when you upgraded your cpu in the g51 did you have to remove the screws on the GPU and add thermal compound to it also or just the cpu

You can lift the heatsink off the CPU and northbridge without messing with the GPU heatsink.
For my opinion, though, if you're taking the time to fix up your CPU I'd take the time to fix up the GPU as well. -
Thanks for the review, it was added to the ASUS Info Booth and to the ASUS Reviews and Owners' Lounges Index!

Like I've said, I've replaced my CPU and reapplied paste at least a dozen times without breaking the tape. It was only through a random spastic finger moment that I tore it off after fixing hte GPU for the second time.
Maybe I just had special tape. Eh. -

More like a special finger. Michael J. Fox laughs at you.

I meant my tape was never completely connected to the heatsink in both notebooks I had.
And where is that avatar from? -

Hello all. I bought my asus laptop from BB yesterday. But before I really start working on it, I need to know this answer.
I've read at different sites, that some people do a clean install thus removing all the crap that came preinstalled but there wasnt any vista installation dvd & I know it doesnt ship with one. So how did they do a clean install? I'm assuming by downloading it off a torrent but thats backward. Am I missing something?
And naturally I'm asking here since this lounge belongs to fellas with the same asus model
And did any of you guys do a clean install thus removing all the asus bloatware? Or just uninstalled some of it & then customized it?
Until then, I'll wait to overclock, undervolt, install dox drivers & more radical stuff -
While installing, if you just use Disc 1 of the Recovery DVD's, and when it asks for your Driver and Utilities disc, you just cancel it and reboot, you should have a pristine vista install with no bloatware.
-
If u don't want to do a clean install, then you don't have to. Just follow this guide to help you decide which programs to uninstall. -
nvm all that cause I installed win 7 & I aint going back
I have 2 recovery dvds that came with the laptop & a recovery partition sitting in the laptop, so if anything happens in the future I'm good.
I was working on it past few days & finally have it overclocked CPU & GPU & everything is gr8888. -
where is a good place to buy a cpu for the g51 i'm looking for a t9600 or something better
-
what thermal paste did you use for your new cpu. also what is a good website to buy a cpu. i looking for either a t9600 or something higher
-
Ebay always has great deals.
The best thermal paste I have used to date is IC7.(Synthetic liquid diamonds!)
How much $$$ are you willing to spend for a CPU?
You want it new or is a ES OK? -
i looking for a new one but whats the difference from an ES and a new one -
I want to spend at least 300 to 400 dollars
-
cool specs on you laptop what CPU are do you have -
I have the P8700 OC'd to 3.1GHz.
-
What do you think of the X9100 proc? Found a good deal and I would like to add that to my G51 BB model. What do you think? 3.06 to start is not that bad. Also I couldn't find in the post were you got the screen replacement from. Mind putting up another link? Anyway thanks for all the help, this really helped.
-
the X9100 is pointless in the RX05 as the bios does not allow you to use its unlocked multipliers. you'd be better off looking for a T9900

How good is the screen resolution on this laptop? Can you see the pixels from close viewing distances (like 13-14 inches away) and is the Core 2 Duo overclocked to 2.4 ghz enough for 97% of all games? Do any of you Rx05 owners doubt getting the 1366x768 screen much or is it a pretty nice resolution for the size? Also, has anybody tryed putting Win 7 on this laptop, if so, does it work good?
Edit- Also is the heating issue much of a problem? Its relatively safe to get refurished one, right? And its a little off topic but if I ordered an open box laptop at Newegg does the Asus warranty still apply? -
Come on guys, anybody?
-
I think most RX05 owners would agree that the resolution is sufficient for normal use, you get used to it very quick and its not terrible. The 1366x768 res allows you to run most games maxed out. However, if you compare the screen directly with those on other laptops, it does seem less sharp. The viewing angles are also not the best.
the P7350 is sufficient for every game that I have played, for example Crysis, NFS: Shift, COD4.. (maybe not so much GTA IV, which is a very CPU intensive game, but it still ran at 25-30FPS on HIGH details at stock 2.0GHz)
I'm using Windows 7 on mine atm and it runs very well
Hope this helps -
nice review!
learned alot more now about the rx05 -

Hey everyone! I'm out of my league here (I've never gamed), but thought if you want to really stress out your CPU/RAM, this is what I use:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/IntelBurnTest-v1.6-download-2047.html
I don't overclock or anything like that, but whenever I buy a new system, this is run to verify that first, the CPU/RAM is stable, then; that the heat/noise produced is acceptable to me (at a load probably no other program can push the CPU to).
Cheers! -
yep, IBT is the best tool I've found (courtesy of soviet sunrise) for testing. It brings my CPU a good 8C higher than Orthos stress test. Maxing my P8700 @ 42C.
-
Nice review nd all but it would have been good for comparisons sake if you could have run the far cry and crysis tests without overclocking the gpu each time. All tests have different cpu and gpu clocks so you can't really get an idea of what difference the cpu clocks (and cpu upgrade) does to the fps since gpu clocks are being increased as well. i.e. just keep the one variable.
I say this because I'm not sure if upgrading to a T9600 is worth it or not. I only use this to surf the net, do uni work and play games. The P7350 works fine but I have this feeling that it's bottlenecking the system and I kind of crave a better cpu just for the sake and satisfaction of having a better cpu. But that said, I'd hate to upgrade, not notice any difference and think 'well that was a waste of money..' -
The p7350 overclocks fairly well (to 2.3 to 2.5), and unless you think the extra 400mhz (going to a t9600) is worth $300 ...
Also, most games are GPU bound, with GTA4 being one exception. I didn't care for the game much, so it didn't matter at all to me. And if you want to play gta4 that badly, spend the $300 on an xbox360. -
Does HP ship parts overseas?
-
A little off topic, but... We have the exact same table and chair set.
