Make sure your video drivers, are also upto date. The latest driver version on Asus as official release is version 101.19.

I finally got my F3SV in today and I'm totally impressed with the system. I'm installing XP on the machine and have managed to get everything working but one app. Does anyone know where I could DL the XP version of the hotkeys? Like Fn + F10 is supposed to mute the system etc.?

I think this problem is not because drivers. When ASUS logo appears in screen I can see this grainy, and in BIOS setup too.

Hi, did you install all the drivers listed on page 24? I have them all installed and my hotkeys work great. Also, go into control panel>system>hardware>device manager> and make sure there are no devices with ! marks.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

Almost all drivers can be installed automatically from the Asus Driver CD
the rest can be found on page 21

for hotkeys you need ATKOSD2(looks really cool, came w/ Vista), or ASUS ATK0100 UTILITY driver(aka, ATK Hotkey, looks a bit more primitive)
Check if you have ATK Hotkey installed under "C:\Program Files\ATK Hotkey\"

If you do, make sure HControl.exe is running, and run ATKOSD.exe from C:\Program Files\ATK Hotkey\ or ATKOSD2.exe from C:\Program Files\ATKOSD2\ and you'll have control of the FN keys

Also, is anyone else having problems overclocking w/ RivaTuner?
I don't know why, but I can't overclock; anytime i try to change the clock times it reverts back to default.

Did everyones power adapter come with a 3 prong plug? On top of the fact that its 3 prong, is the fact that the power cable is way too short.

I really wish they just kept to the industry standard of 2 prong.

how high are you trying to overclock it to? if your trying to do it too high that may be a problem, try only upping it but a little bit at a time.

whats wrong with 3-prong? id rather have the ground in there...

Has anyone achieved any level of success in unlocking the additional pipelines with Rivatuner? I've been working on it for most of today, (got my F3sv-X1 yesterday :)) and have made no progress according to Rivatuner's status (16SPs, 8ROPs). So far I've been trying to discern a pattern that would denote certain bits as SPs, and others as ROPs, but haven't even managed to change the numbers one bit. My next test will be to enable all bits, and hope I don't fry my video card.

I've just downloaded the Lost Planet demo for testing purposes as well. I haven't managed to see any performance changes or artifacting after changes, but I may not have been pushing it hard enough, it pegs Guild Wars at 60fps all the time.

I got a targus. has a HP logo on the front though. didnt spot it while buying.

where do you hold it while putting it in the bag's padding area? dont want to break the screen or something holding it at the wrong place.

this is where i lift from when putting in :

build quality is definitely not cheap! i find it quite solid and reliable

~1500$ is probably a bit cheap for its performance / quality :)

Ya it is definitley a very solidly built notebook, although I am noticing a little bit of creeking on the left hand casing of the screen, and after I unscrewed the bottom to add the 2nd Gig of RAM I noticed some creeking, probably my fault since I did not fully tighten since I dont want to scrape the screws.

    Otherise really good build quality.

It is polypropelene or plolyethelene plastic I believe. It is non painted plastic and is excellent quality. Its standard on most laptops. I wouldnt look at the materials, but more the actual method of build.

I got the messenger bag and mouse aswell. They are standard on non retail (by retail I mean Best Buy Circuit Cityetc). I think they are fine, but I might need a notebook sleeve so I can just put it in my school back bag.

Hi guys im looking to purchase this laptop in the UK. I have cancelled my order for the M1330 as it has taken so bloody long. Can I be convinced that this model will satisfy me since i play CS:S and BF2 mainly. Will it support the Intel Readyboost technology?

    Thanks

Here is where I will be buying it from. Anyone know any recommended sites in the UK?

Yes, yes, and yes, on all three of your questions. In fact, Eddie(Geared2play.com) has done some testing with Robson and the F3Sv, and GentechPC offers it as an upgrade.

Hello everyone. I purchased the F3Sv-b1 about 2 months ago and overall I've been satisfied with it's performance, although I've been most disappointed with both the performance of the video card, which was apparently underclocked by Asus.

Anywho, I've also been disappointed in the battery life, which lasts only 2 hours on a good day with the standard battery saving setting enabled. Anyone know how to extend the battery life?

youre gonna need a battery with a higher cell count. good luck finding that though. Otherwise...youre **** outa luck. The battery life for this system is abysmal.

I really would not consider abysmal. I have not seen any other systems with such specs that is able to push out 2 hours on battery saving out of a 6-cell battery. It is actually quite standard. If you really want 3-6 hours you are going to need to bump up to a 9-cell or a 12-cell. I think currently you can only purchase a 9-cell directly through Asus.

i play CSS all the time and i thiink it works great, it looks really good on this machine, i posted my video stress test results a while back (dont rememebr what page its on) but if you are interested i tested 4 different drivers and found that i get about 128 average fps.

this actually reminds me of a question i have, after i got my second GB of RAM back my fps actually dropped to like 83. Why is that? is this second stick of RAM slow or something? im really not sure what speed i got (it was on sale so i bought it, wasnt really thinking i guess :p)

Are you sure about that Fittserman. I highly doubt adding additional RAM will drop your FPS count. Make sure that the RAM you bought is DDR2-667, PC2-5300 ram, because that is the highest you can use on the Santa Rosa platform. If you bought a 533Mhz stick, then your both RAM modules will underclock to the lowest speed capable, and that might reduce gaming performance.

    Hi guys,
I've purchased this notebook one month ago, so far with no problems (ain't Vista a problem?), I've installed another 1 gig of RAM and I was very pleased so far.

But today something strange happened - I can't hear any sound either from sounspeakers or headphones. I reinstalled audio drivers (tried both from asus pages) but with no succes... It looks that I'ts working properly in windows but all I can hear is popping sound when headphones are plugged. Actually even the pop-up icon that jack has been plugged or unplugged in is not showing anymore. Sound doesn't work in any application I've tried. It worked this morning and I don't recall doing anything with the sound settings since then. Any idea? Every input appreciated

head to the control panel, under "system" you'll find the device manager. check and see if your audio drivers have a yellow caution sign beside them.

I just faced a weird problem.

I have a teammate with whom I would be doing projects. I made a user account for him. But when I try logging in with his, it doesnt and gives me an error asking me to contact the administrator.

    anyone faced it?

    Hi All.
Well got my F3SV-AK118G (Austrlaian Version) WSVGA+ Screen.
I looked for a new laptop for ages before setting on this one.
Overall i am very very happy with this notebook. Price vs built and quality is awsome.
My only dissapointments are the SPDIF output is on the front of the unit while video is on the side, a bit dumb really. Battery life could be a bit better.
Other than that it is a great unit. Hightly reccomended.

I dumped Vista and got XP MCE2005 on and it works great.
The only prob i am having is getting all the ATK hotkeys to work properly. But i am sure i will figure it out.

Seems like the service isn't running. run services.msc from the run command window, and check whether Group Policy client is enabled and running. IF it isn't, set it to automatic.
