no recovery disk??? wtf are we supposed to do if we need to do a full re-install... i mean i would not use everything they give you so i always do a full clean install and re-partition the drive any time i get a new system... but now how do we get all the drivers and such we will need to do this.. does dell expect you to send it back to them every time ??

My delicious addicts! We must all calm down and feast in the glory of our shipments. Have a donut. If you'd like have two donuts. Once we receive these wonderful little babies the world will be at ease.

    Excellent.

I have a question. I've tried to install other versions of OS' on laptops with widescreen displays before, and they always looked weird because they weren't made for widescreen and I didn't know how to change the display (there was no widescreen option). Let's say I went ahead and installed Windows Vista Ultimate, would it look weird too, or is there an option for widescreen?

Here's what I mean. I had another laptop that was a compaq. It had Windows XP. I had another version of Windows XP (a re-install disk for a gateway), and I installed it on the compaq. The compaq was widescreen and when I re-installed the new Windows XP, it looked weird, because it wasn't made for widescreen I guess? I'm wondering if that will happen with Vista too...

I installed XP on my Inspiron 1501 and it looks great in 1280x800 once the drivers are installed. I'm running Vista Ultimate on my T60 with the WSXGA+ screen and it looks amazing.

You have to integrate the harddrive drivers onto your xp cd in order for your computer to recognize the harddrive.

    This might help:

so does the Vostro come with a recovery partition on the HD if they don't include the driver discs? If I have the recovery partition, do I still need to make an XP disc with SATA drivers on it or will the recovery do it's job?

One more ?- if I have an XP SP2 OS disc from Dell (my Dimension) that says 'For Distribution with a new Dell PC only" will it work on the Vostro since it's a Dell too? Or should I hassle CSR for disc?

Hassle Dell for the discs. No reason they should not send them out.

What was your estimated ship date on the dell website? That was really quick for your laptop to be sent out.

I'm leaning more and more towards the Vostro over the inspiron.. Can anyone tell me how well the lid closes. I've heard the Inspiron's doesn't close full and is a little loose.. i'm hoping this isn't the case with the Vostro.

Well, that’s annoying. The courier attempted to drop off the laptop this morning at 8AM; however, he couldn’t get an answer. I was home at that time, so, I don’t know what exactly he was doing.
My partner is picking this up now (because she gets my old laptop), however, it means that I won’t get to see it until tonight.

    Quite annoying.

Note – I’m not expecting a huge amount of sympathy from the people who have ordered before me, but, not received their order yet...

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Works 8.5 were the only two discs included.

"This CD is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers" is written on the disc.

rprice54, your absolutely correct, IMHO. My office ordered a Vostro 1500 similar to your sig on 8/6, except it has winxp pro. Today, a DHL tracing number was provided stating shipping info sent. Seems it will get here on 8/13 since it's Nashville Tenn and were a state away.

Now if they could speed up the Inspiron that I ordered on 7/30, check out the sig. It will be replacing my Inspiron 4100, bought in 1992, which has run like new except for a faulty cdrw/dvd eject button causing me to go into winexplorer to eject it there, otherwise it just makes a noisy racket and doesn't open at all, but still plays dvd's and burns cd's. I plan on using the new laptop for video editing since I take a ton of pictures and video's with my Fuji S6000FD digital camera. BTW, this is my first post in what seems to be a great, no fantastic forum! Hello everyone! :D
