I remember reading somewhere, that CPUz doesnt read the multiplier correctly (on the SU C2Duo) and thus that is why you see 2.13 when its in the 1.7 range.

That is the case except that you still lose a year of warranty. It just means 2 years total combined instead of 3 years.

Right? THe UL30A-A2 with the heavier battery is supposed to come in at 3.7. This has the lighter battery and the only other real difference is the addition of a BT module and the graphics card. I believe everything else is the same right down to the case. Not that a couple ozs one way or the other is going to influence my purchase.

Maybe the A-2 never did weigh 3.7lbs.

Hey, I just received my UL30VT today as well and so far I'm loving it. Anyone with the other UL30 models find any good cases for it? This laptop is way thin and small for most 13.3'' laptops that I have seen, so I'm afraid buying a conventional 13'' sleeve may make it sag and be loose inside. Much thanks in advance!

Thanks for this. The UL30A-A2 I had would of been lucky to see one. Just comes down to one decision now. Pull the trigger or wait for the A1 version :)

Agile Electronics and Inhop are pretty competitive with US pricing. I just hate knowing it will probably be weeks before they get it, and then a few more weeks before prices start to drop. (at one point Inhop had the A2 on for $816 CAD and shipping around $10)

since the ul30A-A1 is $793.59 and the ul30a-X5 is $691.55 now, you can probably expect a similar price differential.

the ul30vt-A1 version will likely be 899.99 (or so) when it comes out in a few months.

i suggest doing what i did, just make your own A1 and get a 5600mah battery for 105 bucks off of ebay. the price is basically the same AND you get a spare 4400mah battery. i don't need to discuss all the ways a spare battery would be cool for a notebook like this (20+ hours, anyone?), but to me, it's worth more than the 1 extra year warranty.

    ul30vt-x1 (with 5600mah)
    + 4400mah spare
    + get it now

    vs.

    ul30vt-A1
    + 1 year warranty
    + silver color

the first seemed like the better deal to me.

Well except if you are talking UL30A-A2 I have seen it for as low as $744
(California Computers as I type this) so then the battery upgrade and warranty are only a $50 difference

true. the price difference will be anywhere from 50-100 bucks. but keeping the original 4400mah battery has to be worth something, right?

i just bought a replacement battery for a 3 or 4 year old VAIO VGN-FE660G (the old battery died), and it cost me about 45 bucks. :-/

    You mean onhop right? ;)

Yeah, they've got amazing prices on their laptops and GREAT service as well. If you order before 5 you WILL get it the next day. They're fast!

The UL50Vt offered on onhop.ca only costs $870, and that's for the A1! I expect that the UL30Vt will cost around the same, and I'll certainly buy ASAP. It's a little wait, and I'd rather have it sooner, but I suppose I've waited long enough and can wait a little longer still.

Except in Canada, Amazon.ca offers the UL Vt's for a ridiculous $950. It's way expensive even considering conversion. If the UL30Vt is around the same price, it's better to wait for the A1 from a retailer that isn't gouging their clients.

go to notebookcheck.com, they list just about every mobile cpu in order of relative power.

also, they've run benchmarks for most of them. very useful.

It looks like the overclocking built in (turbo 33) makes a huge difference. Look at this comparison of benchmarks: http://www.pcmag.com/image_popup/0,1871,iid=246378,00.asp

Th UL80VT has the identicle internals as the UL30vt.

Look how much faster the overclocked ul80vt is compared to the other CULV processors (like the stock ul30a without turbo mode.)

The UL80vt(and ul30vt) measures nearly as fast as the HP DV4 with its t6600 2.2ghz processor... which I actually find shocking. As posted before, I've been looking at the Sony Z w/p8600 (2.4ghz), and the ul80vt benchmarks about as good (both roughly 3600 pcvantage, 45 sec prime)- again, shocking to me.

I have no idea why a 1.3ghz culv processor overclocked 33% should benchmark competetively with these machines. Maybe someone else can explain?

    Look at PCMark Vantage:

    ul30a:............su7300(1.3ghz):....2648
    t3810:...........ul9400(1.4ghz):.....2800
    Macbook pro:..p7550(2.2ghz):.....3191
    HP DV4..........T6600(2.2ghz):......3947

the Ul30vt and ul80vt have the same processor... same as the ul30a, but overclocked...

    ul80vt............:su7300 overclocked: 3698

That is just a huge performance gain. It puts the Ul30vt in an entirely different league than other culv machines.

I agree. It's almost not fair to compare this machine to other CULV models. This machine is definitely a competitor to Z and SZ series notebooks from Sony.

Thanks for the comparison pics. I was really amazed that the overclocked UL's compete on even footing with p8400 class machines like the sony z- and game better. Its hard to justify spending more just to shave 5 oz and add a dvd player.

I guess maybe I just need to find a really small and light USB powered DVD player...

I purchased the recommended external dvd drive that was shown on Amazon. It was like 50$ I believe and can be stood vertically. Now its time to hunt for a proper case that will protect my baby and allow room for the external drive and brick if i choose to bring them with.

I been reading they are really good sleeves, just wondering if it would fit the ul30vt before buying it, maybe you can help me.

From the specs in amazon, Black ZEROSHOCK III 13.3" Laptop Notebook Sleeve, click 1new
Checking amazon for specs for the ASUS UL30Vt-X1, has 2 specs one at the bottom and one in the details,
Both spec length seems larger than the sleeve, but maybe it stretches idk, never own one to say, or maybe the specs aren't right on either of the sleeve or laptop, just wondering from an owners opinion.

Is it possible to safely overclock it further in turbo mode? raising it to 2Ghz istead of 1.75? I figure most people would only use turbo mode when power is plugged in anyways. I would love to know if its easy to tweek the GPU and RAM too for overclocking.

    speculation that there's a 5600MAH which will be a UL30VT-A1 coming soon
