1720 Order Delays

I'm from belgium. Do you mean they update the status once a week?

 

yes, she said that they refresh the status pages once a week. Sounds a bit useless to me though, but it could explain why the status page is sometimes behind. As soon as the parts for my laptop are complete it will be shipped immediately so there is a little hope.....
she also said that because i already orderded july 5, august 30 will be pretty sure, maybe even quicker.

 

I Hope since I went with Jet Black i'll get mine when they said I would, reading these other posts makes me worried though. HappyFunBall, how did you get yours for that cheap? I have the exact same one, did you go with the 9-cell and the webcam, cuz I ended up spending $1,450 on mine and you even got mid night blue, i think i got gipped

 

ILuveAsians89: When did you order your 1720? HFB and I ordered ours within a day of each other (2nd/3rd) and paid almost identical prices for the same config.

 

JaHoe, did you switch to red recently? If not, then the idea of Red and Black being available must be BS? I am waiting for the same and expect my date to slip quite a bit based on your signature.

 

no i did not switch, I ordered red from the start (july 5)

be aware that I am in Europe and my Dell will be produced in Ireland. US laptops are coming from Asia? I guess for Europe and US there may be different causes for delay. They told me it are the colors and the glass for the screens. But on the dutch DELL site ( www.dell.nl) you are advised to order a 1721 or 1521 or a XPS1710 instead of 1520/1720 so that would mean CPU shortage. also on the dutch site a statement that due to huge demand there is a additonal delivery time of 6 weeks when you order now

 

About 2 weeks ago a guy from dell called me (in reply to a mail from me to ask whats holding up my process) and he told me that there was a shortage on LCD-screens.

 

update on my 1721 Flamingo Pink order (which had been delayed twice and
rescheduled for 8/28, but then surprisingly "shipped" on 8/5).
It took three days for DHL to show it in their system,
(apparently there is some delay between Dell saying "shipped", and carrier
actually having it in their hands)
but the tracking number actually shows its on the way!

 

Good to hear! It seems that more and more people are receiving their notebooks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

You've ordered the same day as me, so i think i have to expect my laptop before the 30th Think i'm gonna call them tomorrow, hopefully he/she will say that it have been shipped out already

 

I ordered mine 7/25 ESD 8/10, Fingers crossed on that

 

what is your estimated delivery date then Veco.

Be aware that as a European, all info on this board on on delay reasons, compensations and shipping of orders of all US laptops doesnt make sense. European orders are made in Ireland and US orders in Asia and finalized somewhere in US! Also In europe nobody gets compensation for the delays! At least I havent heard any.

 

Ok, so here is a classic Dell story.

I ordered my 1720 on July 24, 2007. It "went into production" the next day. My nephew heard about my order 5 days later and ordered the exact same laptop (1720 series) as I did. We live in the same city. The only difference between the two are that he ordered White and I ordered Blue.

Today is August 8, 2007. His laptop arrived today. Mine is STILL in production. WTF?

Obviously the blue color is what is causing the delay in this case. So, I called Dell and asked them to explain what was up? The girl sounded as smart as a bag of hammers and offered no explanation whatsoever. I just don't get how it can be in production for 15 days. I think it would be better to say "pre-production" until they have ALL the parts necessary to complete the build. It should only take a few minutes to assemble the thing.

I just can't believe his is here already when he ordered it 5 days after I did.

I'm steamed.

 

No kidding. It has been well established that the colors are causing delays.

 

Based on my experiences with Dell reps, that comparison is a terribly unfair insult to hammers.

 

Sept. 10th

 

I ordered a 1720 with the black cover with the EPP Discount on Tuesday (08/07). As of yet, it says shipping date is the 17th with estimated arrival of between 8/22 and 8/25. No word of delays yet, but it is still early. Hopefully I won't have any.

 

Ordered Sunshine Yellow 1720 July 27th, Est Shipping 8-23....We'll see how it goes seeing that yellow is one of the most Unpopular colors lol. Been in build since day 1...

 

I just cancelled and reordered w/ the black cover and was given a 08/27 ship date. So, we'll see what happens now.

 

I ordered mine on 12th of july and i have the same est. ship date as yours. I'm beginning to think that i'll receive a delayed mail soon. As my status is still pre-production

 

I just received my delay, up to the 26th of September...

 

Update on my saga: Flamingo Pink 1721 arrived today, weeks ahead of
the last estimated shipment date (of 8/28)! So there is hope you all
might get yours before school starts or your current PC dies.

6/28: order placed. Est ship date was 7/18
7/17: In chat with customer service I am told it will ship on 7/25
7/18: delay notice. Est ship date revised to 8/1
8/1: another delay notice. Est ship date revised to 8/28
...more chats and calls trying to get the real story...
8/6: total surpise - notice that it has shipped on 8/5
8/8: DHL is able to confirm that it actually has the package
8/9: delivered!

I ordered my 1720 on 8/1 (dell switzerland) ... delivery in 10-12 days.. but next day I discovered on the online delivery status that my ship date was 16 sept and that the whole 1720 serie was discounted :-/
so.. thank you DELL!!!! i paid more and have to wait longer... grrrrrrrrrrrr..

Changing the graphics option wouldn't have helped. Here's what the ordering pages say about graphics options:

So, since the integrated graphics option is delayed, you can upgrade to tje 8400 GS. Of course, since that's delayed, you could upgrade to the 8600 GT. Of course, since that's delayed, you could downgrade to the intergrated graphics option. Of course, since that's delayed... :confused2:

Well While I Am Glad Others Are Getting Their Lappy's, It Has Been Mostly 1420 And 1520's Getting Them, Only Have Seen 1 Maybe 2 People Who Have Been Waiting(1 Person Since July 3rd Or So And Other From End Of July) Receive Their 1720 Series, Which I Find Very Disheartening. =(

 

Mine is still in production. I orderd July 19th and my ESD has passed by more than a week. I ordered the Expresso Brown and the 1920 x 1200 screen. I thought it might ship quickly but I guess not. I need this laptop ASAP. Dell can't do anything for its Canadian customers either appearently. Maybe ill buy one from Costco and take it back if I ever get this one.

edit: i've just noticed a status change! (1st in 4 weeks). My notebook went from pre-production to production.

 

OK mine had been in build the whole time. what would cause yours to be in pre-prod all that time?

 

When i called customer service the lady told me that my order was in pre-production because not all the components for my notebook were in stock. Now that the status is production i asume that all components have arrived and it will not take long for my notebook to be shipped... .

 

dont trust on that. according my status page it is in pre-prod since july 26 (ordered july 5) BUT customer support person had on his screen that my order was going immediately from pre-prod to production on july 5, the day i ordered. But my order is delayed due to missing parts, so the whole pre-production and production status of your order is bollocks

i just called this afternoon the customer service to get some informations about my 1720.. well they told me nothing new.. the EUROPEAN production of 1720 is blocked because of a lack of glass and processors they also told me that a re-order of the system with an italian configuration (i just asked if it was possible) would mean an EDD in october yuhuh

 

Mine went into boxing stage today. We'll see what happens next,

omg, my ESD was Aug 10th, and it was delayed to Aug 17th, I ordered the same exact laptop as you, they better not make me wait till september 14th too. I even ordered mine way later than you, so if I do end up getting it shipped on the 17th I guess i'm lucky

 

Why would that matter if your computer is in the boxing stage? That means it's built...

True!! And you have a point. I actually FIRST ordered my 1520 on July 12. I had two delays and just took advantage of the second delay to change my system after seeing the 1720 at a kiosk and, truly, liking it better than the 1520 -- so I cancelled the order for the 1520 and ordered the 1720 yesterday. This time I ordered over the phone through a sales rep. The 1520 was ordered online -- I am curious to hear how many have ordered online vs. over the phone and if it seems that over the phone gets the computer to you quicker? Of course, my sales rep was sure it would! haha. I am staying optimistic though!! Seeing lots of systems shipping is positive to me!

I ordered an inspiron 1721 on 7/23, est ship date of 8/6. My husband ordered a vostro 1720 on 7/23, his shipped on 8/6. My new ship est is 8/28 . I was on hold for the next avail cust rep for 3 hours and 15 min before hanging up and writing an email. lol, no reply to the email either. This is my second dell, do not remember having such a horrible time with the first order.
Better yet is the est ship date for the messenger bag I ordered, 10/12! Must be a glass problem, lol. whatever........
