Trusted Platform Module. If you could access the BIOS I would say turn it off but since you can't...

thanks for the precision
however i'm still stuck with this problem and I tried everything does anybody know how to clear the bios (maybe this would disable this **** TPM) ??
thanks in advance -
On some machines there is a reset button on the bottom of the notebook, with the icon:
> o <
If you have it, try it (unsure now if the notebook has to be on or off while doing it).
I think the TPM specs require that it is disabled by default in the BIOS so who knows, you might get lucky. -
So New Discussion Topic: Video Quality going from Laptop To TV.
I have been using the S-Video Cord I have at home to go from my laptop to the TV and I notice a significant quality loss...... What can I do? (My TV is a great HD TV so I dont think thats the problem) is there a different cord? a certain type of S-Video Cord? Is there something super obvious that I am unaware of? Other than S-Video out on my laptop is there another option? please help, Im trying to do this because my friends and I have gotten addicted to Command and Conquer 3, and its fun for the people who are not playing at the time to be able to watch me on the big screen as I play, but it gets annoying when you can't even read what we are typing to eachother and its kinda blurry....
Thanks!

hello again, sorry to bother you people, but, i have vista 64 bit, so that mean i cant use rm clcok utility to fix the tee noise, somebody knows another solution?, and another thing, my webcam is fine, just a few days, apear a blue screen, and my computer restar, someboyd knows why?, for your atencion, thanks.

Bap: I installed vista64bit ultimate but I too couldn't work out rmclock even when i followed suggestions and hacks in other threads. So i went back to 32bit vista and i find it whole lot faster than 64bit(fast as XP imo) . have u installed all the 64bit drivers? intel seems to not care about driver updates so try to go to hardware manufacturer to download the newest. USE 64bit nvidia graphics card driver from laptopvideo2go.com to go to fix blue screens.
Tomgrm: whats happening? First off S-video is just crap nowadays. Use VGA for your HD tv. It is a bummber that our notebook doesn't have HDMI but VGA is not bad at all try it! it is just like big computer monitor as for sound--- go to radio shack get a cable 3.5mm to red/white stereo sound . I have tried our notebook on 50"HDTV using VGA and played madden, NFS, CS:source and wow it looked so awesome.
Directions: just use your existing LCD/CRT monitor cable and connect one side to the laptop VGA out(blue) and the other to the HDTV VGA input(blue) and use nvidia control panel to configure-pretty easy

Hi, does someone know about drivers for NVIDIA PhysX? It would be awsome to have own physics card for free.
BTW: Got notebook back from repair - they told me it was caused by bad drivers (for GFX they have installed older drivers than those from drivers CD ) but notebook now finally switches off. -
Hey guys, i'm new to these forums so hello
I've had my S96S for a while now, and over the last few months I have started to encounter problems with it. One day when I turned it on it just refused to boot up. It powered on okay but there was no display. I tried everything I could to correct it, reseated all of the components and tried it with a single stick of ram etc, but still no display.
It then got sent away to ASUS and arrived back about a month later after supposedly being fixed with a bios update. Upon putting the components back in and booting it I found it had the exact same problem still. No display on boot. So I asked around at my old place of work and they said they'd had a similar problem, and the only solution they found was to keep reseating all of the components until it finally booted. So I did this and after about 5 or 6 tries it worked. I was a bit annoyed about this but took it home anyway as it appeared to be working fine again.
Then a few days ago it starting having the exact same problem again. I'm a bit reluctant to send it away to be fixed again if all they're gonna do is fob me off with a bios update.
Have any of you got any idea as to what it might be or a possible way to correct this? Any help would be greatly appreciated as i've tried everything I can to fix it.
Thanks -
please don't double post. I deleted the new thread where you posted the same question.
As to a solution. I suggest RMA but make it clear that BIOS update didn't fix the issue. It can be many things, though, so e.g., they may change the motherboard and then it fails again because it was the GPU... or something similar...
The only reliable way to fix this would be to get an entirely new machine, but I'm unsure whether you are entitled to after just 1 repair. -
Thanks for the quick reply, and apologies for the double post, I didn't realise it was part of the same forum. Yeah I guess RMA is the only solution, I just hope they do more than flash the bios this time.

Did any of you hear about the Nvidia graphics problem pertaining to the G84 (8600 series) and the G86? Reading about it stating it affects all the G84 and G86. Nvidia says it only affects HP parts but I doubt that. Anyone else have info on this?
-
-
I don't think my notebook video card is affected. So far, i have not seen it act "goofy".....
-
same, the only issue i've having is the occasional screen freeze for about 10 seconds. Good thing that I have a three year warranty on my baby in case something goes wrong.
-
Hey, so i've had my s96s for about a year now but im new to this forum. Just wondering what people are getting for gpu and cpu temps at idle. My gpu tends to idle right around 78 C and cpu is typically in the high 50s. Seems a bit high even for a notebook...
-
Maybe it's time for a dust cleanup... (see the cooling guide and also Coriolis' ASUS-specific guide in the Info Booth)
-
thanks, ill see if i can get my hands on a tube of arctic silver as well.
-
in the summer time it is really not that bad. the max cpu when gaming is 70deg celcius and idle is 52deg and i have never seen the graphics temp break 90 during gaming-it is usually around 85degrees(i play CS some times) and the gpu idles around 68deg celcius.
You should definitely try my arctic silver guide for our notebook model. Arctic silver 5 on Gpu and cpu helps the temp tremendously and always clean your vents with compressed air.
My lappy still runs good as new( i take car of it-regular cleaning and maintenance(defrag, delete, etc)) thanks Asus -
Okay, this has now officially become a problem for me. You know a while back some of us were complaining that the mini firewire port on the front of our computers....the one that the device manager labels "1394 Net Adapter".....isnt working, and in the device manager there is the yellow exclamation mark next to it, and that the cd that comes with our laptop does not have a driver that fixes this problem? Well I gave up on it a while ago hoping that I would just never need to use it. Well now I need to use it be cause I don't want to have to buy an external firewire card - if my laptop comes with one built in!
Has anyone fixed this issue? Or has a working one that could upload the drivers for myself and others that are having this same problem?
Thanks!
PS My bios is 0113
Also, does anyone know how to make our hot keys for the windows media player next and previous (Fn F11 and Fn F12) work in iTunes? -
I don't know if the FireWire drivers are separate or included in the chipset drivers. If former, maybe you can find some related notebook that has drivers listed.
But I think they are not separate, they aren't on my V6J at least (as far as I remember, I never actually used firewire).
So in that case, you could try upgrading your chipset drivers.
Another thing is that you should check the FireWire device in the DevManager for conflicts with other devices. -
mine says RICOH OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 adapter under the IEEE host bus controller tab in device manager.
-
what bios are you using? -
i am using this bios http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=204119&highlight=s96s i think this is the "newest" bios for our notebook. i have been using this bios for like 8-10months with zero problems.
Now for the RICOH driver---in device manager driver details it says that the driver version is 6.0.6001.18000 and the provider is Microsoft dated 6-21-2006 so, if u have windows vista like me, u should try to the update driver using device manager "update driver"--see if that works. Unfortunately, i don't have a copy since, i never had to download a special driver for this firewire connection. -
Well, Satdog, i think you are wrong about the newest bios version.
The newest bios version i've got from a friend, from brand new s96s is not 0602, but 0701 (01/08/08). By the way it doesn't solve problem with freezing in games, as i was asking for help earlier. I'm thinkin that the freezing in games may be the faulty graphics card, as i heard about the problems with gf8600 chipsets. I'll finish my actual project and i'll send my notebook for warranty repair. Hope they'll fix it:/
If someone's interested in bios 0701 (01/08/08) for s96s here is the link:
http://barrysspk.republika.pl/S96S_0701_010808.rar
Greets for all s96s owners... -
Thanks for providing the 701bios, i will give it a try.
If you experience freezing in games, it could be that faulty 8600GS. I am not really sure if our 8600 is defective but i know for sure a lot of 8600GT are affected by the manufacturing quirks... -
yeah, now that I think of it that random freezing of everything could be related to the faulty 8600m GS. I think i initially disregarded that possibility because I remember satdog telling me that the freezing is a driver related issue. So far I've kept my temps at 62-64 C with a notebook cooler I've bought (just because of this nvidia faulty video card issue). I just don't want anything happening to this notebook when I really need to use it in the middle of school.

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=Z96S&SLanguage=cs-cz new bios 803
The freezing in my case was caused by bad drivers of net card (Realtek). -
Well I screwed something bios flash probably failed nb not booting nor starting when pressing On/Off button (no leds etc.). Any advice? I was trying to flash 803 I guess, hard to tell since I can't reach desktop
Some laws of physics are unbreakable my day should look like: 1st day in new school year, backup all, format, new os instal drivers then go to work. Only positive thing from this for me is Never ever flash bios when your pc is not backuped and 320GB WD E Passport is laying next to pc. Murphy laws or something like that...
I can't understand why this bios has no failsafe code... nearly all motherboards has it. -
MiSHAK: 0803 bios is for Z96S, not for s96s. I think it may be the problem of failure. U're saying that your freezing was becouse of bad network card drivers. What drivers have you installed that stopped freezing? Maybe i have the same problem...
-
AHHH! I think the graphics card on my notebook crapped out on me! Help! The colors are basically inverted but not really... Black is now green and everything is almost like double vision. This happened all of a sudden while running Zune, anyone know whats up or if theres by some chance is a fix to this?

Hey guys, as of yesterday I think the fan over my processor is periodocly hitting against some plastic in the case because every 15 seconds or so I hear something that im pretty sure is a fan spin up faster than click... its not loud but I notice is. I took off the basic back case where you can see the video card fan but it isnt that one. can someone post some step by step case removal instructions to get to the processor? Im new to taking apart lap tops so i dont want to screw it up by doint it wrong.
Thanks!
Tom
any ideas other than cleaning it to fix the noise? -
hey now worries , its not hard...... i posted a guide earlier....
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=138778&page=34&highlight=AS5+guide
post#335 Good luck -

no, its not the tee noise, i know what that is, and I was one of the lucky ones that didnt get that. this is new and I know what it sounds like, but all of a sudden today it isnt doing it..... so i duno, im just going to hope it doesnt come back before I take it apart I think.
Thanks guys!

Hey guys. Just wanted to post and let people know that I discovered a fix for those bothered by the keyboard flex.
I pulled off my keyboard tonight and placed sticky double sided tape strips all over the area where the keyboard sits. I then replaced the keyboard, and there is virtually no flex whatsoever! I think the main problem was that the keyboard bubbled up ever so slightly in various spots, and by keeping it down it has eliminated the flex.
Pretty simple and cheap fix for anyone willing to tamper with the computer a bit. Just thought I'd share. -
wow mitsurugi , great work! i would like to try that.... can u post some pics? instructions...?
Tomgrm: did u find out the problem? -
-
Let me know if it works for you or if you need any more help. The keyboard is so much nicer now (although I usually use an external one anyway because I do a ton of typing).Attached Files:

thanks! mitsurugi
Tomgrom: there might be hair or something in there. remove the heatsink and give it good blow or brush -
Id like to first of all say.... Thats what she said..... ha!..... Thanks Ill check that out next time it bothers me and I have free time! good call! -
New Question:
So i have decided to upgrade the hard drive in my laptop from 120gb to 320gb to avoid having an external hard drive anymore. What I really want to do is buy the hard drive from newegg and do some sort of data transfer so I can just copy the entire existing hard drive onto the new one so its like I just added more memory to my machine. Do you guys know of a good device that isnt too expensive to do this? Also, would I need to Fdisk my new hard drive before doing this.... as in removing my current one, hooking up my new one, FDisk with windows XP install CD, then remove.... and then do the data transfer? or is there an easier way?
Thanks!

A good option for a one-off HDD cloning is Acronis True Image Home, trial install.

Hello to all, I'm new to Asus notebooks. I bought a S96Sp bare bone that came with BIOS version 701. Everything works great on it with Vista Ultimate 32. My question is where do you find updated BIOS? I couldn't find anything on Intel's site and Asus support didn't list a S96Sp. Thanks in advance.
-
hummm.... intel says there is no downloads for s96Sp. Just a note, intel provides all the drivers but they do not update any drivers(atleast for my S96S). R u having problems with the notebook? you can try your reseller , sometimes they have beta bios
-
As website(CZ) of seller of mine notebook claims all drivers are same as for Z96S.
Default network drivers were doing BSOD (in Vista x64). According to google search results it is quite common cause of blue screen. Simply download new drivers from intel or asus support site and update them. Mine notebook is KO so I can't read version numbers
BTW I think 177 series of beta drivers from nvidia were pretty stable (I was using one of them about week without a glitch). Probably 177.98(Vista x64) but I can't say for sure.
-
No, I'm not having any problems, I thought it was strange that there wasn't any. About every other notebook that I have ever worked on has had a page some place with drivers, utilities and BIOS downloads. Thanks for the reply.
