Huh. Something seems off, there.
Try an hour without your cooler--off your cooler, too, since aluminum will help heat--and and hour on the active cooler. Try, say, the first mission in Crysis.
And you're in a desert. Outstanding temperatures.
As for your other post, I'm loving my X9100. Granted, I'd probably be loving a P9700 just the same, since I haven't pushed the CPU in any sort of manner, but hey, bragging rights are bragging rights.
Bery easy. Before switching out my CPU, I have had zero experience working on an computer's innards, desktop or laptop. Youtube is a godsend.
Well, the above is not entirely true. I did slap in a new hard drive in an old desktop, but that's not nearly the same.

cool, thanks
from what i've seen it's just two screws holding down the heatsink onto the cpu and then a standard yank and replace
did you get new thermal paste? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
It's actually six screws. Two indeed hold down the CPU, but four down the GPU. Since the heatpipe is shared by both, you have to unscrew all of them. Other than that it's yank and replace.
I used Artic Silver 5, Arctic Silver two-step cleaner, and a putty knife to apply the paste. -
Sweet Im in a very painful process of buying a X9100 (I hate paypal sometimes)... But yeah, once I can get it, i'll be all happy
So I tired without the cooler on Crysis (high) playing for 2 hours and my temp MAXed out at 87 with an average of 80. Then I played Arma for 2 hours on medium to high and top temp was once again 87 with an average of 82. My Idle temp was all the way up to 58 at times. So I put the NC2000 back on and only played Crysis for about an hour and was at 77 max (average 74)... an Idle of 45 *I waited to play until my idle temp was at an average. Im prob gonna download something else to monitor temps to make sure I dont have a faulty sensor or something, but if these temps are accurate... I suggest the NC2000 -
My friend suggested that maybe the thermal paste melted to fit the system right but this uses a heat pad if I am not mistaken. So... I dunno
-
One more thing, while my temps have dropped, I do have an issue. Whenever I reboot, if has gone from taking about 40 - 60 sec to boot to abut 2-4 mins.. is anyone else having the same issue? I dont have mad programs on my computer either because I operate off of about 6 external harddrives (5TB's).

I really do hope your computer somehow got cooler but...
Could you crosscheck your temperatures with other programs, say, GPU-Z and Everest? -
-
I've replaced the proc on a desktop before but never on a laptop.
Did you notice a huge difference? -
GPU-Z, Everest, CPUID HWMonitor, all the same. My computer in Idle went as low as 25 today. The power went out on my pad and,as u kno, Iraq is hot. So it went up to 85 until the fan kicked in and it went back down to 40ish. But wen the AC kicked back in the temp went to idle 40 and high 74. I contacted ASUS and they said some of the G51's run cooler but they couldnt explain the sudden drop. I'm gonna wait to install a X9100 until im sure everything is normal.
-
A 25C at idle? Wow.....you either have a terrific laptop with everything running at perfection or there may be problems with your temperature sensors. I can't imagine all of them going bad at once though.......
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Fox, what about your other temperatures? Are they lower than before as well?
-
just as he foxfire said idle temp quite low but as soon as you start doing something temp will increse very fast!!!
-
Wow, the lowest Ive seen my G51 is about 35-40C....
-
Yeah but not that drastic. My cpu idle is like 24 but once I start using it it goes up to 35 - 40. And my HDD is always around 30. Sry I cant post pics, its hard with this spotty internet I have out here
-
This is a quick one I just took. I was currently loading 5 youtube vids on one screen while watching a movie on another screen. As u can see, my min is 26 (at one point that was my average)
-
Wow....I think you might just be extremely lucky.....what is your ambient temp?
-
about 70 - 75 degrees Fahrenheit, depending time of day and heat index outside
-
Picked one up this evening, so far I'm very impressed for the price point.
Anyone tried it on an HDTV using the HDMI out?
Thoughts? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Damn, I think, heat-wise, you've gotten an anti-lemon. Have you fixed up the boot problem? -
This is after just looking on forms and ebay (no videos)
-
-
just want to know.....if i buy a cooling pad...will the temperatures (both cpu and gpu) decrease??...i dun know if this has been asked before...but cudnt go thru 108 pages!!!!..
i am talking abt the unmodded laptop, i.e. the original G51VX-RX05!!! -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
A cooler will always cool down your laptop, provided you get the right one. For example. Asus laptops suck air through intakes on the bottom and blows the heated air through a vent on the left. If you get a laptop that sucked downwards, you might heat up your laptop.
But for blowing coolers, yes, there is a noticeable difference. My Zalman NC2000 is full of awesome. -
can u give me the link to a cooler for G51VX-RX05??...not expensive but gud enuf??..for not getting temps like 97C

foxfire, just by any chance, do you have anything plugged into your esata port and hdd turned on when you start your pc?
I remember my G1s used to hang as well when my esata port was plugged in and restarted, dunno why though. -
Nothing in my esata, but alot of usb plugins
-
Is there any other laptops i.e. Msi, Ibuypower, etc. That come close to the performance of this laptop for about the same price. $1100 is about as much as i wanna spend so any suggestions
-
The G51 BB model is the best for what you can get with that budget. -
I found a real cheap intel core 2 duo E8435, which is the MAC's version of te X9100. They guy says it works in PC, and all the specs are the same, but is it safe to get? Or just fork up the extra money for the X9100???

Hello guys. I bought the G51vx from BB about 2 weeks ago. I'm finding the keyboard doesn't register a lot of my keystrokes with a light tap and I was wondering if it is just my machine or if anyone else is missing key strokes. I use this laptop for work and business so missing key taps is not something I can live with.
I bought this because I wanted the lighted keyboard but I don't like the apple style keys. Maybe its better on a apple but I find normal laptop keys more responsive. Anyway I was wondering if anyone else find they have more typos on this keyboard before I decide if it is worth contacting Asus.
Update: Well I contacted Asus and I have to say I'm not impressed with their customer service and I'm starting to regret I didn't return the unit before my 2 week window lasped. Basically they told me to go to best buy to see what they can do for me. The only thing best buy will do is ship it off for 3 weeks. Im just wondering if this is what my 1 year warranty from Asus will consist of. -
I haven't had any problems with the keyboard not registering keystrokes.
-
@Synergi
The Best Buy model's warranty are technically to be handled by Best Buy, not Asus. Thats part of how they keep costs down.
There have been no reports of any problems with the keyboard for the G51. -
No keyboard problems here.
-
you think it will be better for me to sell my g50vt-x5 and get this instead? in our BB its around 1,050.
-
Don't sell it. The GTX 260M isn't that much more powerful than the 9800M GS while the P7350 is worse than the CPU in the X5
Save your money and buy a more expensive laptop in 2 years or so. -
Hrm, I've only tried with one TV, but has anyone else had any difficulty hooking up a TV hdmi style?
-
-
-
I'll figure it out. -
Hi, I have a question.
Can you plug an external monitor and have it run with a resolution higher than the G51VX-RX05's native resolution? I am thinking about buying a 21.5" monitor and using it with my G51, but I am worried that I might not be able to use it with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Thanks. -
-
And by the way, I love your optimization guide. It was part of the reason why I chose to go with the G51 despite all the caveats. Keep up the good work! -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
But better enough that you should go through the hassle of selling it and paying more money? Probably not. -
You say the 260m GTX is better, how much better than the 9800m gs. I can get a G50vt-x1 with a 9800m gs and 2.26 CPU for $729, Vs 260m GTX with a 2.00 CPU for $1050. Which is really a better deal? I thought the 260m GTX is way more power than the 9800m gs, and 512mb vram vs 1g Vram? I would go with the G51 if its worth the $300 more. so is it?
-
-
I would only recommend against getting a G51 if you already have a G50 and want to sell it in order to get some money to buy a new G51. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I'm seconding Tev. The G51 is a superior computer, but not superior enough to go through that kind of headache,
-
My brother is going to college this fall, and I am recommending to him to get the G50 because its cheaper. He will never use it to its full potential anyways, but I wanted him to have a decent gaming machine.
Also, I did some serious 1080P gaming today, about 4 hours of L4D and TF2. Also attempted Fallout 3, COD4 and Mercenaries 2 at full HD. All worked wonderfully, but of course the Settings needed to be tweaked a little bit.
L4D and TF2 worked flawlessly at max settings. Fallout was set to High, but it was still a little laggy. COD 4 was playable, but I should have turned the AA to 2x. Mercenaries 2 worked great with 2XAA.
The GTX 260M is an amazing graphic card, and I was just blown away that my LAPTOP could run these games at such a high resolution!
