That makes me feel a lot better . In any case, my laptop is insured with my gold mastercard(I pay a monthly fee for this). If something happens to it, I get my money back asap, or Mastercard will simply block the payment to Paypal. Getting the money back will not be a problem. USPS was the only option with Excaliber. By choosing USPS, Excaliber guaranteed that they can handle a package like that. The mere fact that they do not update their info says a lot. It is not my first purchase via the net, but I must admit my first transaction with USPS. I thought, they would do like you said, update every day and let me know what, where, when. On top of that, you cannot expect an outsider to know how the US post work. They will deliver my package? They offer a track service? I automatically assume I will know what will happen with my package.

Well apparently the computer made it's way from Fremont, CA (If you ordered at ExcaliberPC) all the way to NJI (NJI What? I assume it's New Jersey International. But International WHAT? I've never heard of New Jersey International. Do they mean Newark International Airport? If not, our wonderful federal employees might have been put on a train for international shipping)
That's about right for the USPS, 3 timezones in 10 days for standard package delivery.
Just pray that it arrives in one piece and not in a ton of little pseudo-slivered coffee grounds. -
-
On another note, good luck with the USPS. It can't take too long now that it's left the US, can it? Have patience... Though you've had more than your share of patience so far -
The postman still has 1 hour to come today. Who knows, wishful thinking . -
And to think all I have to do is walk into a store and walk out with one... Hang in there man!
-
You are lucky . Come on postman .
L.E: I guess it is not today. Postman came but no laptop. Nice one. -
Guys, i would like to ask if U6Sg-A1 can be downgraded from Vista to WinXP? I'm interested in buying one but i'm planning to use XP on this laptop instead of vista, since most of the applications and games i had here will probably won't work on vista. Thanks!

I phoned the following:
1. FedEX
2. UPS
3. DHL
4. Two private companies
Everyone said, they do not handle packages with my label. I phoned by accident the national post and as soon as I started mentioning the letters in my label the guy said, yeah, that is a package coming from the states. The guy was very helpful, wish I could say the same for the USPS staff, and checked everywhere and step by step everything. He said, even though they wrote the package for shipping on the 3rd it does not mean it shipped that day and it can ship today. The guy felt my frustration on the phone and said as soon as the package arrives he will phone me and will dispatch it on the spot. He did say, however, that this can be later on today, tomorrow or in a week. I cannot fault excaliberPC. I had a problem, they answered asap. They are very professional. Shame they used this snail service.
Finally I am getting someplace. -

Alright, I've been reading over, and in some cases responding to this thread. I believe I've settled on the U6 as my choice in the next month or so. I have a few questions for those that own the computers (or waiting for it as the case may be).
1) How are the hinges? Does it have that 'tall man in the breeze' syndrome that some ASUS notebooks do? (meaning does it want to fall down in either direction if I try to use it)
2) Without Overclocking or Undervolting, how is the heat output for basic tasks such as word-processing and internet browsing?
3) Someone told me there is a redesign going on with the U6 for the next few weeks. Is that true? What's being re-designed?
Thanks everyone! -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
I highly doubt any redesign is imminent. The U6, like all the other Asus models is awaiting the Montevina updates. This isn't going to change the chassis, but just some of the internal components. However, this is unlikely to happen until Aug-Sept with Intel's launch delay and Asus' historical tendency to wait 1-3 months after platform shift to make the change. In addition, the U6 just got the Penryn -sg update, so that would make it likely later in the Montevina update cycle with other models getting the refresh ahead of it.
-
I will be happy with the current U6. I just have to receive it .
-
-
It seems today is not my lucky day. Maybe next month I get it...
-
I think the guy rowing drank Redbull because the laptop is in my country being processed in customs.
-
Also, from the best I could make out in a very noisy and crowded room with someone with only a minimal grasp of english, there is no known 3cell battery issue! Acording to him and his demonsration, the cpu performance can be changed by buttons near the hinge of the lid. When in 3 cell, the performace defaults to power-saving. ALl he had to do was press the buttons into high performace mode. NOt sure if its laptop firmware or asus app.
Just reportin' the news... -
Then I guess Montevina platform fixed this issue, which means it is a bug in the Santa Rosa.
I was at the Computex too, and the Bamboo handrest was one of the most attractive features of U6v, in my opinion. -
-
Considering the issues with Montevina, I doubt you will be able to buy it sooner than september/october. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..

so guys, help me out here... i need ur suggestion/advice... help me choose, plz...
1. Asus U6Sg-A1 12.1" Notebook
2. Asus F8Sn-C1 14.1" Notebook
3. Asus Lamborghini VX3-A1B 12.1" Notebook
basically i've read and viewed video reviews on them but cannot decide, i need something portable, 14" is the largest that i will go for. I really like the U6 price wise, but i'm also a proud owner of VX2S, which i love to death but cannot justify the weight of it since i travel frequently and need something lighter.
my budget is about 3.5k; that's why i'm having a hard time deciding, i dont just to throw my money away IF asus comes back with something better in 3+months, i can probably wait for that long...
really appreciate your suggestions... (sry if this is in the wrong thread/forum) -
-
I can only advise one thing: wait for Montevina.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Asus, otoh, historically takes 1-3 months after a chipset update to refresh their full product line starting with those models that are farthest from the last refresh. They've done that with Yonah, Merom, Santa Rosa and Penryn.
They'll start with those that first got the Penryn cpu updates, and then work their way through the rest of the line. -
The ASUS rep said about a month for the U6V to hit stores in Taiwan, and another month again for it to get to North America.
-
i guess i'll have to wait few more months if that's the case...
thanks all for heads up and quick replies, this is truly an awesome site...
1+ -
A quick question. What advantages does Montevina have over Santa Rosa?
-
Montevina - 1066mhz FSB -
But a simple FSB bump will not noticeably increase performance. That would mostly account for 1~3%.
What about power saving features, or any performance related features? -
-
Update on my U6. Still in customs. They are saying I should get it on Wednesday. Nice one, I won't be home so I will have to chase down the van pipol . Better yet, I will call them and ask them to ship it at work .
-
anybody notice asus that has released all winxp drivers??? Check it out on the support site..
-
1 Day left, according to them . Phoned the guy from customs today and asked him if he could change the address and send it at work because I won't be home tomorrow. He was like, you know, I don't know, uhm....so after I told him to move his fat ass and push some buttons, he changed it. How difficult was that? Then the eternal talk about VAT(15%) and the additional post charge(14 euros) for being priced higher than 350 euros . I am already fed up with this laptop and I don't even have it. I don't do anything else than track down people to ask them when will I get this. Geez, I ordered on the 23rd, on the 27th USPS got it and on the 10th of June I don't have it. It has been 13 working days, which is 3 working days over the maximum delivery time USPS said. They said between 6-10 days.
-
Hope that you will receive yours soon coz from the first time I read this thread I always read you don't receive yours yet I'm waiting for big review for your laptop when you received it
-

it's better to make a new post to review the laptop and here just put the link for the review !!
I'm going to USA on 3-7 next month and I want to buy one from there so i'm waiting for review to encourage me to buy this model instead of Sony SZ !! -

Congrats! You have just learned something about American culture that you probably did not read in school.
It's widely known over here. Good luck during the holiday seasons. Usually I have something nice and put 'FRAGILE!' on the box. As soon as I give it to the local guy? pfft, I just watch him toss it in a bin.
Next year I'm going to write. "It's FRAGILE you P.O.S." (but actually write it out)
Yes, let us know. I'm waiting to order my U6 until the last possible minute (wishful Montevina slash U6-V availability in the US) but let us know how the thing does it's thing. -
I thought only european post offices were crap . Will let you guys know, definitely. The cherry on top would be, when I open the box, to see fallen keys from the keyboard, hinge broken, scratch, or dead pixels on the screen. I don't think I will be able to wait another 3 weeks for Asus to replace it. I think they will have to lock me up in the psych ward!! -
-
the most important thing for me is the heating coz my country is so hot and this will annoying me !! and if you can tell us how is the screen outdoor ?? and what about the build quality is it from plastic or aluminum ?? and I will buy it with 9 cell battery ! is this will be annoying when i use it in university ??
Thanks in advanced !! -
Build quality of the U6 is excellent. The chassis is made of aluminum alloy and has almost no flex. External temperatures are decent. Temps on the keyboard average about 84F while the bottom 93F. The screen is quite bright and very viewable outdoors (about 300 nits or cd/m²)
The 9 cell battery will stick out at the back and the annoying factor really depends each person. -
thanks emporiumboutique for your kindly reply !
-
Guess who is coming to dinner? I am using it now and I was shocked to see how many boxes I had to open to get to it. It was packed in 3 boxes!!!First impressions?
1. It attracts a lot of attention.
2. The keyboard is very nice and very soft.
3. The screen is amazing, bright and colours are nice.
4. The touchpad might rip my skin off my finger. It is true that I have sweaty fingers atm, but the the touchpad on my Amilo is different. Maybe I have to get used to to this one... -
I have a question. I tried doing the 360 thing on the Asus website and I got this as a message:
