Wow.. at least you've been compensated for your troubles. Although yours have been far worse than mine (my order has never been cancelled thankfully), the reps have all been rude to me on the phone and haven't listened to anything I've said (and I'm polite on the phone). When this whole ordeal is done and I've got my laptop, I'm definitely going to be chronicling my dealings with their reps and writing Dell a letter, which will be CCed to The Consumerist.

It's sad because this is my third laptop with Dell but I get the feeling that they don't value me as a customer.

Yes that system concerns me...the exchange system now though has a date of delivery of 24 July.

I have to wonder if it really is in the production process because, unlike this system, the production date doesnt change. The date of production for that system remains on 16 Jul 07.

May be false hope but...hope it is.

That's all pretty scary. I better order mine soon. Try to get some freebies soon. This is what happens when Dell pushes out a product pre-maturely.

    !!!

I just looked at the status under the "My Account" page and saw that my order has been cancelled!!! Earlier in the week, it showed my laptop as in production a day before the email link did!!!

    !!!!!!!!!! I'm calling Dell now. :'(

Well he wasn't specific, nor was he entirely pleasant, but after waiting on hold for a while, he told me there is a problem with the m1330 orders and that they have cancelled a bunch of them and are in the process of re-ordering them.

He assured me that I will get a confirmation email by tomorrow and that my laptop will still arrive at the same time. Just to confirm with him, I made sure that that "same time" was still on track to be the first week of August.

What I'd like to know is how a supposedly "in production" laptop gets cancelled while it's being built. Clearly it wasn't being build.

I've really had enough with this. lol

Your order will not be on the same date. I fought and fought over this but they have absolutely no control over the shipping date. When the new order is placed, the date is generated and that is it.

I was contacted today regarding my cancellation yesterday after I put a 5 page letter in. My issues are being ironed out as I have been through 12 order numbers and 3 dates on this same system.

One rep told me she believes it has to do with the 5589 sku for the LED where it should say 5583.

I wish you luck... There is lots going on in the background regarding my circumstance which I cant discuss yet but I will PM you if somethin comes up to get priority ordering or dates reenstated.

    :(

I will definitely be calling back if the generated date is later than what it is now, even though the one it is at now is actually different than what the my rep has sworn it will arrive. Also, if it doesn't arrive by the time he said it will, I will DEFINITELY be very, very angry.

I really need this laptop before the end of August because I'm moving to another province for eight months. I'd like to have it before then so I can get things sorted. Ugh. I will never order anything from Dell at launch ever again because of this.

You have the 5591 which is similar to the 5589 sku.

I spent two hours with tech support regarding this sku and that one and noone knows exactly what they stand for. We know that the value of both sku's is 48.69Cdn which is considerably below the cost of the LED. It seems also to be worse with online orders.

The belief that the tech seem to put forward is the skus 5589 and 5591 only account for the camera and the sku 5583 should also be in the order. Because the computer has them acknowledged as slim and light camera with LCD, they seem to get kicked back at production....because the 5583 (LED) or 5585(LCD) camera is not listed.

I do know this...if it hits the production table and one part is not accounted for, it is simply rejected and cancelled.

I dont know if all this helps you at all but I will pass on anything I learn in my conversation tomorrow.

Oh and the Rep may be partially right. My new date is sep 3 on my system but I was told it will still arrive with the first shipment to Canada. This is still slated, believe it or not, for shipment as a whole at the end of this month....if that doesnt get delayed.

This is why so many have been told of earlier ship dates...

All in all you must remember though....not one person has received one system as of yet nor can claim it has been shipped.

I would recommend something else for you though!!! Call and get them to send you a quote that, at least matches, the system and price they just cancelled. Each and every time i refused to get off the phone till I got a quote or new number which appeared in the "My Account" section.

    Im gonna PM you...

Im gonna do this and hopefully it can help all without screwing me...

I received a call from Exec Support today and have a phone call set up for tomorrow to explain the 5 page letter I wrote. The man I spoke with is very high up in the company (Canada) and answers the letters that find their way through legal means or BBB.

For the Canadians with cancellations there seem to be common threads relating to each...

    1. Canadian
    2. Ordered Online India
    3. Mystery Coupon Event Redemption
    4. Initial order reflected LED of sku 5583
    5. Later confirmation changed sku to 5589 or 5591.
    6. Cancel going into production.

Having spoken to Tech support, the common thread is that 5583 has to be on the order yet these orders do not have them. (The 5589/5591 part only has a value of 48bucks so maybe the camera identified wrong)

I have my 12 cancelled orders and the order number now of another here who c an speak up for verification if he likes.

I intend to go into the conversation demonstrating that there is a problem common to all these orders.

If you want to include your order, which is a cancelled order number, pm me and i will put it in the list and include it in the conversation for him to check into the reasoning.

I cant use the cancelled orders for any reason as I cant look them up in any way...but he can.

Its up to you in the end...be included in my efforts or not.

Lets all hope the best here.

Here's something interesting... I was just customising a laptop on dell.ca to be like the one I'll be getting just to see if anything has changed.. it seems the Bluetooth module is finally down to $20, instead of the obscene $80 I paid for it. That's a $60 savings and my order isn't even built yet. Methinks I'll be calling Dell once they finally give me my new order number.

Well im glad that my order says 5583, so hopefully there will be no cancelattions!

I really wish that Dell would just give a statment on the state of all out laptops. I bet it is because they actually launched this product knowing there would be not enough supply.

I'm with you Nukey. I wouldn't be as mad if I got A SINGLE apology from ANYONE. I've not heard the words "sorry" anywhere, nor have I received a single email since my order confirmation, which I actually only got once I called a rep to question him about where my order confirmation was. lol

So I decided to call up the rep again, since he promised I'd have my new order number tonight. He told me I'd have it by Monday, so I guess there are more delays than he original thought.

The funny thing is he guessed my order number incorrectly and thought my name was Phillip before I even gave him my info. I guess some guy named Phillip calls him a lot... lol.

Just another update about the bluetooth (I'm surprised nobody else wants $60 back...)... I talked to my rep via email. He said he's going to update the order with the new price. My order hasn't been put through yet, so I don't know if he's actually going to do it but he said he would, so it's worth a try. If you paid $80 for bluetooth, call them up and get your money back!!

I ordered the LED and I think I have the bad order number too, but they haven't cancelled on me. It says I'm in production and its going through Dell's Order Management System. Order July 6.

So I be worried about it being cancelled? Will my Mystery Coupon discount (50%) be gone if they do cancel?

I don't think you need to worry too much. My order went into building and just this morning the testing stage and I have the LED part number 5591. I initially had 5583 when i ordered and received my acknowledgment email, but my order status page shows 5591. So I think you will be okay.

Okay so my rep just emailed me with my new order number. It's in pre-production. But here's the trick. He said the hold up was with bluetooth, so he just took bluetooth out and reordered it. He made no mention of sending me the bluetooth module later. I want my laptop soon and all but I don't want it without parts that I ordered! Lol. I emailed him back to see what can be done.

Oh, I'm quite sure I can install it myself but I don't want to pay extra for something that should have came installed with my order. At the very least, they should ship it separately to me if they can't get it to me on time with the original order.

I just received my call. The Rep suggested that I remove the Bluetooth module from my initial order to speed up the process. She wouldn't confirm a ship date but she only said the 2nd week of Aug.

I also just received the e-mail for my new order sans the Bluetooth module. I will have to wait till tomorrow to see what the est ship time they have on their system.

Its missing as an option as they havent figured out the software issue as of yet; the Cdn BT sku bounces systems at the build process.

It is expected to be fixed in a day or so but until, they remove it so purchases go through if one wishes to buy without.

As of yesterday....every Cdn order with BT was stopped/held up until they sort out the BT situation. I received an email today from Exec confirming this.

That could be because you ordered before the sku issue relating to the LED was fixed. I am told the LED issue was fixed later this afternoon.

Personally, if you want BT and LED...I would wait a few days, or, if you had an earlier order cancelled.

I haven't really followed the LED or SKU issues closely but I am sure that I can call and get it corrected. I have 6 weeks to wait.

Nemisys suggested we band together in these dire times. ;)

I called up Dell and was informed that my laptop should ship next week. That's better than the August 22nd estimate ship date I had before. We'll see if that happens.

It would be great if the reps would give us reliable information. When i ordered on july 10th I never knew there would be any delays because there was no information... the rep i spoke with told 5 DAYS till i got my m1330. This was complete bull****. I then later joined these forums to find out the truth.

With respect to shipping, the only constant that I have heard of that has yet to deviate is that the pallette containing a the first lot of Canadian M1330s departs Texas to arrive in Pickering for delivery on the 30/31st of the month.

For weeks now I have heard everything from next day to already shipped yet know of not one with a system in their hot little hands yet.

Im gonna hope there will be a fix and all orders resubmitted by Dell as they are stating they will, to arive on that shipment

Hrmmmm... that seems in line with what the rep I spoke to on the phone said. He told me the shipment had to get up to Pickering first and then it should only take a day or so to get to where I am. So 30th/31st from Austin to Pickering then August 3rd from Pickering to me? I can only hope...

Yes it seems far but well before the initial dates of 23 August that many first got...and well before any September dates.

It also coincides with the emails i have been receiving as it is known now that the pallette will be much smaller if they dont get some systems out, and further, the email today relates that all the cancelled orders (over 1000 apparently) will be resubmitted under a high priority as soon as the bluetooth issue is fixed.

What really made me think today was the acknowledgement that issues relating to the LED had been fixed. I had believed right from the beginning that the LED issues had to do with the wrong sku being put on so many orders. My fight with relation to this goes all the way back to 4 July.

Back then they told me that I was incorrect and it had nothing to do with the sku's. Later discussion had so many believing that there was a huge shortage of LEDs and this was causing a backlog.

Myself, I dont think there was a LED backlog. I had been quite vocal on the sku problem and acknowledgement was sent to me after my letter last week that I had hit on something. Immediately after that, Dell started identifying all the cancellations as a software problem because of incorrect sku's...

Well hello!!!! Ive been saying this for a few weeks now to which noone would listen. Ide accrued at that point 12 cancellations of the same system.

Now.....I get an email stating the sku issue has been fixed for LEDs and it seems that the LED backlog seems to have dissappeared which also seems to be the case in that, new orders have earlier shipping estimates.

Arrrgggghhh... If they would have just listenned all along.

Maybe once this is all done, I should address this with Dell because, if this is the case and I am a part of the fix through my frustrations and work and persistence in the reasoning to our problems, then I have just saved dell thousands of dollars (if not tens of thousands) by discovering their problem and allowing them to correct it quickly rather than lose tons o' customers and money.

    Wow thats one long sentence!!!

Perhaps, but how are other systems going out with the LED displays already?

Speaking of the part numbers, what was the final outcome? What was supposed to be the part number?

I'd hate it if you were the cause of the delays, making Dell second guess themselves as to the LED part numbers. ;)
