    Well I cancelled my pre-order.

The folks at Gentech PC were very courteous and professional, however, I need a new laptop now and cannot afford to wait another 2 to 3 weeks. I will be going by the Apple store to buy a 2.2 ghz MBP on Friday.

Good luck to the rest of you waiting for your V2s.

FYI I decided to skip talking to resellers and try talking to ASUS Direct Customer Service, which wasnt bad at all, just that they didnt have any new information themselves to tell me. For reference, I called 1 888 678 3688, option 2, and was connected to a laptop rep for North America. He said the information he had applied to North America, but when I pressed him about Canada he was saying its supposed to be released right around this time. I explained to him that there doesnt seem to be a single reseller that has any stock available at all yet and he said that was all the information that he had and to call back at the end of the week or next week. I'd ideally like to have this laptop in my hands by September 10th, I start school on the 5th, but the first two days there's no real usage for it yet. I'm still holding out for it, but the T61 or the 1330 have to start coming into play right now. MBP is nice and thin, but i still think its too big 15.4" screen.

    Cross your fingers folks.

Yeah, now I'm torn between waiting for V2S or going on eBay for a m1330 (and hoping to get one without quality control issues). My school goes by an intense 7-week quarter system, so if I don't get something by around Sept 10 I'm gonna be in a bind.

Thats a strange school system. Is it a professional program by any chance?

Sept 10 is too late for me, I'm not going to start school with no computer. Plus I'd like to take a day or two cleaning everything up and getting the system working and to my liking. No way will I be spending the first weekend of the school year setting up my computer (I'd rather be out doing what we university students do best).

If I can't get a hard set date for a delivery by Friday, its the MBP for me and Asus probably won't be getting this customer back.

I called milestonepc last week and they said it was at canadian customs. I called milestone yesterday and they said it should be in canada soon and it had already arrived in the USA.

    I wonder what's up.

It's an MHS master's program, and we front-load our most intensive courses to the first two terms. Almost 5 hours of coursework a day plus a job (in which a computer is also required), so I'm really itching for something that I can easily carry around in addition to notebooks and binders.

My classes start tomorrow, so if by Sept 10 I don't have something portable that I can use, I'll be in trouble - lugging around my 17" desktop replacement is simply out of the question.

When I just spoke to Milestone in the US, they said they did not have v2s laptops in yet. I think we will be lucky to see them by mid Sept.

Honestly you've made that clear already. You said in the previous thread that you were only wanting to offer suggestions to improve customer service. I dont believe that qualifies. This is exactly the kind of attitude and reaction that people were afraid of when you said you were going to make your hate website.

Anyone have a prediction on the V2S display quality. The V1S review makes me concerned the V2S will have similar dim screen issues. After checking out a lot of notebooks at retailers, I have come to believe that display brightness is more important than high end graphics and screen res.

I'm also a bit concerned about the V2s display, I made a thread about it which hasn't gotten any suitable response.

I wouldn't say its more important than high end graphics because these are separate parts of the notebook. Surely most people would consider the spec of the machine before trying to determine the quality differences.

The screen is a total package (res, brightness, even lighting, viewing angles), which is probably why its hard to get right for the most part (just think how hard it is to find a perfect notebook).

EDIT: The thread I made about the screen is more useful now. Here it is.

well hats off to you guys that still have the patience to wait. i'm already using my MBP fed up with the delay for the v2s. hoping it'll arrive for you guys soon though, but anyone looking for an alternative, the mbp is a very solid notebook as long as you're okay with the massive heat on the bottom and the size.

hey, no i'm a brand new mac os user and i asked my friend who's been using mac his whole life and he basically gave me a 10 minute quick tutorial to get me going and it's been a fairly easy transition.

and to marioparty, i tend to game on my MBP or i would have not paid for the 8600m GT and would have settled for the regular macbook because imo, it looks better and it's smaller which i'd prefer. i plan on putting bootcamp onto my mbp once uni starts since they provide a free version of vista. with that id be able to play any game just fine.

I'm still waiting...i'm moving to school tomorrow (york) but i borrowed my sisters laptop and will make do (due?) with that for the first week or two. Hopefully the v2s arrives by then.

I called milestone today and they're not even saying 'soon' anymore, so that left me a bit worried, but at least it's more honest than 'it's at customs'. I'm also not so convinced it's 'perfect' anymore, considering the poor 3dmark scores; if it wasn't for the deal with the dock I wouldn't be getting it.

But anyway, i've come this far, I don't think i'll quit just yet

Again FYI for everyone, I called ASUS Canada/North America and they themselves arent even sure why it's been delayed. Everytime I call I get a rep telling me his screen says they should be here by now "but obviously they arent". Then when I press if theres anywhere else I can ask they say they only get the information that head office forwards to them. There's probably a pallet full of V2S's on a ship sitting in like Vancouver harbour right now. I am also rather dissapointed by those 3Dmark scores though. Does anyone know how the T61 NVS 140 compares? Since we dont get the stupid workstation version here in Canada on lenovo's website.

P.S. I also go to York, lol

I still have my preorder open, but every day that it doesnt ship I get closer to cancelling it. I have a m1330 on order as well, and if it ships first (9/5 ESD) and it's of good build quality, then I'll probably keep it instead of the V2S. If the V2S had shipped by this week, I would have already canceled my m1330 order.

I got mine from Gentech. If it is INFACT sitting on someship in vancouver, then that would be severely retarded since I LIVE in vancouver. It would have to come off the ship, go to Asus N.A head quaters, get shipped to Gentech, then shipped to Seattle where my relatives live to save the shipping... WHen IN the PERFECT WORLD, it could just go from the ship straight to my house!

I agree that the initial V2S 3dMark06 benchmarks are dissapointing. I'm hoping that these are because of the stock drivers.
If you check out the thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125246
you can see that the 8600GS SHOULD be capable of much better scores without overclocking. Ales, could you try some different drivers (such as those from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/)? A guide and information on using alternative drivers can be found on these forums at:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=64910

I really really hope that these scores are behind because the F3 benchmarks were because alternative drivers were used...

P.S. Thanks a bunch for the information and pics ales. You're our only lifeline to the V2S :D.

In terms of gaming power, the MBP has a better GPU (8600 GT with 128 or 256 MB RAM), which contributes to it performing better than the V2S at gaming.

    Purely hardware-wise, MBP is the only laptop with <= 15.4" form-factor, 8600gt gddr3 and < 2.5kg... And you can't really get anything more powerful than 8600gt gddr3 in a 15.4" now...

E.g. MBP with 256mb 8600gt gets 3750 in 3dmark06, the 1580 of v2s right seem rather pathetic(the max of 8600gs gddr3(real one, stock 700) overclocked and everything is 3400 btw)

The 1440 instead of 1680 is a plus, but it's just for me(faster running games natively) :)))

I agree about the rez.....When I bought a Dell I opted for the 1440x900 screen instead of the 1920 x1200 so I could run games better. So the MBP is the best thing going gaming wise?

Unfortunately, I have canceled my V2S order. Just as in the case with Dell, if you can't bring adequate supply (or in this case no supply at all) to your customers in a decent amount of time, you are going to lose out to someone who can. Granted, I am much more upset at Dell than I am at Asus since I've been waiting on the m1330 since 7/8, and I've only been waiting for the V2S for about 2 weeks. In the end, Sony got my money, I just picked up an SZ650 and I am quite happy with it so far.

Does you guys think that this is a hardware problem or just a software problem.

We're not talking about overclocking the card :), we're talking about getting superior drivers to the stock drivers. For new laptops, graphics drivers tend to not perform very well. So instead, alternative drivers can be installed (e.g. those from laptopvideo2go), which are usually better optimised and offer better performance. Using alternative drivers doesn't entail any overclocking.
Possibly, the reason why the V2S benchmarks are so low is becuase Ales ran them on stock drivers (he stated this in the other thread). Unfortunately, the 8600GS benchmarks from the ASUS F3Sv ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125246) were run at stock drivers, and it got about 500 more 3dMarks, so things don't look very positive at the moment.
What on earth are ASUS thinking :S. I really hope ales comes back to us saying that the low benchmarks were because of some minor issue (old drivers, un-updated software, or something) ;).
