Since successfully installing XP, I've been working at getting all resources and components up and running. I have ran into several conflicts and still haven't resolved a handfull.

Video was a bit of a headache, as I was unable to install video drivers due to the responsible PCI-e bus being involved in a resourse conflict. Through trial and error I found the conflict to be System Device: Intel(R) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 2843.

If you experience similar difficulties installing display drivers - the best of which I've found so far being these:
    http://www.tweakforce.com/goz5000/XTreme-G Mobile 163.44 XP 32bit.exe
then at your own descretion I would recommend disabling each PCI Express Root Port, restarting, enabling the port back and and move onto the next port until the "New Hardware Dectected" pop-up appears for a new PCI bus.

This driver is working fine so far, but due to not having an eSATA cable or a firewire device, I haven't been able to deduce which PCI controlled device has been shutdown to get around this conflict.

Again, I hope this guide is helpful, but please only take it as a guide, as each system is different and I don't want to be responsible if anything goes wrong by taking my advice. Cheers

I called Asus and they explained that...

    Intel(R) ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 2843.

...is the 1gb of Turbo memory for the video card and the conflict is apparent because in my system I have 3gb of system RAM, which is the maximum XP can address.

The problem can be resolved by going back to 2gb RAM when in XP or by disabling the turbo RAM (which won't work in XP anyway apparently).

I have not done any benchmarking to back up this theory with facts, but playing Oblivion on the same settings on both OSs feels faster on XP (FRAPS displays lower FPS on XP than Vista), even without the Turbo memory.

I don't imagine I'm the only person wondering about these things, so again I hope my posts help someone out. Cheers
