Yeah, I would have like no red spikes, but I suppose it will do. lol

I had zero issues with drop-outs or crackling.

So there is confirmation that a few people are getting 1066. That sucks.

    My stock memory rates 7.4 on Win7 test. 8GB @ 1333Mhz.

Also sorry to hear people have a crackling issue. I am not using Creative and have no crackling issue.

    I am just using Realtek.

Also it seems those of us who jumped on this on zero hour really came out ahead - $1400 price, fastest memory, no problems whatsoever, not even one bad pixel. -I have not had one even minor issue, and have even run dual displays and other funky stuff.

I think they must have checked the very first models off the assembly line extra careful- so those of us first got lucky premium models that were checked for extra quality control to be sure everything was working perfect.

    But wishful thinking.

These machines, like anything man made, will have a failure rate.

Hmm this may be a really noob question but why is there realtek AND creative on this laptop? My confusion here is that I though both were different sound devices/drivers. How does this work exactly?

The 6300 requires 3 antennas which the G73 doesn' have.

You can pckup the 6200 which is a 2 antenna card for $15 from provantage.

According to the specs, it's has twice the through-put even with only 2 antennas. It's 300mb/sec

The Atheros is 150mb/sec but I could be wrong. Honestly I have gotten 1 MB/sec download on a good server on the Atheros.

really? you guessed that my knowledge is based on cut and paste? lol

just like people says, no matter how good your explanation is if you have no evidence to backup your statement, no one will consider your data as reliable

ive based my suggestions based on personal experience(having Creative SoundBlaster Live! producing crackling/popping sound) and research and concluded that the problem may be caused by driver software issue and recommended some stuff that worked for me and other people

i could be right or wrong, i posted to help those people whose looking ways to fix the issue

General rule of thumb. Do not install Bios updates from the manufacturer that claim to add support for "insert random letters and numbers here"! haha

I would like to know what the heck it's for, but I would dodge it for now.

It's about 30 bucks everywhere, so that' not a bad deal. They're just playing a shipping cost game, which I hate but...

I am assuming all the newegg machines (and probably all G73's) shipped with 205 already.

I love it. Except it's on it's way back to newegg for a new one. lol

Yeah, the cpu fan connector pretty much just crumbled when I went to take it out.

Also, it looked as if someone at the factory saw it cracking and dabbed a bit of glue on it.

So, I love the machine but have to wait another week or two to get a new one.

    Woe is me......

I have absolutely no issue with mine, and I am a pretty happy camper.
    - no crackling speakers
    - no keyboard issue, i really like it actually.
    - hard drive is a seagate 7200 rpm same as in the dell and i bought an ssd anyway for my os like most of us will do ($129 AR , 7.3 WEI for a 60gb at newegg)
    - low end ram is bit tough, this is basic ram, as you would find in dell as well, and 1333 instead of 1066 is always even if the performance difference is well, almost inexistent
    - wifi card is annoying, works well dont get me wrong, but i would have like it to work at 5ghz, so that is definitely a con for me

this beast runs my games fast, quietly and does not become a hot potatoes, it kills my photoshop / dxo workflow, i am still amazed 4 times faster than my old p8800 an dbelieve dxo is killing all processors.
as always we only hear about issues. Since it is an investment, i'd like to keep, i will not overclock anything until i need it for real

Interesting as I'm a huge Photoshop and DXO user. I'll be doing more of that than games. Glad to hear that this works well.

I to am interested in getting an SSD drive but haven't used one yet. In the past if I was upgrading a drive I'd use DriveCopy or Acronis's imaging and just image the old drive to the new. Has anyone tried that yet or know of a program that does that in Win7? I don't think Acronis has a compatible Win7 one out yet. Other than this how would you be able to access the restore partition on the 500G while using the CD to restore to the SSD? Or I wonder if most folks are using another copy of Win7? I'd certainly rather do that and have a clean install.

We'll we shall find out how mine works when it's delivered on Thrus. Thanks for the input. ;)

Oh is that intel 6200 guys are talking about a 5ghz card?

This is turning into a nightmare. I rechecked all the rams. It seems if there's no ram on the bottom slot, system will not boot. The 6G, and 4G bug is starting to me off. It still says only 3.93G is avaible. If I restart the laptop, then it goes back to 4G!!!! I don't know what it is that's causing this. I am reformating at this point and hoping it helps. Gonna give Asus tech support a call and see what's going on.

There was only one good news that I found. Since I live in Wisconsin, West Allis to be exact[right by Milwaukee]. Asus has a notebook authorized service provider near me!! Near as in 2 miles away in Greenfield, so I'm gonna see if I can take my laptop to them and see if they can find out what's wrong with it. I used to go there alot, but their prices are very high on everything. Sometimes even more expensive then Best Buy.

that's why i said ask them first.
with i7's if they aren't seated correctly or are over tighten in the socket, usually the 5th or last memory channel wont work or it will show in bios, but not usable in windows.....

i only know about it because i rma'd 3 motherboards thinking they we're broke. and come to find out..that was not the case. then someone who had more experience about this sort of thing explained it to me and a few others. so i tested it again and sure enough...the channels worked. they said it was only the i7's though...didn't think it would carry over to the mobile line as well....but it's speculation until he can give it a try or have asus do it, but with him right there watching for verification purposes.

but how do you "over tighten" it? There are two settings, locked and unlocked. I guess the socket itself would have to be faulty then.

If you bought an X1, I would use 3m double sided tape. This will work fine because the drive weighs next to nothing.

I would fight for just getting the ram replaced if you can. (after you reinstall and the ram still isn't registering.)

I would hate to have to send the whole laptop in and have all kinds of monkeys working on this beauty just for a Ram issue.

Im definately leaning towards this rig as my Mobile graphics design station....

How many of you guys are getting memory issues? does anyone know if the motherboard will support triple channel? i dont have any issue removing a stick if it will actually run in triple channel mode.

also, can anyone confirm that intel matrix storage manager actually supports a raid congiguration on this laptop even without any firmware raid support????

also, has anyone been able to get a bios tweaked to allow for overclocking of the 720qm? I know that something built into the firmware allows overclocking with a 920xm, but not many peopl like the fact that this cpu cost as much as this entire laptop put together... lol... my current msi was able load a tweaked bios and overclocked a t9300 cpu to 3ghz stable, and bumped my 800mhz ram to run at 900mhz... does anyone know what kind of features can be unlocked in this asus bios? who actually makes the bios? and who knows how to modify it?

Not yet, and possibly never. I really hope someone cracks the bios though for the 720. The 920 is way too expensive for me!

For those of you that are having the missing/disappearing memory issue, why don't you check which BIOS your running and update it if it is the older one.

It is possible that may help.

    I'll second that!

I've been working on a Dell 1720 for the past couple of years, and I'm amazed at the step up in performance I get with the stock X1. After finishing updating all my apps and upgrading to Windows 7 Pro, I installed and played Bioshock 2 just for S&Gs, and couldn't believe the quality of the output I was getting. Sure, as far as aesthetics go, the G73 might not be a Lenovo or Macbook Pro, but with proper care, it should last just as long as either of them. Additionally, those high-end laptops can't beat the X1's price/performance ratio, nor they can they beat the X1's performance itself.

    This one's a keeper :)

I am planning to get a N (plus dualband) router to replace my old netgear b/g router as after i get the laptop i'll be one more using wireless in the house, and all of the notebooks around here support N.

I am also thinking of buying the Intel 6200 (probably out of ebay), does this upgrade affect the warranty in any way?

    Thanks.

ps. will have my g73 in my hands tomorrow afternoon :D
