Found pictures and that is tight.... and big. Going to be a gem hauling through airports. Atleast it doesn't scream steal me like the Targus the G2s got....

Wow! Awesome win for the 2 year warranty and 1333 ram upgrade! There must be a huge supply issue with the 1066 modules.

The connector for the sata controller is plastic and can break. You will need to create your own bracket until Asus makes them available. Once they do they will probably sell out quickly. :(

I would also want to know if it looks like a regular sata connection or do we also have to find an interposer.

The ssd drive plugs right in to the connector... It just flops around with no supporting hardware.

BTW, the bracket looks like the same one for the M17x. I'll test it and if it is we can buy it from Dell or eBay.

So the X1s have 2 year warranty. Way to go ordering way early in hope of getting the notebook way early. Hm, now the $200 dollar difference seems very fair indeed.

1 500GB drive, backpack, and mediocre mouse for $150.

Didn't need any of it ;) lol

Just going to need the bracket for the 2nd HDD.....

Please do. I already ordered the HD! :p (My fault for jumping the gun.) I definitely would love to put my games/movie files on the send HD. I doubt I can whip one up from scratch, so something near is definitely up my alley.

It cant be that hard to fabricate some sort of mounting backet...in fact, if any of you have any of those little things laying around that are used to cover PCI slots...I bet you could find a way to "mold" them into a working bracket. Just have to put a few screw holes in them.

    Depends.

If you are going to use a magnetic, platter based drive than you can't have much movement in there.

SSD would be less susceptible to bumps/shock.

True....I'm putting an SSD in, so i'm not as concerned with movement. Though, I would think you could probably get it pretty tight if you get creative...haha

On the M17x bracket it there is some shock absorption material built in.

Yeah, I'm thinking that a small metal strap with a couple of screw-holes will do the trick, along with a little paper or foam stuck under the drive, since it seems to kind of be "floating" up in the air when it's plugged in to the connector.

Yeah, we were talking about fabricating a bracket.

Heck, if the M17x bracket works (and we'll know soon cuz quad is trying it out) then this whole discussion is pointless :)

Except the M17x bracket costs $60....at least on eBay. I only did a quick search, so maybe someone can find a cheaper one.

I wonder how much room there is between the plate the covers that entire section, and the drive? Maybe we could just fit something on to the bottom of the plate that will brace up against the drive itself and hold it down tightly?

Newegg got in lots of X1 models.
    Resellers got delays.
Lots of chaos as people jumped back and forth on orders.
Newegg purchasers are getting theirs now.

X1 has 2 year warranty, apparenty no caddy for the spare HD cage, 1333 memory, and no bag or mouse.

not sure if this is the right place to post this question...but

anyone know if ASUS/et. al./etc. are considering a crossfire platform for the 5870? Or if ATI is considering a Mobility HD5870x2/5970?

No it was from filyn316. I called them to confirm the delivery date and he checked with the asus whse to confirm they would receive it on thurs or fri and he would ship to me asap. just a note - i originally bought the computer on the 8th and then found the cash back and am in the process with the seller to cancel the 8th order and still have the ship on fri. $160 was too much to pass up
