    1. The speakers are as loud if not louder than the speakers on my 17" Gateway Laptop (meaning pretty loud).

    2. Built in mic works great. Already tried it with Skype. However, the 0.3 MP webcam is a downer but not horrible.

    For everyones sake, including mine I am going to update the list of utilities so that anyone who wants can keep up. Thanks to terryw for aditional items that can be removed.

    List of neccessary and optional items to keep on your ASUS UL30vt-x1.
    What is necessary:
    ATK Hotkey (if you want the hotkeys to work anyway)
    WinFlash
    ASUS Power4Gear Hybrid (if you want to be able to switch gfx and activate turbo)

    Optional (Can be usefull at times. Add graphics to hotkey switches and quick change features for the most part.):
    FastBoot
    ControlDeck
    ATKSOD2
    ATK Media
    ATK Generic Function Service

    I just did a clean install on a ocz agility ssd. How do you overclock the processor? I have Power4Gear install but do not see turbo anywhere.

    I don't have a 30vt (expecting an 80vt to be delivered Monday, but I'm following this thread in case I decide to return it and get a 30vt).

    But a while back I bookmarked a thread in the ASUS forum here in NBR where a user listed the ASUS utilities, what they do, and whether you need them. His post is from May, so the list of utilities that ASUS installs could have changed, but this is the link in case it is of use to anyone here who is trying to determine which ones keep and which ones to un-install:

    I give up, just gonna install fresh copy of windows 7 after I have some time, just way too many apps I don't need, and even after I remove them they stay in the notification tray.

    hehe

    I ordered an Intel G2 80gb for my UL30vt. Anyone know the boot times on it with an SSD in? Any teasers and spoilers on the performance boost will be appreciated while I wait for it to come in.

    Is this the enclosure you use iClicku?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=vantec_enclosure-_-17-392-019-_-Product

    I ordered this enclosure to hold the hdd since I have an intel g2 80gb on the way. If it is, how many of the USB slots does it need for the external to run off of it?

    Its fast! Less than 30 and between 15-20ish. I don't know how to activate turbo unfortunately. I don't see turbo mode anywhere in the power4gear software or the bios.

    From what I gather, in order to over/under clock your CPU, you need to restart the computer for the change to take effect.

    Hey guys, I heard some people say they were going to do a clean install. Could anyone shed some light on how they are going to do this. Are we able to use the included Recovery DVD to copy over to a flash drive and clean install from there?

    Or, are we able to boot to the recovery partition, and clean install from there, or are we only able to 'recover', meaning having same pre-loaded apps as from the beginning.

    Any information is provided. I would love to be able to clean install with the included DVD + Flash drive... or are we out of luck unless we have our own copy of Win 7. Thanks.

    No thats not true or at least not for me. Click on POwer4gear. In the bottome left there is a button that says Turbo Mode. Click it and it will warn you about overclcoking and then forces you to restart. I am not sure if aditional drivers are required for this.

    I found the solution! Download the ATK Generic Function driver from the ul80vt. You may need to download the power4gear as well as the driver contain turbo33 files.

    glad to know im not alone :)

    I also accidentally deleted ATK Generic Function Utility - A utility that allows for communication between the ACPI and all the shortcut keys. This utility should not be uninstalled (Thanks metril for providing this information from another thread)

    Does anyone have a link to it? or what category its under? I cant seem to find it on Asus' website :eek:

    thanks,

    *edit, ok thanks, I got it from under UL80vt instead of UL30vt and now the turbo button shows up. (i accidentally deleted this utility earlier)

    3DMark06 Results @ 1280x768 (Default for a 1366x768 display under free version)

    3DMarks = 3470

    SM2 = 1383
    SM3 = 1383
    CPU = 1579

    Not to bad... The CPU itself is about three times faster than my Atom N280. The 210M is about twice as fast as the 9400M, which means for the most part, the 9400M is bandwidth starved due to the 32-bit shared memory system.

    I only opened this thing up about 60 minutes ago. I installed my Indilinx 64GB SSD and a fresh install of Windows 7 as I did not want to deal with the crap ware. So far so good...

    By the way, the machine is just beautiful. It was smaller than I pictured (that is a good thing) and the quality seems superb. I will post some more later... Right now I am going to run LOTRO on it.

    I know I'm being a bit of a nag, but I really have to be sure because sending it back won't be an option...

    Could anyone who's got any standard 13.3 sleeve (case logic would be best) confirm the UL30vt fits in (I'm worried the sleeve would be too small rather the the other way around), the reason I'm asking is because I wrote the notebooks measurements in the case logic website thingie and it came up with sleeves for bigger laptops than 13.3.
    Also the sizes they specify for their product (as in "fits sizes...") are slightly smaller than those of the UL30vt.

    This laptop easily fits the 13 inch sleeve that came with my Dell XPS M1330, it is smaller and alot easier to fit than my xps

    Excellent, thank you.
    The reason I'm a little OCD about it, btw, is that when I bought my current Sony SZ through Amazon, I also purchased a Sony Vaio 13.3 sleeve in the same instant, ended up slightly too small for the laptop, had to be stretched.

    Im searching for one also.

    From amazon ul30vt web, has 2 specs (one at the bottom and one at the details).
    From amazon Caselogic PLS-13 web,
    From caselogic web,
    Width n height seems fine, only the length might be tight, but hard to say with so many specs out.

    According to this post, he has an ul30 and the Caselogic PLS-13, might as well PM him to ask hows the fit.

    Both are great drives, there is a huge thread in NBR only about SSD, SSD Thread (Benchmarks, Brands, News, and Advice), probably better to ask there about ssd. I own an Intel 160gb x25m, and been great, no problems at all, if i were in the market for one, i would buy the same drive, but i hear good things about the Turbo Vertex series, but i dont have any experiences with it, might as well ask in that thread.

    Well, I have been using the laptop for three days. The battery life is great with wifi on, the laptop can really stay on for 7- 8 hrs (9-10 hrs with screen brightness to lowest, which is still decent)

    The build quality is perfect. Don't feel there is any flex to the keyboard

    The turbo button is in power4gear (its in a big red button at the bottom of the program, turbo mode should be automatic on though

    not sure about Win7, but in XP you can go to start/control panel/network & Internet connections/network connections/ then go to properties of Wireless connection... configure your wireless card in advance tab. and set power saving mode to maximum... this should give you mroe battery life

    Played LOTRO for about 40 minutes and the battery went from 77% to 50%. I would say you can get a solid 2 hours of gaming on this system unplugged. One thing I just noticed is the huge delay in my typing on this keyboard... The post I am typing now is having a hard time keeping up with my speed. A bug? I am not sure because I do not recall this being an issue... The keyboard speed is set wrong or something because holding down back space is sluggish. I am on the high performance mode too, tried a few others too.

    Battery Eater 2.7 at full screen brightness came in at 2 hours and 5 minutes. Add another 25-30% for the 5600mAh battery.

    FYI the keyboard issue I am fighting has to do with this forum script specifically... I have never encountered it before. I copy and pasted the same sentance and timed how long it took for the back space to remove it all holding it down and it took 4 times longer when doing it in this post.... Strange... and annoying as hell.
