Real quick before I head off to bed:
What's Penryn?
Thanks for everything.

Penryn is the next wave of cpus from intel. They are based on a 45nm fabrication process instead of the current 65nm. They are also quad core.
They will probably rock the socks off what we have now People are estimating 4ghz+ on a stock air cooler will be possible with an overclock easy.
They will require a new mobo/socket tho.
However there will be a cut down dual core version that can go into the bearlake chipset mobos. -

friday can't come soon enough, my sleep has been bad alll last weekend and this week so far

Penryn wasn't a gigantic leap in performance. Some testers reported that it was a 40 percent increase compared to a modern quad core BUT they reported 18-22% of that increase was due to the fact that the processors tested were different clocks. So thats like a 20% increase but the point is penryn really isnt meant to be performance but energy conservation. Its merely a die shrink and it will have huge effects when comparing battery life. I find penryn rather pointless if you want performance while you should just wait for the new nehalem processors which will come out 1 yearish from the release of penryn and is a complete new micro achitecture which some are actually calling "core 3" but which has nothing to do with having 3 cores but the fact that is so vastly different from penryn and core 2 duos that it is considered a new generation of their processors. I need a laptop and got the c90 because it fits what I need but if your in no rush dont get penryn because when nehalem comes out you will be kicking yourself in the ass. Not to say penryn isnt great the new sse4 instructions, new production materials (also lead free? go environment!), new 5-6 stage power modes of the processor which will increase the battery life. But just like all new things expect to pay a hefty premium if your buying it in the first few months of its release. But then again Nehalem's die shrink Westmere will come out 1 year from that in 2009 on a 32 nm die shrink. Lately its gonna be impossible to keep up .

Just an FYI for everyone, my bank account has officially been charged...we all know what that means

No way! I hope Gentech has started shipping! I am so ready for this laptop.

I ordered one from Gentech last week and haven't heard from them yet. -
A couple weeks ago...from Gentech...I guess I'm just lucky?

I just checked both bank and GenTech's order status page and neither had changed yet. *sigh*

Okay, this is unsolicited advice, and I genuinely feel this way:
A fileplanet subscription is worth every penny, if you are a gamer.
EDIT: I ordered some time in May, middle or so. OKay, my order page says the 15th, so the exact middle =P -
Thanks, and why the mention of Fileplanet? Did I miss something? -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
I also got overnight shipping -
BTW,
Did you ever get an e-mail from GenTech regarding your status, and did your status page ever change from "Processing"?
Thanks. -

Still processing, but Ken said he was going to begin charging when he got wind of the shipment (i.e. not until after the C90s were on their way here)

Looks like its begun! I am tempted to go buy mine now but no need I'll wait for every bodies feedback on it first and shop around for my parts. I only have the HDD right now (its so small and light compared to desktop hdd's its strange to me)
Id really like sombody to test 4gb so I know if I should order 2x2gb next time a good deal pops up on the ram deals thread, or just save some money and get 2 or 3gb.
I have a strong feeling 4gb wont work, but if they enable it in bios it may.
Also waiting for more feedback on the 2600xt, with performance comparisons to the 8600gt, and for the option for blueray/hddvd to ship with the unit (not that I would get that tho its probably too expensive) -

Wanted to share somthing I just found. One of the big reasons to get the C90 is due to how desktop cpus are much cheaper than the mobile versions.
The C91 is due soon that will use a mobile cpu, most would shy away from it due to the cpu prices but....
http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-2728-view-Intel-mobile-core-2-duo-price-drop.html
looks like they are going down in price alot here in a few months, so this may make the c90 much more appealing and also make the reasons for getting the c90 abit less important.

Divide your number by 8 and you have the numbers to compare to mine. Also any other games (fear yes is next on my list) of good demos? Stalker or such? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah but the desktop c2d still more powerful and overclockable.

It seems the t7700 will be 360 which makes it around 105-120 more then the e6600. Still this is only a rumor while it may be true this is third quarter annoucement probably and wont make a showing till september or late august which for me is too late because of college.
Not too mention how long the c91 will take to come out. Asus will officially announce it and so on. While the c91 may make a smoother transition to the market I dont think it will be available before mid-late august. -

What is the difference between the T7800 and the X7800 aside from 300 bucks?

Besides that not sure if there is a diffrence.
In this case tho you notice that the xtreme chip is not listed at the end, and the new 7800 is not listed untill the end. Looks like they are just replacing the X7800 with the standard T7800 and droping the price by 300$. -

Wierd. But I've got a question. About the Asus C80- will it most likely have same battery power and life as the C90?
-
I e-mailed Ken at GenTech, and he said they weren't in yet. I wonder what's up.
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
They may not be in, but they could be on the plane from Taiwan.
-
So will the battery life of the 80C be similar or better than the 90C, based on past model comaprison of Asus?
-
i want to buy the cpu separate from gentech but i'm not sure what i need :3 and I don't know how the heat pipes in the c90 work but i don't want to break it :x
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
the C90 is really easy to put together, the heatpipe setup is all one piece, no diffrent than puting a desktop cpu cooler on really.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Well Bto tech's site has said the freighter has left from taiwan and that it was confirmed late june for a couple of days now. Also gentechs site has removed mid-june whether it be because well its past mid-june or they are almost ready. I spoke to a female representative who called about confirming my credit card authorization and I forgot whether I asked her when they were going to recieve the shipment or when they were going to start shipping but she said early next week so I hope I asked the latter.

so then if i install the cpu myself will http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115002 work?
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
yes, all conroes will work, except for Quad-Cores
-
ok wow thanks for the fast responses lol, I haven't kept up to date with this stuff in a number of years so i'm a bit overly cautious
