Just got mine a couple of hours ago. OS (Vista Ultimate) was installed by the vendor (Cyberpower). Nothing from the ASUS disks was installed. Rath or er than bloat it up, is there a list or reccomendation on what should or should not be installed?
Only prob so far is the WIFI card, I cheaped out on the Intel 3945, and simply cannot get it to pickup the IP from my WIFI. Has a static IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xx (Prefered) subnet 255.255.0.0. Connects bute cannot get it release or renew. Have it hard wired for now.
Any help appreciated. -

ohhhhh no.....Cyber Power is awful, just pray your computer never has any problems, because they aren't about to help you with it. But congratz (the 4965 card is awesome though.

Got it, bad driver, updated it now I'm on WIFI.
I'll keep trying, can't find the references to freeware temp and HD utilities, can you point me there? -

OOOh cyberpower big mistake. Have heard nothing but bad things about them. Though some did get decent computers they still have problems and those were the lucky people. (This is personally along with forum people). Good luck I have heard the customer service is horrible. Advice is download latest drivers from intel for the card. I can't help too much without more specific information. Like do you have a security set up? Whats your router and isp and do you know how to log into your router setup and isp setup?

The UPS tracker says that my package is at the local center, but I don't think they'll send it out for delivery tonight. Does anyone know if they let you just drive over there and pick it up? (OBX's drive to philly comment made me think of this)
-
i would just call and ask, better call soon though cuz they close at 7pm
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer

Does anyone know for sure yet whether the C90S will work with the e6750/e6850 processors? And where can I get a spare battery for the C90S separately?
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
They won't without hacking, and any of the resellers will sell you an extra battery, whenever.

EDIT: moved to a new thread

Also how come none of the reviews you guys made is under the official notebook news and reviews section? We need to spread the good word of the c90.

Hi all, thanks for all the info on the c90s in these forums. This is my first post, but I enjoyed reading everything.
I just had to vent here for a second.
I pre-ordered a completely assembled c90s from Gentech on June 27 with 3Gb of ram, 250GB 5400 rpm hard drive, e6700 processor. I patiently waited even though I could have canceled and gotten the laptop faster from other places. When talking to Ken, he mentioned that the order was just delayed because they are doing more extensive testing in normal mode and gaming mode etc. So I was comfortable with that.
I just received the laptop today, only to have it immediately blue screen and reboot when entering gaming mode......usually within about 5 seconds without doing anything else after switching. I haven't had time to investigate further, but after all the build up, and wait, I was very frustrated to say the least....especially after coming from Gentech fully assembled. -
-
... okey that is discouraging ...
are you sure nothing got loose during shipping??? I mean after all the testing how could it still crashed?? from what I gather Gentech test the configuration and ships them only when they are working... -
Yeah, I think I will probably need to RMA. I just think Gentech should have caught these incompatibility issues before shipping. Especially since I was specifically told that the system would be tested in gaming mode.... everyone makes mistakes I guess. We'll see what Gentech says. I haven't gotten a hold of anyone yet.

Well, I just looked over the laptop. It didn't seem like anything was loose. Next, I am going to try pulling out the ram and seeing if that is bad.
Also, I just got off the phone with Ken from Gentech, and he informed me that they probably did not check gaming mode before shipping. As I mentioned previously he told me that part of the reason the unit was shipping late was that they were checking each unit in normal, gaming, and overclock mode if applicable. That, of course, is not the case. He said a few days ago they found a problem in the bios which affects some systems and causes this problem. They are currently holding all c90s orders from shipping until this bios update is complete....hopefully next week.
I know that the system is still good without the gaming mode and everything. At least it is useable. I'm just disappointed that Gentech let this problem, that took me less than 5 minutes to find, on a $2000 purchase, slide through the cracks. Especially since gaming mode was a known problem for other people, including Gentech. I wonder what kind of test the other resellers are doing in comparison, probably worse
In any case, generally speaking, this laptop sure seems to have some issues. -
Im going to stay positive that I wont have any issues ill let you guys knowone i get it... though im still looking at one -one and a half weeks of shipping since Im on southamerica (ordered through a local courier service)
hopefully if I get any issues theyll be software related and can be fix with bios patches...
Edit -> i havent shipped the trakcking number just shows that a label has been created... still i gues its best to get aproblem free system... though its getting annoying -
you'll be fine.
Does anyone have links/driver suggestions for esata? I tried it tonight, to no avail. Had an enclosure for IDE internal to (both avail) usb/esata external...had no luck so far with the drivers off asus's support.
nvm...thing seems to onyl support esata if its sata on the inside -
Hey everyone, new to the forum. I am planning on getting a C90 within the next couple weeks. I am confused about the parts that are stock on this machine though. When I go around to order it, what do I need to get separate?
I know that the CPU, RAM, HD, and OS needs to be ordered separately. However, do I need to tell my shop I'm ordering from that I want the 8600GT and DVD combo drive with it? Or do I need to buy those separately too?
Any info would be useful
Thanks -

Where are you buying from? You can buy the laptop with all the parts fully installed for you from online retailers unless you want yo build the laptop yourself.
Where I and alot of people bought ours from:

I'm buying from a local computer shop in my city. They are an authorized Asus dealer, and my plan was that I'm going to be installing the CPU, RAM, and HD myself.. and the gfx card if needed
-
Hmm. Goldo, that's interesting. I'm going to have to try gaming mode. I still haven't done seriously extensive research on the problem I reported about on overclock mode yet. It takes my C90 a little over an hour though to reboot. I'll check out gaming mode tomorrow and do some testing on overclock mode to see what's going on.
I hope the (really) new bios comes out soon. -
I don't know wheteher I should buy a C90s are they still really buggy. I was going to buy mine from Gen Tech but I don't want to buy a laptop if i have to fix it right away.
-
no they usually work fine. The problem was RAM incompatibility but Ken from gentech knows what to use.

Nothing buggy about them when you buy from a reliable vendor. If you buy as components to save a buck then there is a chance you may kick your self later
-
Most of what you hear about other than maybe ram are Vista rooted probs
-
one other common issue is the wireless card, when using on AC mode it works fine, but when unplug and switch to battery mode the wireless stops working, it's the wireless card, now we test every wireless card on AC and battery mode.
-
-
Also you must ask your vendor to test it with C90S on battery mode, because if they send you another card it might still have the same problem. -
what is the ASUS C80?
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Think it was the 17 inch model.
-
so there are no 17inch ASUS Barebones taht may come out in 2008?
-
I placed an order from GenTech for the Asus C90S, but it's currently on hold after I found out the 8600 GT GDDR3 is being discontinued.
I'm not longer sure about my purchase because after more research it seems like that will be the best card the laptop is going to take because NVIDIA will move to MXM III type cards.
This is a bit upsetting as I thought I had finally found the perfect laptop... that could get the 8700/8800 cards.
Thoughts anyone, suggestions?
EDIT: I just got off the phone with NVIDIA, and they said the Go 8800 512 card was available in MXM II. When I asked if he knew of any specific retailers he said I should contact ASUS about any specific questions.
EDIT2: Just got off the phone with Asus, the tech said that the 8800 is not available yet, but confirmed that it WILL be MXM II, and the C90S WILL support it via a Bio's update.
So I think I'm going to go with the C90S, and upgrade to the 8800 when it becomes available.
