Yeh but those places are based in the USA, and by the time customs gets their hands on it, and shipping costs, you might be getting close to the 80.00 that dell quoted me. also if something goes wrong, you need to ship back, then you dont have a keyboard. ect..

I may look for a sweedish one as it seems they have the UK pound symbol.

The third one there is uklaptops.com. I'm pretty sure they're UK based.

It would cost me €80 incl. shipping to Ireland according to what they told me. £63.20ish. And shipping is probably less for you.

    Edit: Never mind then

    Thanks so much KSMB.

here is the thing.......i think you can order a RYYj1 backlit keyboard of your DELL support guy in Great Britain.

you know why ???? when i bought this keyboard...it was shipped from Ireland...you know why ????
before (as some people know) DELL manufactured DELL PCs in Ireland.......they closed it and now its Poland and China....but they seems have a inventory space left in Ireland.

here you have tons of links: (but its cheaper to buy direct from DELL Sweden...Swedish Kronor is strong right now)...cost about £50.

It's been two days now that the order of my 7720 was confirmed...
The order status on Dell's site still shows nothing :(

    Anyone else with this problem?

    Hi everyone,

For those of you looking for 17R SE backlit keyboard, I ordered one for less than GBP15.00, including free worldwide shipping:

DELL NEW Inspiron 17R N7110 BLACK FRAME GRAY(Backlit) LA Latin Keyboard | eBay

It says 'LA Latin' but the key layout is pretty much the same as US English (it's easy to remap keys wherever you want with sharpkeys).

    Hope this helps,
    Tsai

    @KSMB,
My current laptop is a medion with an i3-330M, and Intel HD Graphics.
When surfing the internet, it's fast enough, but when I open cod4, it's slightly too weak (~25fps).

I'm expecting a lot better from the 7720.
Oh yeah, I bought the non-3D version with an i7, 750GB and 6GB ram. :)

    Have you ordered one?
Dont know why they could not take an actual photo either.
I would like the Grey 3750 but looks like that is not possible, as cannot find swedish one either, so this may be the only option.

I just ordered mine and have a few questions that I may have skipped in this long thread.
    1. Does the laptop come with a secondary caddy. (If not can someone recommend a place to buy said caddy)
    2. I see a lot of posts saying "do not buy the 9cell ebay batteries" Can anyone recommend where I should buy a 9 Cell battery from, and their take on the 9 cell in terms of time.
    3. Does anyone find themselves bumping the non-slot loading drive and are there any recommendations of what to get to replace that.

I'm on the fence with my purchase. I have a quote for the 17R SE 3D display setup. After selling the gift card, I could have this setup for around $1,000. The one thing holding me back is that my Studio 1747 has an B+RG display, and it seems like moving to the WLED would be a downgrade. The display is a very important feature, as I mainly use my computers for photo editing. What to do, what to do? Opinions, anyone?

well, you misunderstand a bit here................the 3D (sec5044) True life screen is NOT a ordinary WLED screen.

the truth is that this 3D screen is just slightly below my RGBled screen in colour gamut (there is reviews you can read about this screen which sits in 7720, Alienware M17x and some other PCs as well.

you will be extremely satisfied with this screen.........probably the best TN screen on the market right now.

ive listen to quite many laptops with JBL sound and i can tell you one thing...the scull speakers is more powerful (you have higher, cleaner sound with 7720). im not saying JBL sound quality is worse. its probably the same...but 7720 has higher, stronger sound.

you can hear it here (also remember this is outdoor, which is not ideal for sound...........sound test start at 1:30

Notebookcheck has tested this panel in a different laptop and it was indeed excellent, although definitely not suitable for brighter environments:

    Review Toshiba Qosmio X770-11C 3D Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

Not sure about your current RGB display. Try looking it up and compare. I would personally go for matte panel (CMO) that is quite a bit brighter, but has slightly smaller colour spectrum coverage:

Review Dell Inspiron 17R-SE-7720 Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

They appear to be very similar in other respects. Unfortunately, you will not be able to use it as a shaving mirror ;-)

well......i can you tell one thing........this 3D sec5044 screen has some new half matt / half glossy coating..........its no issues at all sitting with the sun shining throw your room.
(you cant compare an older Toshiba screen against brand new 7720...same panels, but different coatings...the Toshiba have a more glossy coating.....thats a fact).

here is my 3D 7720 in full daylight....

here is the Toshiba (about same angle).....the different is so BIG its nearly silly...(two totally different coatings)

Since this is not a controlled environment (different lighting conditions and background), you can't compare screens like that. I have seen your video on YT and reflections on the panel are quite pronounced. Perhaps they are not as bad as Toshiba (which are horrendous), but still distracting. Occasionally I do some photo editing in various lighting conditions and matte screen is a must.

I actually prefer glossy screens, as they offer a higher contrast ratio. The screen on my Studio 1747 is glossy, and it doesn't bother me at all. I regularly use my laptop in a darker, controlled-lit environment while photo editing. Being a professional photographer, I can't settle for a lower color gamut display. The thing I already disklike about this design are speakers mounted on the base of the laptop. Seems kinda silly to have even the mains down-firing.

According to NBC, the contrast is virtually the same for glossy and AR coated panels in 7720, a tad over 700:1. They are both outstanding screens, well above typical 200:1 or so.

As long as the laptop sits on hard surface it's fine. Moreover, you can close the lid and it won't make a difference.

DELL have looking back on inspiron 9400/m1710 and put the speakers in the front......thats the absolutely best way for speakers.................ex, on XPS 17 you lay your hand right on the speaker and hid the sound...i like 7720 place much better.

Speaker placement is utter fail. You partially cover it just by typing/using the wristrest of the computer.

Not to mention listening to music with computer while in your bed, not gonna hear much!

Speakers/speaker placement is for me the weakest part of the laoptop.

Also music distorts/causes vibration in the chassis which again makes distortion if volume is above 50%.

Still the sound quality is above average, as long as you keep volume below 50%. But it's far away from Asus N56 seris and samsung 700Z7C speaker quality.

From what I've read, you'd be much better off getting a regular SSD. Data read/write speeds would be MUCH faster, especially if you go with a Samsung 830 Series drive.

I've read that it's the mSATA port itself that would be the bottleneck, and wouldn't support speeds anywhere near as fast as those you just mentioned.

cant understand why anyone in the world would buy a small, expensive SSD and replace the main HD...........the benefits vs money is silly.

the only time i would replaced my way bigger, still fast harddrive is IF i did a LOT of data transmission.....but come on, who works mostly with that..2% of all people maybe............SSD is just a flue.

no benefits in 99% of all games
    no benefits in web browsing
no benefits watching movies, listen to music..............its just a gadget.

I just realized this computer has an Alps touchpad; those things are garbage compared to Synaptics. That's the deal breaker for me. I'll be canceling my order tomorrow, so keep an eye on the Dell outlet.
