Hmm, I just looked at that link again, and it looks like the item is out of stock at the asus store... so...
Anyone know where I can get one of thee brackets!?
-
-
But some people have used them without the bracket for some time without problems. -
Thank Abula. I see you have an x25. How is that working out for you? Everything you dreamed it would be ? I feel like the difference is going to be night and day!

Is the G51 like the G50(considering where the hdds bays are)?
If so,I assume it only comes with one bracket, right? If that's it,I think I will just attach the second hdd with some scotch tape,it would hold it nicely.
Lol,forget it,I saw that there is a picture of this area on the main post,it's the same. -
-
They don't ship to where I am. .I'm going to improvise a permanent solution.
-
go with the Soviet Solution, cardboard.

My brother's G51 has had a problem recently booting because he encounters the error:
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc0000034
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information
We tried using Setup Repair, however it is unable to fix it. I read that having the full Vista Install disc can help, but has anyone else had this problem? I haven't had this problem on mine so any help would be appreciated. -
Did u delete any files cause sometimes there are files hidden where u can delete it by accident so i do reccommend the reboot disc from vista
-
I have a question. I am wondering if it would be possible to add another small battery to the bay drive. because A friend of mines did that to an old dell laptop but i dont know what series He modified it by making a battery that fits and redirecting the wires to the laptop energy capacitator so he got more battery life. it sounds complicated but he did it. u can ask any questions so you can do it yourself
-
I am unsure, he just told me it wouldn't boot today. Which reboot disc would I use? I only have the discs provided by ASUS.
-
you probably want to bring it to a profesional if it doesnt reboot.

I seem to have an issue with the stock HDD or something. I've recently noticed a tremendous amount of noise and activity. Light noises, but it happens even during idle. I've shutdown numerous applications to try and see if it's trying to access something repeatedly, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Scandisk says it's fine, I'm bout to install some 3rd party stuff and test. The HD light is on, and it comes and goes. I have minimal programs and like 4 games installed from stock, plus updates.
Sorry if this is the wrong post place to post, but just wanted to see if it was normal on this notebook, or should I treat it like an issue.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -
I'm having an issue after upgrading to Windows 7. The audio seems to not work, I've tried this driver Audio_Realtek_WIN7_32_WIN7_64_6015892 from the ASUS support website to no avail. And I've also tried the Vista 64bit one and still no luck. Here's the weird thing, it seems that when I leave the computer for some unknown amount of time the audio kicks in by itself. Not sure what is causing that but hoping to get this issue solved.

can you install a bluetooth module on the RX05?

so, i downloaded the 186.81 nvidia drivers from the nvidia website just a couple days ago. a pretty good performance boost in some games. however, in mirror's edge, when I have physx enabled and break glass etc. the game slows down to a halt. with the stock drivers, i had physx enabled and it was playable. it never dropped below 30 fps. but now if i just shoot some glass or something in the game, it will go all the way down to like 3 fps and stay there. did i somehow uninstall the physx drivers? are those even separate from the video drivers? i did the driver sweeper thing after uninstalling, but only selected to remove nvidia display drivers. nvidia physx properties and mirror's edge both say that i do have physx. so not sure what's up. if anyone else had any physx problems after updating from stock drivers, let me know. i want to figure this out badly. i don't want to go back to stock drivers just for physx.
-
Try upgrading to 186.82 and see if that fixes it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=412578
-
hm, still no luck. =\
i just uninstalled and reinstalled the physx drivers, that seemed to work. -
G51vX-RX05, it only can install core 2 duo? no QUAD?
-
The RX05 cannot recognize quad CPUs.
-
Guys has anyone tried Windows 7? Any game performance boost as compared to Vista SP2? How do i get the drivers,or are they downloaded automatically with the update?
-
hey guyz..i have some question..
do guyz have a overheat issue about the laptop?? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
No, only gurls.
And no, it doesn't overheat in the sense that it'll downclock/shut down on you. However, because of Soviet, the stock operating temperatures make me squirm a bit. -
Quick question.
Does the G51Vx-RX05 have the ability to turn on Intel VT-x for hardware assisted virtualization? I was thinking of picking up a refurbished G51Vx-RX05 and swapping out the P7350 for a T9900. Was just wondering at that point if there's a way to turn on VT-x extensions in the BIOS.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Kermee -
I believe that yes, there is. you'd have to have forge confirm tho, as he has a T9900 atm. but it should be an option in hte bios (it is for my X1A)
-
Would really like the G51Vx-RX05 be "dual-purposed" for Gaming and Work/Development. Having VT-x would make VMware extremely happy =)
Cheers,
Kermee -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
There is indeed a VT option in BIOS.
I don't touch it though, since I have no idea what to do with it. -
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Well, I know the wiki information. I just have no idea how to use it.
-
Enable it in bios. instal virtual machine software. enable VT in said software (should be an option) install the virtual machine. voila.

Hi everyone i am considering buying this notebook, are the heat issues people have been mentioning pretty much just one or two peoples experience, and unlikely to be an issue? i plan on using it with a cooler.
I have also been recommended the G71GX, but its about $300 more expensive and i don't like black fingerprinty finishes -
-
Still $200 USD more expensive than the G51VX-RX05, would the G60 be better than the G71GX-RX05? it is only $60 USD more,
Thanks for your help -
Anyone know when the free windows 7 upgrade will be shipped. Mine says pending for fulfillment or something like that.???
-
-
My bad, got a little post happy...

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
This isn't in the right board.
-
Forge,
I recently purchased the ASUS G51VX-RX05. In the BIOS, I have the option to turn on VT-d, but... the P7350 CPU doesn't support VT (right?). Since that is the case, I want to upgrade to a CPU that is capable of VT and of course have a higher clock speed.
I notice that you mod your ASUS by replacing it with the T9900 CPU. Can you provide instructions or point me in the right direction on how to replace the CPU?
Also is the laptop compatible with all P8000 series and all P9000 series and is it capable of supporting the Core 2 Quad Q9000 mobile CPU or Core i7 mobile CPU? Oh, what socket does the this laptop have and what CPU goes with that socket? Sorry about all these questions. Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks! -
While i'll let the real experts answer most of your questions, I can say for 100% certainty that the RX05 model can not support the Core 2 Quad.
-
it also cannot support a core i7. it can support any P or T series CPU iirc. it is a Socket P motherboard. I'd recomment a T9900 for max performance or a P8700 for cool running and moderate performance.
-
I've had the laptop for about a month now, and I really do love it. I exchanged the main drive for a 500gb, 7200rpm drive. I was wondering though if it is possible to raid the drives on the Best Buy model? Any help would be appreciated..

It is wrong. you cannot upgrade to Quad core CPUs. this has been confirmed, many times.
-
And is it because of the Socket P (BGA instead of PGA) that it cannot do Quad core? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
The socket should be able to support it. Rather, it's the motherboard revision that screws things up.
By the way, if you want a killer CPU, I have an X9100 on sale. -
I had to do a clean install using discs sent by Asus. I put disc 1 in CD drive went to a page told me this was for asus laptops only. Then it said put in disc 2, went throough an installation, then it said put in driver disc, did that and it installed drivers and utilities. It booted up and finished installing all drivers etc. Then I noticed I didnt have home premium anymore, it was ultimate.... and when I tried activating it I get an error.... I never had an option of choosing ultimate or anything it just installed that... and I was on the internet when trying to activate. What is up with this... Anyone else used their discs and have similar problems because I called Asus and they want me to send the laptop in for RMA... Yeah that isn't happening, I think they must have gave me some hacked version because I used magical jellybean key finder and it has a product key and when I type that key in to activate error 0x0000349 or something of the sort comes up. If my free copy of win7 would come in this wouldn't be a problem. What screw up is happening next Asus please inform me..

I read something about Socket P, but what is Socket P? Can it support processors design for BGA479 and PGA478?
oh, and how much you selling it for?
