I am having a similar problem, OC won't help it because gt650m refuse to activate itself at certain game or mods. No idea how to solve it

he can play games with it.......just put a block of ice under the laptop and you will be fine :)

serious..........let the core run at 935Mhz instead if you want 4XMSAA instead of 0XMSAA in BF3 (or Skyrim or whatever you play)

"The game" is to see how far I can push it, for gaming I'll stick to default clocks, the gain is not huge enough in fps to really make games more playable, not those I play at least.

I have an desktop for gaming with i7 @ 4.6GHz/GTX680 so the laptop is just when I don't have access to the desktop.

Btw, been playing guild wars 2 the whole day, not much time to fiddle around with the laptop. ;)

if i had a "gaming" desktop i would never buy a big 17" gaming notebook.............i would go for a Macbook Air ..or might a Ipad.

something small & really light/thin but with awesome screen/cpu/wifi............................but thats just me :)

ps...the only way i would had a gaming notebook (if i had a gaming desktop) was if i was going to a lot of LAN-gaming-meetings.

I'm intending to buy this laptop, but like you all know there's no gigabit ethernetport. I don't know if this is a huge disadvantage while playing BF3 MP, or will it just make difference while downloading files?

Your Internet connection is certainly slower than the 100mbps port (and latency on a Fast Ethernet port is still excellent)... So no, multiplayer gaming is great. (I know this from tons of MW3 MP on this machine - let's not get into a MW3/BF3 debate :D )

It does make a (big) difference when transferring files from one machine on the same network to another. But not to Internet access. So even downloading files from the Internet is the same speed as my other Gigabit-port machines.

I highly doubt your int. connection is more than 100mbps so it should be fine. :D

i play bf3 online 3-4h every day.....no issues at all.................(and i play with a mobile broadband.....its a Huwaie E372 with dual-bridge so yes it have better PING & band-widht then most mobile broadband...

i also play bf3 sometimes with real broadband (10Mbit)...........no issues at all.

float in BF3 (if we just talking about internet).is 2 things.........right server with best PING and decent band-widht.

With the Intel i5 the graphics card is 90 watt.
With the Intel i7 the graphics card is 130 watt.

    Why is this?

    Error on Dell site.

It means that with i5 you get 90Watt PSU with the computer, with i7 you get 130Watt PSU included.

    GPU is the same.

So I got the laptop on Saturday, overall very happy with it.

    Just some comments:

    1. Heavier than expected dont plan on taking it anywhere
    2. Screen is great but not as great as I was expecting, lacked a certain WOW factor I was expecting
    3. mSATA works well boots fast
    4. Tried editing a video on it using the out of box Elements 9 and for some reason it ran very slow when processing the video, not sure why.
    5. Keyboard, body is well built, all good in this area, no issue with space bar.

Overall everything is fine, its a great machine, just was expecting the screen to have a bigger wow factor than it has.

well, you have 14 days replacing warranty..........replace to a 3D True life screen 7720 then. (cost you about £200 i guess)..........then you have one of the best TN screens on the laptop-market now.

I have the true life screen already. It is good, but I was expecting more in terms of the sharpness and detail based on reviews online. I am not saying it is bad, but not sure if it is worth going for top model. The top model does have other benefits like dual hard drives and msata which is what I got it for mainly. I see 3D as a gimmick, and will probably never use the glasses, I needed the best screen for photo editing, and it will be fine for this but I do find it seems to be over saturated and not as sharp as I would expect from the 'best screen out there'.

That's the thing with glossy screens, they have more of the "wow factor! without actually being better. After some time you will love the fact that it's matte, contrast/black levels are about same for matte the glossy 3d screens, maybe with a minor win for the glossy screen.

edit: nevermind, you already got the 3d model :p

im extremely happy with my 3D SEC5040 screen.....honestly i havnt seen any brighter, more colourful TN screen (remember i said TN screen)...IPS(RGBled/Retina) is another story

ps...the blackness is also extremely good for a TN screen...TN can sometimes show some grey/black nuance instead of plain black.

    Hi everybody!
I ordered my 7720 last week, hopefully it's gonna arrive this week.
I have a question about the hard drive: if i want to put in 2nd hard drive, i have to order some kit or something to put it in?
Or there is everything inside and i can put it in easily without any problem?

    Thanx in advance

I have this screen as well; I believe it is indeed the Samsung unit. Mine's gloss; also the TrueLife. I've almost never seen a better laptop screen (certainly not a TN one, at least)...

I'm happy that you're not having issues with your keyboard: maybe the issue is with the backlit ones only? (Someone mentioned that Dell had cited 'technical' issues with the Backlit keyboard, here)... wonder if that's true!

yes its Samsung........lately, i believe Samsung make the best 17" True life screens....(some years ago i preferred LG Philip True life.....but Samsung have clearly step it up in quality)

    SEC = samsung
    LG = LG philip
    AUO = AU optronics

You need 4 very small screws to fit the HDD to the HDD frame which is already included. That's all.

Luckily I found 4 that fit in my toolbox with old PC parts and accessories.

Have been costing up these three version's of the Inspiron 17R SE (all with 1yr Accidental damage protection)
And i can see the benefit of upgrading from system A to system B a difference of £85.94
But cant see the justification of upgrading to Option C (from A £536.49 for from B £450.55)

I mainly play stuff like MMO's (LOTRO etc..) Cant use 3D as i wear glasses.

Anyone able to justify the cost of the 3D Truelife Screen

    System A
    I5 Processor
    6GB Memory
    1Tb 5400 HD
    Full HD Screen
    Cost £746.92
    Discounted via work to £671.90

    System B
    I7 Processor
    6GB Memory
    750Gb 7200 HD
    Free Printer
    Full HD Screen
    Cost £937.63
    Discounted via work to £757.84

    Syctem C
    I7 Processor
    8GB Memory
    2 x 750Gb HD
    3D Truelife Screen
Backlit Keyboard (only offered on this Model)
    Cost £1247.86
    Discounted via work to £1008.39

man......what is £200 if you going to have your laptop for years.........think future-proof ! (then is £200 not that much)

BIG YES for i7 + True life. why ?........1. 130W ac adapter...........2. 6MB L-cache (you got more working power)..........3.stronger/faster...............4.some apps need i7 to run more smooth..........5. higher colour gamut & sharpness/brightness.

sorry got my calcs wrong, yep 250.
Still finding it hard to justify that sort of cash increase as one of the drives will be removed for SSD extra memory always ok but i was going to put in 16GB anyway, and i use a ps3 for bluerays.
    I could always use a Monitor :p

Dont buy a i7 + gt650 rig with a 90w adapter. It will lag and overheat your pa-10 adapter in no time

    @tinolan....
for 200 extra you get one of the best TN screens on the market, 2 x 7200rpm HDs, a very good, high-end bluray drive. Thats pretty cheap i guess

Not trying to minimize the importance of a 3d screen, but I had my Asus G53jw with a 3d screen for almost 20 months and I've seen exactly one 3d movie on it and only because it was a novelty (the xxx 3d parody after Avatar :D). Also played a total of less than 50 hours worth of 3d gaming on it (Avatar and Far Cry 2)
Nothing can beat watching a 3d movie in a theater - at least for me

Just got my order confirmation today...ordered on Friday last. Estimated delivery is 7th September at the moment (it was originally September 4th) and it's currently in pre-production. For everyone else, how long did each step take? Just so I don't keep bashing refresh every 5 minutes expecting it to change to shipped

It's in preproduction now. Do you think it will take another 9 days before I get it?

Edit: My continuous refreshing of the page has paid off and it's now in production! :D

    Hi everybody!

Please help me to decide what to choose!!!!

    1. Stay with Inspiron 17R SE (i7, 8 GB, 1TB) with all known gpu boost issue, that annoys me unspeakable
or maybe return deel to shop (10 days return with no required reason) and replace with
    2. Asus N76VZ-V2G-T1033X (Full HD, 8GB)
    3. Asus N76VZ-V2G-T5111V (HD+, 8GB)

Hymmm. Im starting to get a bit tired of this. Can you play ex, crysis 2 in 1080p with ok fps with your 7720 ?

If yes then your 7720 performs as it should.
