put the number in the white paper on the back of the laptop !!!!
and if you do that I don't know what is the problem with this mail . -
1. My model came with a 3 cell and a 6 cell. I will get a 9 cell soon.
2. Mine is made in Taiwan.
3. I paid tax 150 euros +14 euros some weird POST fee.
4. About the heating, well, I gets hot when it is plugged in the wall. -
Congrats Wishmaker! You finally got it, then. Hope you'll like it as much as I like mine I take it you don't care much for the Vista? Are you planning on installing XP on it?
-
Thanks. This thing looks better in real life than in pictures. After I spent around 3 hours yesterday to make it work with my router/print/server/network I can say that so far it works properly with no random drops like the Ultimate I had. Anywho, I will leave this as my main OS but will create a partition to use Virtualisation and put XP . Maybe I'll put Leopard. I will give Vista another shot for a few months. If it seems that I can't do my job with it, I will downgrade to XP. What are the temperatures on yours? Mine, on both battery and outlet, fluctuates between 46 to 57, depends on what I do. GPU diode is always at 60. These temperatures are recorded in normal usage, no gaming or prime95 yet. I am planning some tests soon. Oh, and the palmrest on the left side is significantly hotter than the one on the right side, when plugged. This thing sends my Amilo back to the stone age. Oh, the finger print reader is a bit demanding . I love the vivid colours this screen shows. I saw some complaints on the board but I simply love it. I hooked it up to my external 19" monitor and the colors are nice on this Nvidia GC. They seem to be close to the ones I have on my X1900XTX.
I would like to thank excaliberpc again. Their service was impeccable, they replied asap when I had a question, the laptop has no scratches, broken parts, or dead pixels. I would definitely buy again from them!!! Oh, and if they see this message, please use better shipping next time. You guys have no idea how much I suffered these 3 weeks . -

Thanks for the heads up!!! I had 301 and I just updated to 304. I do not know how you found two drivers for the camera because I just checked and for the U6SG series there is one. The chicony .Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Quick question:
I followed a tutorial to make my laptop snapier and I installed the Nvidia 177.26 drivers. I am watching some HD vids and they are framing in some areas. This did not happen yesterday with the previous driver. Could it be the new driver? -
-
Okey dokey. Thanks. -
I have a friends U6Sg and am heling her set it up, I was surprised, she only installed skype and when you start vista it uses 1gb ram without anything open! even after using msconfig to stop startup applications it still opens using 900mb.
it has 3gb, so not a massive issue, and still runs fast, but would be good ot trim it down, anybody remove all of the Asus apps, seems to have a lot installed, how much ram do other U6's open with? -
-
Wishmaker -which gpu driver are you using?
Petrov. -
Can someone recommend a good, digitally signed, driver? -
always download the gpu driver that come from your laptop manufacture , coz sometimes they did some edit to be compatible with your computer ( such as tv-out ...)
-
I did that but the way I see it, Nvidia has 176.** and I am using 167.** . -
Day by day it takes longer for Vista to boot up. It took 4 minutes today and it is ridiculous. I am backing up my laptop and I will do a fresh install without all that bloatware !!! Does anyone have a link with a tutorial for the U6? I would not mind . If not, I guess I will learn by doing .
-
1- start your pc
2- put the recovery Cd's in your driver
3- push at ESC button
4- select boot from dvd-rom
5- then choose install win vista in 2 partition
6- and after it finished , put your cd driver
7- and install the drivers for hardwars
8- then come here and tell us that you finished -
Still in the backup process. On the Asus Recovery DVD it says that it will make the computer the way it was when I first turned it on. If I do that, I will probably end up with the same thing. What I will do, use the Windows Vista DVD I have that contains every version, select Business, finish Install, install drivers...I'll let you know how it went . Correct me if I am wrong, before I end up with an OS without the Asus functionality(keys, fn shortcuts, etc) and I will have to put the factory image back . -
No !!
use the recovery cd's that come with the laptop ( blue one ) and it will install the os without any third party !!
and then use driver cd to install asus functionality and drivers like VGA and sound card ..... -
Okay Boss . Will let you know soon . -
Be aware that if it asks you for the drivers CD during the install, do NOT insert it. If you do, it'll just put all the bloatware on. You should just force a reboot (using the power button), and when the system boots up afterwards, it'll be a clean Vista install. Then you can install the drivers.
-
It did not ask . I saved around 250 MB at startup. Could be better could be worse. I am installing SP1 now. We will see . -
It's not about saving disk space... it's about saving bloated registry, startup time, and memory, by not having all the stuff pushed down your throat
(If I'm reading your message correctly) -
-
I finished reinstalling Vista and my WEI went down from 3.4 to 3.3. I wonder why???
-
Nevermind the WEI, it's an unreliable measure of a computer's performance.
-
-
Perhaps the system was being solicited more when the WEI was computed, like more apps running in the background, an antivirus scan, who knows.
-
when I installed my W3J, because the drivers come on second CD as E.B.E says, just reboot without inserting second CD, unless yours are slipstreamed into one CD.
Anyway if its all installed, hit windows key + R and type services.msc, here you can change services from automatically starting to manual or disable, just note down what ones you change, so if something stops working you can turn it back on again, I shaved the U6 I was setting up from 1gb at start up to around 850mb still not great, but if it was my own I would have reduced it more. just keep an eye on the notes, it will tell you the ones that when stopped could cause problems. -
BTW. here's a tip for anyone with a U6Sg having problems with their audio devices: check www.realtek.com.tw/downloads -> Computer Peripheral ICs -> PC Audio Codecs -> HD Audio Codecs -> Software
Realtek is actually updating their audio drivers quite frequently - unlike Asus. I've used their drivers for months now, and I've not had any issues, nor any missing features... -

Yanno what? The more I read this thread, the more, and more doubts I have about choosing the Asus U6
-
-
u6 better than other 12' laptop ( performance and design )
-
I just filled in the Asus pick up form. I'll get my RMA tomorrow, TNT will contact me, pick it up, and they send it to Asus Holland. I waited 3 weeks, to use the laptop 6 days, and then I will need to wait another 2 weeks for them to fix it.
Nice ....this is how my brand new Asus U6Sg will become a casing for refurbished parts. I doubt they will replace my defective 9300 with a new one. Oh, I'll probably get some abused optical unit...
I guess my AMILO is a rare model 3 years and no problems!!! -
what ?????? what is the problem with your laptop??
why it need change 9300 ?? -
I'm really sorry for that :S !! hope they will fix it soon
-
The irony in the whole situation. The first time I had an NVIDIA card I changed it after 30 minutes. It was the best card on the market. TV out would not work, flicker issues, etc. I went back to the shop and I bought an ATI VIVO. That thing worked flawlessly for 5 years. Now, I buy the second NVIDIA based laptop and I have a similar issue. It always happens to me. If they don't fix it, I will send it back. If they don't fix it the second time, I will send it again. If they don't fix it the third time, then I will have a different approach. -
Nvidia : more heat for laptops more stupid issues !! that was i'm thinking to buy U6E with intel X300 instead in U6sg
-
-
Wishmaker, where are you located? If you're not in Holland it may take longer than 2 weeks to get your notebook back (my best time was 10 days and I'm in Holland, dealing with ASUS Holland).
On the bright side, don't worry, when they fix it they do a good job. No refurbished, just new parts -
Luxembourg. The dutch guy said on the phone, 7-10 working days. That is 2 weeks. It is frustrating. This laptop has been more on the road than on my desk. I wrote a nice document for the engineer will put it between the lid and keyboard. I think I will ask for a 3 Cell replacement. -
You mean an extra 3-cell as a compensation? I'm not sure they'll grant that at a first repair.
Yeah, they will say 7-10 days and I don't say it won't happen. It's just that it's not anything binding, and it may take longer. Though, Luxembourg is not very far so you're still OK. -
Got my RMA. They sent me this pdf document about how to package it. It has lovely section on what happens if you send your laptop with everything. WTF? They consider it as filling material and they might throw it away? What kind of approach is this? Oh, and what do they mean by this?
