Wait, EPP rep? Some contact at Dell?
-
Thats the fan for the CPU, not evidence of a non-integrated graphics solution.
Yes, someone who works for Dell. -
I've received an email from dell, but i'm already ordered a laptop - Sony VAIO Z690.
I am making a mistake... or not?
All that i need is just a premium 13" laptop with no less than 5 hours of battery life and that can get around ~ 2000 marks in 3DMark 06 (while stationary using) with weight no more than 1,5 kg.
So: Dell Adamo VS Sony VAIO Z690 - any recommendations?
And one more thing: I can spend no more than 2500$. -
It is impossible to tell, the Adamo isn't out yet.
-
It's a fan with a heat-pipe connection to two different chips. Most likely a CPU and a GPU. Interesting...
And, the video seems to suggest a mono-bloc design (a case machined out of one single block of alloy) just like the new Apple laptops. Now that would be quite cool. -
The idea of it being carved out of a single piece of (probably) aluminum is exciting indeed. Though the video was a bit too dramatic and not much can be extracted from it...I can't help but feel that the price is going to be around the 2k mark, if not more. Enough with the teasers...Want Specs Now!
-
I thought we already knew that the Adamo was mono-bloc...
I would wait for the Adamo just because I find the screen on the Vaio Z to be bizzarely short. And if the Adamo is actually coming out soon, it makes sense to hold off for a few more weeks just to see. -
Based strictly on this latest marketing video, I would be very concerned if I were Apple. I'm excited to see a WinTel machine finally coming out that may actually "out sexy" the new MacBooks.
You go Dell!!!!! -
Cin, great video and thanks for sharing
Any idea on the price point for the release model? -
100% agreed. To me, the biggest selling point of the new MacBooks is the unibody design and it was for that reason alone that I seriously considered purchasing one. However, I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger when doing price and feature comparisons to WinTel laptops.
I hope the Adamo is successful for Dell and as a result, they expand the line to include bigger screens and optical drives. -
Oh, I know that vid' was incredible!
I don't have any info on price points..My EPP Rep's not *budging* on the price points..just that I will have to wait until he can *cough* officially give me more information!
He know's how *uber* geeked I am, as every conversation we have..I make a point to bring it up!
If I know any further info', I will be sure to let you know!

Edit: actually, you seldom need an optical drive for anything anymore, especially when you're on the go. I blogged a bit about this here, but long story short, it's much better to have the reduced weight and just use the optical drive at your desk. That's the only place you really need one, anyway, and even then it probably just collects dust.
-
*Jaw Drops* That looks incredible. Love the fact that it's thin like MBA, yet it uses it's own design language making it very unique at the same time.
Too bad I'll probably have to wait till some models have been sitting in the Outlet for a looooonng time before it'll be in my typical notebook price range. It looks pretty expensive!
-
Yeah, it's really sweet!
This is going to be a good seller for Dell, as long as they have priced it accordingly & the spec's are well worth it!
Hoping for soon!

Couldn't agree more. Though everybody's experiences are different, I can't remember the last time I installed something from a CD/DVD...external drives or a second network attached machine would get the job done for burning etc.
I won't even consider the drive for media content...encoded files on the hard drive do it for me. Just hope this machine packs enough oomph to play H.264encoded HD content.
I would trade in the drive for lower overall weight any day after lugging my brick around for the last few years. -
How much power does that require? I was under the impression that an Intel 4500MHD could do that, and that's the lowest end chip I can see them putting in this thing. Again, I'm hoping for a 9400 or maybe some 100 series chip.
Edit: No, wait! Hybrid graphics a la the Vaio Z. That make for the ultimate mobile machine. -
Don't mean to get off topic here, but switchable hybrid graphics would be cool specially if you want to do some gaming I guess but also want to balance it with decent power managment/battery life. But just for HD playback, I think the 4500MHD with HD decoding would suffice.
-
When will it release ? Maybe at the end of March after the MacWorld
)
-
I just think hybrid graphics are a cool idea in general since it allows for a more powerful computer without compromising battery life.
-
Back on topic to the Adamo 13.......
I'm hoping we hear more of the release w/in the next few weeks!
My Rep has said something is coming up..fairly soon...he hinted for next week. But saying and doing things..are 2 different things, we all know!
*fingers crossed*

Cin, I just saw that you had made the last post on this thread, and I really got my hopes up! To bad there's no new news yet.
-
Yes, I have my hopes up also. My rep sent me an e-mail on the 6th telling me to contact him exactly 11 days from that date..as he had would have something I have been looking for. Then, when I sent him an e-mail on the 9th and thru phone conversation, he told me he would contact me on the 17th or the 18th..and that is this upcoming week!
He couldn't discuss what the *news* would be...but I'm pretty certain it's the topic at hand..as I continually press him about it! LoL.
Have you seen the latest video for it? It's really cool, let me link it again!

As someone who loves Apple's industrial design, but hates their business practices (See: New shuffle having an "authentication chip" in headphones so that third party headphone providers would get slapped with a DMCA lawsuit if they tried to reverse engineer something compatible without Apple's permission!), the Adamo looks to be a worthy competitor.
Lets hope that it includes some kind of graphics. I'm not looking for top quality, but if even the Asus N10j netbook can include a dedicated 9300 gfx card in its 10inch frame, I'd love to see something equivalent or better here. -
It seems they have more room than the Air, they already outdid them on ports, lets hope they outdo the rest of the specs too...
-
They could always put a Geforce 9400 chipset in there. Great performance for an integrated solution and it's what drives the Macbook Air too.
-
Adamo is coming tomorrow!!!
Well according to ads on google anyway

Nice! Can't wait to see it in all its glory.
-
I had a chat with a Dell representative 5 minutes ago .. The Dell rep said that there will be a surprise release within this week. Of course, he was not able to share other details with me.
-
Yup, that is what I posted last week, that my EPP Rep told me on the 3/6, that something would happen on 3/17 or 3/18..
I cannot wait!
I shall be ordering!!!! Anyone else??
Cin
-
Congrats, you had a nice find!
-
I hope it is released tomorrow i want to see the specs on this bad boy
-
Grat's!
Do you plan on ordering, also??
Me too, we've been waiting long enough.
Cin
-
Yep, i'll be ordering as soon as the page is up
Well...
If the spec isn't really low end which i doubt it will be -
Yup...me to! I just can't imagine the specs being low end...at least I hope not!

I was waiting for Sony to add the Z640 CTO to their order page. For some reason they're taking their sweet time. The Z690 CTO has been available for a while now.
Anyway, I though the Adamo wouldn't be released until the summer or later. I might just order it this week. I don't need an internal optical drive most of the time and when I do, I can use an external one at home. However, I would like to read a couple of reviews, preferably one here before I pull the trigger. I only have some early-build jitters about being one of the first to get the Adamo 13.
Will there be an Adamo review posted here in the next day or two? -
I would hope that someone from NBR would be doing a Adamo review sooner than the latter!!! It would be really nice to see a review from a NBR Officiate
 And, fairly soon after the release!!!!
Cin
-
What a glorious St. Paddy's day surprise its going to be! Hope there's going to be review soon after the release.
-
Yeah, it would suck to order it and then a day or two later get a disappointing review from NBR. I would expect Dell to have units in the hands of NBR, PC Magazine & others right now if they plan to release it tomorrow. I'm hoping for a couple of "editor's choice" awards actually. That would make me pull the trigger with a big smile.
-
Oh, I would hope for some fantastic reviews from NBR
The nice thing about NBR is they always give some good, honest reviews
Editors Choice Awards..sounds good to me!
OH, when I pull the trigger huge huge smile! *fingers crossed for Tuesday, or Wednesday*

Alike all of you guys, i am too eagerly awaiting the launch of the adamo. It looks stunning and i really hope the specs are decent enough for me to warrant spending a premmium on it.
Then again i thought more of you would have noticed. About 2 weeks ago or something i saw on the dell website somewhere about the official release of the Adamo happening on the 17th. Didnt anyone else?
I didn't like screenshot it or anything because I thought everyone would have seen. Maybe they pulled it off really fast or something hmm. Thats the date i have been looking forward to though haha!
Anyway pleased i just found this thread
Lets keep our fingers crossed!
-
Though I am not planning on buying an adamo, I am still quite interested in the adamo
I'm also curious if there will be an adamo 16
-
Hmm..I checked the site daily and didn't see it....maybe it was an oversight..
Nonetheless...its coming out soon, and that's all that matters!
Yes, Erwallie for you..they are going to make the Adamo 16!
(With Dell, you never know, anyways)

Any bets on how long it will take Dell to start actually shipping it once they announce it? I'm in total lust but even if they announce it tomorrow (fingers crossed), I'm not optimistic that we'll see it shipping until next month - at the earliest.
On the other hand, this is one time where I hope that Dell makes a liar outta' me. -
Ohh bets....hmmm lets say......3.5 weeks?
The week of 4/13 as a started ESD???
Ok..maybe I'm wishing and wanting a little bit too much right now!
But, I'm always up for *positive thinking*, on a daily basis ~ and when I want something bad enough!
Cin

I think the first people to order the Studio XPS 16 waited about 2 weeks. However, the Adamo 13 is a little more difficult to manufacture so...let's say 3 weeks and hope for the best.
Then again, they may have a bunch of pre-configs just waiting to hop on that plane. -
3 weeks...so are you thinking....the first week of April??
I prob's won't be going with a pre config...Listen to me..I haven't even seen the specs yet!
Cin. -
shoot
I just bought my sxps 13 from bestbuy 3 weeks ago
I was waiting for the adamo then i ordered the sxps 16 then cancelled the sxps 16 then i got the sxps 13
i wish i would have waited longer
whatever
if the price is low enough, ill just pick one up -
I wonder if the Adamo will get Intel's X25-M SSD or a Samsung SSD?
