Hmmm...I have estimated time remaining on my battery/power icon in the system tray. I'm not sure why you wouldn't.
I also am now experimenting with undervolting the Adamo using RMClock. It allows me to tailor my power saving modes and drop the voltages a bit, hence increasing battery life a bit. More control + less power usage = win/win.

-
Has anyone done a read/write test on these new faster drives in the Adamo? I've yet to see anyone's numbers.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Pretty nice! -
-
Finally got my battery life to show, it is being a little buggy though I set everything to low backlight and power saver and it shows 6 hours then 3 then back to 5, so much for estimating -
With HD Tune, it looks like performance is much lower, overall, than what you see with ATTO, but again, who knows what block size they use. Also, HD Tune seems more suited to spinning drives who's performance changes over the surface of the platter (meaning from inside to outside, a spinning HD will perform differently), whereas with SSD's there is no difference, so HD Tune isn't really telling us anything useful after the first bit of testing...it's all the same, basically, throughout.
In any case, here are the results. I did not do the write tests because I did not want the entire 256GB of my SSD written to, thereby decreasing it's performance. I just performed the read tests.
-
-
So that jives with ATTO, then, at the 32k block size with a speed of 164MB/sec.

I think this is some newer news regarding the XPS version of the Adamo:
--------------------------------------------------
(Courtesy of Tom's Hardware)
Dell's been teasing the Adamo XPS for weeks now, showing profile shots and its cool heat-sensitive latch. But rarely mentioned in its showings was what went on inside.
While the Adamo XPS is most definitely a form-focused computer, we're pleased to report that it's powered by a Core 2 Duo instead of an Atom.
- 4GB DDR3 800 memory;
- Intel Core 2 Duo (1.4 Ghz) ultra-low voltage processor;
- Thin 128 GB SSD for faster, cooler, quieter and more durable storage than traditional hard drives;
- A 13.4-inch high-definition display.
Thin is still the biggest focus for the Adamo XPS, measuring 9.99-mm or just four-tenths of an inch. It weighs just over 3 pounds and measures 13.39 x 10.71 inches.
"Our engineers and designers are breaking new ground and throwing away the old rules with the introduction of Adamo XPS," said Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell consumer products. "We think the Adamo XPS will inspire an emotional connection with anyone who sees it."
The name Adamo is derived from the Latin word meaning "to fall in love," –-and if you love this XPS model, then it'll cost you no less than $1799.
------------------------------------------------
So, specs not much different that the current Adamo Admire (except for the 4GB vs 2GB) and at least $300 more. Seems the current Adamo Desire tops the XPS Adamo in performance with a faster C2D and a SSD that is twice the size.
No XPS Adamo for me...I'm happy with my $900 Pearl Admire with 256GB SSD, thank you! -
Can anyone time the cold bootup of their Adamo from pressing the power button to seeing the desktop with one of these new ssd's? (without entering a logon)
-
Look, the Adamo XPS internals are identical to the older Adamo.
The only reason to get the XPS is if the design interests you. It doesn't for me but to each his own -
-
If I do a reboot, and time from the instant the Dell LOGO screen disappears to when the Windows 7 desktop appears, it's 21 seconds.
And...if I do the same thing, but disable the Windows 7 startup animation, the time is 20 seconds, so it appears that animation isn't really causing any big delays. -
Let's see.... DDR3 800, 1.4 CULV (might be slightly different), 13.4" screen, etc. ESPECIALLY the screen -- how many 13. 4" lcd's do you see? It makes sense from Dell's end as they don't need to inventory more/different parts.
It is basically the current Adamo wrapped in a new shell.
Don't believe me, I could care less one way or the other. However, everything I have seen so far says the specs will be the same (except the user-replaceable battery which is a must for me and I am glad that Dell was able to do that with such a thin chassis!). -
No need to get offended about the literal meaning of your use of "identical". It could be taken either way, and yes, since I have ONLY WORDS to go by (since this is a forum and I cannot hear your voice), I questioned which way you meant it, instead of taking you "1000% literally" (and, I certainly asked in a nice, non-offensive way).
It seems like you think your posting some sort of unique facts, when in reality, it's just a rewording of what I stated in my post.
Am I missing something???? -
-
however I do agree that the internals are pretty much the same and the new look does not appeal to me and I as well will stick with my 256gb admire pearl -
The only thing I asked him (nicely) was what he meant by " Identical internals". To me, that means the exact same internal parts. To him, it meant similar specifications. Maybe there is a language barrier or something.
Oh well. -
I wasn't being offensive. Just saying, in a nutshell, that the specs are the same - agreed or not (even though there isn't anything to debate, right?)
Identical internals - I just wasn't sure why you thought that I was referring to every solder joint/port/pcb being exactly the same. Just common sense that, after reading my post, I said basically that the XPS spec-wise is identical to the orginal Adamo, aside from the battery. I am willing to bet that the LCD is even the same Samsung panel!
Sorry if I sounded like I was attacking you. lol
I wasn't. -
-
I'll change that from common sense to common knowledge as the specs have slowly leaked out.
That's better wording for ya -
So how is undervolting the cpu coming for you lancorp?
-
Stay tuned. -
Hmm interesting, well if it was forced to run at a lower clock then it should use a lower voltage but that would like affect performance more than wanted
-
-
Well I pulled the trigger:
Dell Adamo Desire Onyx
Accessories:
TUMI Adamo laptop sleeve black
Onyx DVD-RW Drive
Dell Matte Black Bluetooth travel mouse
Plan to buy:
Displayport -> HDMI cord and not just the adapter. -
I need one of those cords too, does the display port to hdmi cord transfer sound? -
-
I'm assuming it transfers both audio and video. Displayport and HDMI both tranfer audio and video, so it would make sense. -
There is an interesting note on their DP --> HDMI cable:
Note: While DisplayPort connectors are capable of passing an HDMI signal, DisplayPort and HDMI signals are basically different and not compatible with each other. In order for this cable to function properly, you must have a DisplayPort source device capable of producing and passing out an HDMI signal through the DisplayPort jack.
I wonder if the DP port on the Adamo passes out an HDMI source???
Actually, I think I have a DP --> HDMI cable I got from monoprice...I'll give it a try and let you guys know if it works! -
I am hopeful this will work but that is an odd and broad disclaimer -
So, they say that their cable only works if the source is already sending out HDMI on the DP port. -

Just decided to forgo the outlet/refurb route and got a brand new onyx 1.2, 128gb, 2GB RAM version for 1299 brand new from amazon. Had it for 5 days. Thanks much for the earlier trick on how to get the windows 7 drivers. I put windows 7 on it right away. Only drivers I installed was the keyboard one and the quickset one. Others seemed to have installed by themselves. I installed a synaptics touchpad from the synaptics site--the dell one is older--any reason to install it or any other drivers from dell. Please advise if you have thoughts on what drivers need installing that may not have installed automatically with windows 7 clean install.
-
In any case, can you tell us what the driver version number is for the Synaptics touchpad driver you got? Thanks! -
Hey lancorp what score do you get in wei for your hdd, I am stuck at 5.9 like some others and I thought maybe it was AHCI but it was already enabled
EDIT: Also have you tried using quick boot option in the bios? is there any downside to using that?
I opted not to turn it on since I boot in about 30 seconds as is -
Hi everyone,
I am just an average guy that is considering buying the adamo. Another laptop I am considering is the samsung xp360 and mainly for its battery life. I have read almost every post in this forum and am kind of dizzy now so I figured I'd just post my question. I dont need the laptop for anything else but internet, excel, word and maybe occasionly watching a movie. My main concern is battery life, and yes I have read many posts about this but mainly its regarding heavy duty work. How is the battery going to hang on for the simple stuff I do. I must mention that I do travel often and would like to enjoy bringing it instead of being (*U^*(U^)U by it . Does the broadband work well? any experiences on that? Of course I understand that this wil depend on the provider etc but just in general.
Thanks for any feedback in advance and all the posts I read certainly help guys like me decide what to do. -
lancorp--sorry I was off-line for a day or two. The synaptics driver that I got from their site is version 14.0.3.0. When I tried to install the one on the dell site it said the one I had was newer. I only installed it because I did not know the trick for getting windows 7 drivers till later. Now I am wondering if I should uninstall what I have and get the one from the dell site. Using this one, I had to disable almost all features otherwise I was getting lags and unwanted behavior. I am not a trackpad person (like the knobs) though and that might be part of problem. Any advice?
OR---I use my laptop for basic tasks just like you. I am get 3-3:30 hours (usually the full 3 1/2) with wifi on the whole time and screen down about half way. I personally like the slimline adapter because it is easier to carry. That was what made me go ahead despite the battery life.
I wanted something that felt a bit special and I wanted a great keyboard and was willing to pay a bit more (1300 for a brand new one--see prior post) and sacrifice some higher specs because I felt I really did not need them. I am satisfied for sure but I am still in the "less than two weeks crush period". -
I came from a latitude e6400 and and the speed is just fine for what I'm doing...i leave my dev work on my workstation in the office (but have connected over remote desktop connection in a pinch)
Good luck... -
I have a couple of questions for you Adamo owners.
1) Does the Adamo display port send audio as well as video?
2) Has anyone upgraded the OS to Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit?
3) Does anyone own the newest 2.1GHZ model? If so, what kind of battery life are you seeing. I would assume that it would be less than the 1.4 or 1.2. -
2) I upgraded to Win7 Ultimate a day after I got it and I love it, under 30 second boot times without quickboot FTW!
3) Someone mentioned earlier that they put in an order so stay tuned! -
1. don't know
2. Yes I put windows 7 pro on it the day I got it. I have a couples of BSOD and locks but seems always related to printer driver. Other than that fast and solid.
3. don't know about the 2.1 model -
I was looking into getting the desire model but it said preliminary date of 12/4. So i dont know if i want it anymore. I think that is way too long to get a laptop. If anyone had order can you please chime in on how long it took for you to get your adamo?
-
I refused to order from dell because of the wait time in part. I ordered mine for 1299 from amazon brand new but of course it was the 1.2 ghz, 2GB RAM model. For what I do quite fast enough.
-
Anyone know if it's possible to connect the adamo to 2 screens?
And also what is the max resolution out for 1 external screen?
Thanks. -
FWIW, the Adamo is not listed any longer in the Outlet.
Any ideas why? -
They felt like we needed to be more exclusive
-
Can the 1.2ghz version play 720p mkv files flawlessly?
