and like the link below).

Ok after the clean WIN install my G7 now works much better. Without DELL provided bloatware it runs much faster! I've replaced my 128GB m.2 SSD to 512GB - now all soft and files can be there, no slow HDD needed anymore
But what is the deal with running on battery? It slows so much when unplugged. How can I get the same performance on battery as plugged? In advanced power settings all the same for On battery and Plugged in... -
Hi,
Has anyone tried or is willing to roll the dice on Chi-Mei (Innolux) N156HCE-GA2
Its 120Hz FHD IPS panel. I'm interested if brightness control works.
http://www.panelook.com/N156HCE-GA2_Innolux_15.6_LCM_overview_30978.html -
Has anyone tried installing an m.2 SATA SSD with a capacity higher than 256 GB? The manual says it only supports 128 GB m.2 SATA SSDs.
-
You can install as big an SSD as you can find. -

I've seen posts that choosing the default DELL power plan solves performcane on battery problem. Can someone try this? I don't have this laptop but I'm planning to get the new version.
Some people also mentioned GPU throttling above 74 C instead of 78 C if BIOS above 1.3 is used. Can someone with newer BIOS test this? -
I purchased this laptop around July of last year, and I've installed this panel today.
https://www.amazon.com/Screen-Display-N156HHE-GA1-7RG-078US-Leopard/dp/B07CWSWX4Q
The colors are so much better and the brightness is excellent! All function keys can be utilized too. I do not regret this upgrade one bit!
Only complaint that I have is that I can't figure out why my games aren't pushing past 60fps when I am clearly running 120hz. Does anyone know if the GTX 1060 Max-Q design is limiting fps?
If anyone has experienced this, help would be greatly appreciated! -
Yes.
Depending on the game you won’t see over 120FPS in most modern games without cranking the details down or lowering resolution. -
That's so weird, because I have my FPS set to cap at 120fps in game, vsync off, and it caps off at a steady 60fps no matter what my the graphic settings are. I'd think I could get over 60fps in Overwatch on low settings.
-
Do you have the power plan set to max performance in the Nvidia control panel?
-
I figured it out. Under the 3D settings I set it to Let the 3D application decide my settings. Now I am able to adjust my fps cap. Thanks for the support IKAS V.

My laptop is a Dell G7 15, i7-8750h, gtx 1060 gddr5 6gb, 16gb ram. I have an throttling problem (i think) when it comes to gaming. I have throttle stop installed and when i play the game (Destiny 2) it works fine at a locked 60fps due to the 60hz screen (i hate screen tear so i locked the fps to 60). After some time the frames will drop significantly to around the 30 frames and rocket back up to a stable 60. Give it more time and it makes crazy dips to 2 frames per second, making the game unplayable and its at the lowest possible graphics settings too. When this happened i made sure to have CPUID monitor up to check out what was happening. My CPU is usually hovering around 3889Mhz but when i checked it when my game was hitting 2 fps, the cpu across all cores was around 800Mhz. Also, this showed up in throttle stop and i have no idea what any of it means (Imgur link to picture: https://imgur.com/00robrJ ). The PROCHOT 98 degrees also keeps re enabling itself when i un check mark it. I also linked the images of my throttlestop settings below. Im not sure what half of the settings really do either even after re reading the throttlestop guide several times. If anyone can help me, please do!!
