F3Sv-A1 adds fingerprint reader, higher res screen, Light Scribe, and wireless n, and costs about $100 more.

You may want to consider the F3SA-A1 as well.

i think there might be something wrong with your laptop... try using rivatuner or notebook hardware control to see what your temperatures are... my fan virtually never runs and when it does i cant even hear it.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=86864

x1 has a lower screen resolution (i cant remember what it was though), a1 has higher resolution (1440x900)
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=131852

its the vista recovery partition, so delete it if you want but its not recommended.

not really, but why delete it? you have like 160GB you should save it until you actually run out of room.

    BIOS is F2 on startup

Any of you have ideas what to do?
My F3sv isnt so quiet! actually i think its a little noisy.. Fan at back on right side (i think its a fan there) is running at same speed almost always, and its not hot, Notebook Hardware Control shows 46-50c when surfing and easy things..

REALLY like this laptop, looks very nice, except the speed of that one fan.

Really bad if i have to send it to service already.. :(
Laptop came monday, and now its wednesday... then i will be without about 2 weeks..?

Will any updates help? is there something in bios that can help? or biosupdate?

And i dont notice any variation of the fan speed if i "clock down" the cpu with P4GXui, have tried to set it to only 20% , but nothing.. only the screenlight gets lower . Same thing in Notebook Hardware Control. Dont notice that variation of the "cpuspeed/performance" either if i clock down with P4GXui..

Hi, i was wondering if anybody has found the right drivers for xp x64.
I have the chipset, sata and wireless from intel's website and the video drivers from laptopvideos2go, but what about all the others drivers, like bluetooth, touchpad and fingerprint reader, hot keys....etc

    Thanks

    Hiya,

I just received my new F3SV-B1 with 2GB from Gentech !!

A question...which, if any, of the Asus installed programs do I need or are recommended to keep on my machine? I got rid of the obvious (Norton)...

    Thanks !

if u run your notebook in battery mode and it still makes the same amount of noise (idle) then you have a problem other wise its just due to the fact that its plugged in...

The fan speed is the same whatever i do! Tried to "clock down" with "P4G" and Notebook hardware control, also tried with only battery/batterysavemode but its absolutely the same fan-speed whatever i do, only thing thats happens is that the screen gets "darker"..
Have tried to reinstall P4G to, and updated bios.

Is it me who dont understand something here, dont know how to "underclock"?? or is it something wrong with my F3Sv?
And i think its really cool, in easy use its 45-50c.

Is it hardware or software problem?

Still loving the F3Sv, dont think i send it to service cous that, think i can live with that, isnt so noisy, but a little disappointet cous i think it could been better. Dont want to be without my F3Sv 2weeks+ while its at service.

from many cases of people sending in their notebook to asus, its only been a few days (like 3-4) not 2+ weeks. Your notebook is a good temperature, maybe try phoning asus and asking them the estimated time until you get it back, if there is actually anything wrong with it, if there is something you can do to fix it, etc..

I live north in norway, i think it will take at least 5 days (depending on where i have to send it) one way + Service,
Thats long time for me since i have been looking for this new laptop for long time...
But maybe i take a call to Asus tomorrow or monday.
Will be with tears in my eyes  if i have to send it to service.. :)
    Still like F3Sv..
When i ordered it i thought it has 1440x900, first after using it 1hour i discovered its 1680x1050, and 1680x1050 is looking very good.
Thought before that 1680x1050 would be 2 small, but its very nice..

im now having battery wear issues. at one point pcwizard reports current full charged capacity is about 40% of Designed full capacity.

tried the drain and recharge cycle a few times. it doesnt seem to work

my situation now is, at 100% full charged powergear reports about 100 mins of use, but after about ten mins it will lose 50% charge.

if the notebook dies from lack of battery charge. wait a couple of mins, turn it on and it will report about 30-40% battery life.

any suggestions to restore life in my batteries. i guess battery wear should be acceptable at 5-10%. and not 40-50%.

at high performance mode, it will only last about 20 mins playing CnC3. before this battery wear issue, it was around 45 mins

received this f3sv july1. can this be considered for a warranty battery replacement.

    Hello all,

I have been reading this forum since July and would like to thank everyone for all of their helpful info. I purchased the F3SV-B1 in late August and am very satisfied with the laptop. The only complaint I have so far is the short battery life, but I was expecting that. I did speak with a rep at ASUS and was told that the F3J 9-cell battery would fit the F3SV. She told me I could purchase the battery at http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=3582&catid=501. It is pretty expensive though and I'm unsure how much additional time this 9-cell battery will give me. I thought those of you who wanted a bigger battery should know this (correct me if I'm wrong though).

I have encountered only one problem with this computer, and a very minor one at that. I downloaded the directx 10 version of the lost planet demo just to see how well the 8600GS holds up but can't seem to get it to work. I have tried playing it at normal settings and overclocked with Rivatuner and nTune set at 650/550 but keep getting the same message in play, "present system performance does not meet the requirements to run the game with the current settings. Adjust the settings within PC Settings and try again. If problem persists, review system settings to improve performance." I have tried to adjust the pc settings within the game and the message still persists. This is strange since I have a friend with a F3SV-A1 and he is able to play the demo with no problems under the same settings. This is the only game I have a problem playing too. I haven't had a problem playing WoW, Overlord, Doom3, etc. This isn't a big deal but has anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Hi,

I'm looking at an F3SV as potentially being my first laptop, and serving as a general replacement for my very old desktop, and I have a question about the video card and resolutions.

I'm looking at the A1 and B1, and as I understand it, both have the same video card, while the B1 has a higher resolution.

Would having the same videocard running a higher resolution on the B1 result in poorer performance in terms of FPS in games and the like? Mostly I play MMO's, if that makes any difference.

One of my local stores has the B1 listed as being only $50 more than the A1. With that close a price is there any reason not to go with the B1 since it has a slightly faster processor?

Yeah, it's mainly just the processor it looks like. You may also want to consider the newly released Asus F3SA-A1, it has a more powerful GPU than those two, and the same CPU as the B1, but for a lot less money, even less than the A1.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I'll have to check around for Canadian sellers for that model. Newegg sadly seems to be under the impression that there's an impenetrable wall between the US and Canada.

    Edit:

Ah, here we are, the same one at NCIX link. With an extra gig of RAM for free. Not bad.

try ncix.com and milestonepc.com for two major canadian resellers, try shopping around alot though, i was able to find my laptop for $100 cheaper somewhere else and NCIX.com did a price match for me. (i didnt know the other company but i knew ncix so that is why i did that)

Alrighty, now I'm confused. You mentioned that the F3SA has a better GPU, but the mobile graphics info page seems to suggest that the NVidia 8600 GS is better than the ATI X1600, which I would assume includes the ATI 2600 HD.

Thanks. After some further reading, I see that they haven't added the ATI 2600s to the review page due to lack of testing data, but it seems like its just as strong a card, maybe better given what I've read in here of the 8600 GS in the F3SV's being underclocked? Of course, I suppose the same could be true of the 2600 in the F3SA (being underclocked that is).

Its weird that its significantly cheaper though. $1,339.99 For the F3A-A1 at NCIX, and $1,679.99 for the F3SV-B1. Or should I just take from the price difference that the B1 price is a rip-off?

The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 outperforms the NVIDIA 8600M GS, plain and simple. It's closer to the NVIDIA 8600M GT in performance, and as the drivers mature, it may be even closer.

I don't know about you, but the 1280 x 800 resolution on the F3SA-A1 is much too low. It would be more appropriate to compare it (graphic wise) to the F3SV-A1 or X1.

It really bothers me to see a card as good as the 2600 have a max resolution so low. Please correct me if my information is wrong (which in this case, I hope it is).

anyone know if I can run max performance on battery? I really wish i had known this before i bought the laptop, its the absolute worst thing about these laptops! It is near impossible to game on them when running wirelessly, which is BS.
just a heads up to anyone still thinking about purchasing...better off waiting for new shipments of that sweet cheap clevo, which im sure doesnt limit performance when under batt.

I don't know, I'm used to an old desktop running on 1024*768, so the 1280*800 max is unlikely to bother me. My eyes aren't so great, so having a really high resolution isn't that important to me. But everyone's got their own priorities.

AFAIK, the 1280*800 resolution listed for the f3SA-a1 is correct.

I'm looking at the specs between the F3SV-B1 and F3SV-B2 and they seem identical except for the turbo memory for the B2. Is that correct? Newegg has them for virtually the same price.

thats odd, ive heard other owners saying that 'super performance' is not an option when running battery and something is getting clocked down. My 'notebook hardware control'(great program, worth checking out) shows my CPU at being fully clocked, dunno if thats accurate though. However, every game i play will run slower. So if I have my settings to run a decent 30-40fps when plugged in, it'll lag when its not plugged in.

Im suprised CSS runs well, because I play Day of Defeat Source and my AC settings will lag when im running on Batt. Now I realize that im not gonna have much battery time running max performance, but I dont care! If I wanted battery life without performance I would have bought less of a machine.

Just a note, I was checking prices again today, and its dropped down to 1309.98 Cdn, still with the free 1G of RAM.

    Urge to buy rising.
