He obviously meant Desire 2.1...

So anyone has a good estimate of battery life? -
Video of the Adamo XPS here.
And it won't have an Atom processor. Woo hoo! -
Video won't work for me, darn it!!
Although I am not liking the design so far. Maybe better pics will change my mind.... -
Saw the video and I am really underwhelmed now. Yawn.
I thought the system would open itself or something near like that.
Meh.... -
I am just worried about how stable it will be. It seems like you can't adjust the angle on it. And the top does look heavier. I wouldn't want to drop that thing.
Maybe the black will look a little better. I still like it, but I am unsure how it would feel.
The rubbing part is kinda lame. It doesn't do anything. I guess it unlocks it or something? I can rub my laptop before opening it too. -
Yeah, I'll pass on this one (and quite frankly, I think the original Adamo is way sexier )
You will never be able to comfortably use the XPS while you are lounging on the couch -
-
Yeah - shame it wasn't spring loaded, but it's an interesting way of securely closing the laptop.
And assuming the ULV part is correct, it definitely has piqued my interest. It occurs to me however that the hinges will be under far more strain in use than a regular laptop screen hinge - wonder how long it'd last in my usage as quite a hammerer.
And no word of runtime. I'm being a pessimist and guessing 3 hours on the outside. If >4:30 in real life and a decent ULV, I'll be all over it like a cheap suit. -

I've got two Admire's (Pearl and Onyx) from the Outlet showing up today...less than $880 each...I haven't touched one first-hand yet, but I think they will be keepers for a while!
-
I think I will pass too, maybe different angle might change my mind so is it coming out tomorrow, thanks.

Original Adamo all the way!!
I just don't think the XPS will be practical for me. The Adamo I have is built like a tank and is machined to perfection, really -
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then from what I've seen so far, the answer would be "unlikely, unlikely, unlikely, unlikely, unlikely, unlikely, unlikely, unlikely, unlikely, unlikely,...(990 more times)". -
Well I am trying to sell my World's Lightest Laptop the Dell Latitude E4200 for either the Dell Adamo or the Dell Adamo XPS (LESS LIKELY), by the way what is you configuration for the NEW DELL ADAMO, thanks.
-
lancorp you forgot to calculate the VAT
Or do you pay by transfer from your business and it doesnt count? -
Whoa I just took a look at this today...really impressive except the price. It's priced like a Mac!

I guess you can complain that Oil companies that make huge profits is unfair to the public, but computer manufacturers are somehow exempt?
Personally, I voice my opinion by my choice of where to shop, and typically, the Apple Store isn't one of the places. -
-
I think you guys need to sit for moment and think about what is involved with engineering these kinds of products. It's pretty simplistic to think that developing/engineering everything from the motherboard to the case costs nothing. Also consider that this is a niche product so Dell isn't going to sell many of them. Divide the total cost of the engineering, design, manufacturing, and marketing by the number of units sold and the price per unit is going to be high. That doesn't take into effect that since Dell is selling fewer units that the components unique to this device will cost more due to less of a volume discount from OEMs. The reason why the real bread and butter machines cost very little is that those machines use off the shelf components and very little engineering. Sure Dell and others do make a profit from the machines, but they roll that back into new projects.
-
CULV procs are the most expensive to buy from Intel, even in the quantities that Dell buys them in.
Dell has also stated that the Adamo XPS isn't meant to be a volume seller. Rather, it will be a "look at me" product to draw in more customers to look at their more consumer friendly line of portables.
That's all -
lol I just read the perfect description of the Adamo line.
From Engadget:
-
I believe they updated the graphics in the Desire too. Can anyone confirm this?

I know there isn't a 9400 in there so I am sure it is the same Intel IGP. -
So, I received my two Adamo Admires today (Dell Outlet), and unboxed the Pearl model. First impression? Mint condition! Whew!
First thing I did was image off the Vista install to a backup drive and installed Windows 7 Enterprise. Did the BIOS update (A01 --> A06) and a few Windows update driver updates, and it's working beautifully. Not so fond of the keyboard and the letter font/graphics, and the bezel around the LCD seems rather large (could they have fit a 14" LCD in there for the price?), but other than that, so far, so good.
Currently loading up a few apps. Performance is good. The SSD sure helps in that respect. Speaking of which, the SSD is a Samsung uThin SSD. Not heard of that model, so I'll have to do some research.
It should surely turn the heads of some of the Mac people at the coffee shop I frequent! (which, the other afternoon, I counted 9 Mac users and 2 PC users...)
(I'm sure it's all old news, considering the model has been out for a while, so I won't flood the forum with my excitement and findings...) -
Let me know what model and what fiwmare the SSD is under Device Manager.
-
-
It doesn't say PM800 or PB-22JS3?
I'm afraid you have the much slower SSD's in that system. -
-
If so...Dell will be hearing from me! -
My adamo 13's keyboard back-light seems to be pretty non-uniform...so like the left hand side is noticiably brighter than the right...is that common or is there something wrong with this one?
-
Left is brighter than right. -
-
If you order a new Adamo they have updated the SSD to the new PM800/PB-22 which has r/w of 220/200 firmware should read VBM19D1Q or higher.
MUCH quicker. -
More Adamo XPS video here.

I told one guy if it were a desktop, I would be ok with it only working when plugged in...I didn't even get a laugh out of him
anywho..let me know if you get something out of them... -
Apple didn't force people to buy their stuff. People buy it because they choose to. Apple made profit because people voluntarily walked into stores and handed over cash. How is that unfair to the public? They do the right things according to their business plan, their marketing works, their products please their customers and they make money but its unfair to the public?? Give me a break. -
You are right, though, that no one is holding a gun to anyone's head to walk into an Apple Store and buy one of their overpriced computers. It's the public's choice. But, given the HUGE profits this company is making every 3 months, as a customer, I'd be seeing that since they have relatively small market share, that a good portion of that profit came out of my pocket. -
I'm no PC "fanboy", but I'm not afraid to call a spade, a spade, when I see one.
Anyways, I think we are getting off topic here. Sorry. -
Just a bit. OT that is. I'm not amazed the Apple fans, or conversely the rabidly broke, are deluded enough to draw the above parallels with nary a sense of irony.
Anyhoo, the XPS is more attractive for the thinness more than it's actual styling - that's probably something we Adamo owners agree on. However, that replaceable battery (if that latch is for nothing else) is proving a point of major interest for me. Superthin, ULV, a replaceable cell even if it's in the 3-hours-or less class - It would definitely make it more usable for me than the Adamo in actual portable use.
I'm preparing to pass on the Adamo to be honest as it is genuinely a dust-collector: The Tosh and the Air are my main carry's at the moment, and even the superannuated, same-weight, SZ is a more useful machine as well. And I would imagine that given the current specs and what we seem to know, the XPS may be more compelling to me to actually use, and not just admire on a corner of my desk.
