how much battery power do you think can i get out of this machine at the maximum with the 9-cell ??? let's say for taking notes in class and occassional wifi...
would anyone change the configuration ? add something, remove something, change something ?
let me know what you think !!!
btw with, or without bluetooth ? is it worth it? I mean i do not really think I need it and you can always buy an USB bluetooth modul... -
hmm...i guess it depends on what you plan on doing with it. for my purposes, everything i'm getting will suit me well. although i heard that the integrated sound blaster audigy is just extra software...i dunno exactly.
-
hey 1420 owners, let's keep this thread alive please, because soon I am going to be one of you, and I am really looking forward to it
-
how soon? mine should be coming on tuesday at the latest....
-
I have had mine since November and it's my first laptop. I love it and the only thing I could hope for is a 14.1" XPS model in the future as this size of screen is by far the best fit for my lifestyle.
-
I momentarily have 4 important questions though, I'd appreciate it very much to have them answered:
1. is the $50 upgrade from 2gb of ram to 3gb of ram worth it?
2. is there a place somewhere, let's say on the internet where to buy the 9-cell battery for the inspiron 1420 cheaper than for the $169 on Dell??? It sure would be more convenient, to get the 6-cell for $0 added and then buy the 9-cell somewhere else, cheaper, and save some money... I didn't find it anywhere though... not on ebay, not on google...
3. it says that when you order the Alpine White color, the order will be delayed... how much delayed do you think could it be? not like a week or a month right?
4. how does travelling with the 1420 look like ? let's say taking it to school for taking notes everyday... is that fine? how much battery life do you get on let's sayschool work? like taking notes, surfing the web a bit, medium brightness... (with the 9-cell)
thanks for your answers ! -
hmm...
1)i upgraded to 3gb. i don't think it's that big of a deal, especially now since it's $50 or something per gb. if you use a coupon, you'll save a ton of money anyways.
2)my guess would be ebay...but it looked like you already checked there
3)chances are if it says it's delayed, they need to be resupplied, and nobody knows how long that could take except for them...maybe call dell and ask?
4)i've read a ton of reviews about this notebook, and almost all of them said if you want decent battery power, go with the 9cell. you might have to endure some extra weight on your way to class, but at least you won't be searching for a wall outlet (although chances are if you're in college, you won't have to look far...but then you have to wait for it to charge i guess...) -
ok... anyone else has any thoughts about my questions?
-
hey 1420 users wake up
is the t7250 to t8300 upgrade worth the $75???
i've read that the t8300 is low-voltage so it could give more battery power on it? -
Just ordered this on April 13th.
But estimated shipdate is 5/05/2008 -
congrats!
and don't worry, after ordering mine, it took 3 days to ship, and 4 days to arrive.my estimated shipdate and delivery date were also long, but it'll come sooner than you think -
tissle: i think that our problem is the tv tuner... when you are configuring the laptop, click on the "This item may delay your shipment" or something like that right next to the part and you will see how much longer it takes them to ship it to you because of that particular item...
so i think i will go for the t8300 since it is low heat and low voltage, 3gb ram because i think that vista 32bit can't really use more (i am not sure) and 6 cell battery, while i'll buy a 9-cell on ebay way cheaper than on dell
and it comes up for something less than $1100 with shipping, recycling fees and taxes included !!! -
But all is good.
My laptop was shipped today.

am I going to be able to use this lcd screen with it? Samsung SyncMaster 940BF - LCD 19"
it has a DVI and VGA connection possibility? what do I have to get to be able to use it? is DVI going to work ?
what do you think about the price I got and the configuration? -

mine's in my specs. it is flawless. the only problem I have with it is the charge time. coming from an acer that have a 8 cell batt charge in less than 2 hours, this dell takes forever to get a full charge (4 hours last time I checked!).
other than that, it is a great computer! -
config is awesome. similar to mine, except for the processor, screen res, and hd, but all in all, this laptop is amazing! i'm typing on it right now and everything is perfect. the only thing i can think of that bugs me is some of the keys seem to be raised higher than others, but i guess it could be some illusion.

sounds exciting !!! I can't wait for my lappy to arrive ...

Can anyone confirm how many RAM module slots there are? I was wondering if I can add a stick of 1GB RAM to the already installed 2x 1GB sticks.
Thanks! -
I replaced 2x512 with 2x1g as soon as I got my 1420.
Purchased from Newegg. Memory is very accessible on this laptop. -
So there are ONLY 2 RAM slots? Damn it...
-
if you want three gigs of ram, you could always buy a 2gig module...
