Very nice. But I'm thinking is way too expensive for the performance it should offer. Gonna have to wait until those hit the outlet like the previous Adamo models; 8 months or so?

I wouldn't feel comfortable paying almost the same I paid for my M17x (got some good deals) for something slimmer but not even a fraction close to my main laptop. My Eee PC will just have to do until then.

Still, can't wait to see this thing's specs already.

Good find I didn't see the spec update on the EPP or Home sites. That's a big jump between the two different models.

Now the base Adamo has the 1.4 that was standard in the Desire :)

I would wait for the Adamo XPS coming this week, though.

Did you guys also notice that both models say "No Internal Mobile Broadband"?

I wonder if they are in mid-upgrade..either way..maybe this makes my refurbised/new decision easier...

    With the 2.13GHz SL9600, 4GB DDR3 Ram, and a 256GB SSD there's no question which one I'm going for.

The updated desire looks quite appealing. This is what the original machine should have included. If only the display and speakers were updated as well. I'm really curious what the XPS is going to have for the CPU.

Hmmmm. Not filtered through to the UK yet.

Dunno about the spec update. Keeps it current for sure on paper, but what will it do for the battery life? If they manage to extend that to 5 real slightly ekeing hours (with 6 achievable under extreme ekeing) I'll reconsider the Onyx, but otherwise I'm more inclined to just let the Pearl continue gathering a thin film of dust.

I'm suitably intrigued by the XPS, but it's bound to be an Atom - and I kind of object that there's been this sort of lull in the true high-end. Recession? Well yeah, but...

    Battery life will def suffer.

The SL procs are 17W vs the 10W SU series. That's 70% difference in power draw.

I HOPE that they use the faster SL's in the XPS, though.

I'm thinking a 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo or possibly one of the CULV processors in the XPS. Unlike Sony Dell would probably feel ashamed to stuff an Atom in such an expensive machine.

What XPS Adamo are we talking about?

There is the new ultra thin model (Desire) and the used-to-be-Desire that is now the Admire, right? What is the XPS Adamo?

    Sorry if I'm being a blockhead! :)

EDIT: Never mind, I got it! The Admire and Desire are STILL the old style Adamo, just with the Desire having the updated CPU and specs, and the XPS Adamo is the ultra thin one!
I wonder if the Admire can take a CPU upgrade to make it into a Desire or if it's a whole new system board?

    The CPU is embedded (soldered).

No way to swap in the Adamo.

We'll find out soon of course - but I just don't see even a CULV in there. If there is anything but an Atom I'll be extremely surprised (and pleased, although my wallet will probably not be as pleased).

So...I'm still on the fence between a refurbed and new...I worry that with the 2.1 battery life is going to suffer too much and I've already read that some people don't think the battery is enough...

    decisions, decisions...

    Too funny and I +repped ya ;)

I feel ya. The 2.1 would be awesome in the Adamo but battery life will DEF suffer. The TDP between the SL and SU is 70% more @ 17W.

Maybe the battery is a little larger? You never know.

The ULV battery life is already borderline. There is a third-party external battery that might be made to work - haven't tried it - but the problem is that then you're pushing over 2.2Kg's for a ~9-real-hour life.

With the SL I would imagine you're definitely down to Macbook Air runtimes - ~3.5 hours in aggressive power saving.

Ya...I think the goal of it is to have it all in the machine without really messing with it...I dont need it to work all day, but I want a few hours of battery life and I don't want to revolve my day around power savings and external batteries.

    I have a little bit of a hard time ordering a 1699 refurbed 1.4gb/4gb ram/128gb ssd when a NEW 1.4gb/2gb ram/256gb ssd is only 1499 :(

..and I wonder why they took out the mobile broadband...

Dell lists the specs for the SL9600 as:
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SL9600 (2.1GHz/800MHz FSB/3M L2 Cache)

However, Intel lists the SL9600 as having 6 MB cache and runs on a 1066MHz BUS.

I think I'll take Intel's word on this one ;)

Ok, with this bump-up in the specs, the "Desire" now has my attention.

Does anyone know how the performance in an SL9600 would compare with say, a C2D T7500 (2.2ghz)?

Well...I went ahead and ordered a refurbed desire. I had a 15% off outlet coupon so it was quite a bit cheaper than a new one and I think the battery will hold up better...(plus i will get it way sooner!!!)

    thanks for your thoughts...

That's what I was about to say! That's not exactly a forum for an "Official Owners thread".

Therefore, this place is a perfect forum for the "XPS" version of the Adamo (or someone can start a new one here, where it is easier to find).

The Admire 2.1 sells for 1.699 pounds now in the UK.

This is getting pretty close to a reasonable prize considering the specs and a 256 GB SSD.

Can anyone give me a reasonable measure of battery life of the Adamo?
The Dell site says 5 hours and the reviews that I looked at said 2 hours or less

So if I just write a document or give a presentation how long will this thing last me?
