Yea, I have used that link before to flash some of my desktops in the past. I'm not going to bother with this one. I'm just going to drop it off Monday and talk them into giving me a new unit.

Sure, I could do some benching if you want. I am doing a F9 reinstall late tonight, but I am game until then.

I wouldn't be too confident that Asus will go ahead and replace it. They'll likely do what they're doing with mine, bring it in and they fix the software on the same unit. Only if you're as "persuasive" as Striker, then maybe they'll replace.

nice striker. that way people can just jump to page one. if you want to..you can skim through the thread and start taking benchmarking and game info and post it under your first post as well. so we can just send everyone to page 1 to get all the info. then come down here past post 2362 to add or ask questions..lol

I know what your getting at but I plan on having a long talk with the tech when I get there. Having been in computers for ten years, I am confident we can come to a satisfactory compromise ie: I get what I want lol.

The techs don't care if they fix or replace, they get paid by the hour and are usually pretty cool guys/gals. You just relate your frustration and bring them a large Timmys (coffee) and they are usually really easy going. Plus, I have the added advantage to speaking with then face to face.

The main thing is being able to give them enough of a reason to justify replacing it to their supervisor (who don't really care either) and I can provide that in part thanks to this forum.

LOL! The whole situation is pretty funny. You're gonna walk right into their offices, sit down, give everyone coffee, and demand a new computer? Nice! Good luck to you then. Put a word in for me lmao.

well i have given up on modding the drivers myself, still keeps freezing/locking up randomly.

i called asus tech about it. i was told basicly, theres nothing they can do for me untill they get new information from taiwon, and that i can call back in about week to see if they have got a fix.
i gotta say the guy i spoke to was about the dumbest person i have ever spoken to about computers.

he kept saying the issue is with turbo gear not setting clocks back correctly and windows is reading it and freezing. he simply did not understand what "POST screen" or "BIOS screen" is. thats where i get my lockups (its gotten worse since i got the machine). and was not understanding i disabled turbo gear in bios, disabled one vid card in bios and keep getting freezing/lock ups. not even during any intensive tasks. i have crashed three times reading this thread lol

is there a better day/time to call to get somebody whos NOT obviously from india?

Yikes, it's a shame you have to go through this. I too had to deal with these incompetent techs. Eventually I did get through to a knowledgeable person. I did nothing special, but I did call on a sunday, about this time actually. For now though, best to go back to the stock drivers, that may give you better stability in a regular vista environment. And I don't like to hear that American support isn't doing anything. Relying on their overseas division is obviously not a good idea, there's probably no communication. I guarantee that no solution will come from there, but only if our support gets working on it.

Whatever happens though, you need to RMA that thing back as soon as you get through to someone who knows what's going on. Good luck to you.

    I did those benchmarks.

    I ran 3D Mark Vantage at 1920x1080
On extreme over clocked, not over clocked as well as on high over clocked and not over clocked. The Score was 0 on all of them

I took screen shots of all of them but have to run out and will post them later.

Let me be clear about this. I was one of the first people to report a stable system, but mine is still batch one so while I can say it is stable, I can't say it's running properly.

Again, I will post the screen shots when I get back.

Hmm is using the ATI drivers plug & play or do you have to mod them like we do the Nvidia drivers to install on the notebook.

Also your CPU overclock what program did you use?

Final question, the Video Card overclock, did you use a special program for that or the built in Overdrive in the ATI drivers.

    Thanks.

ya, getting the invalid boot block thing with winflash, bios ezflash, cd/dvd/thumbdrive/usbfloppy

and the guy swears up and down its a known issue and they are working to resolve it. sounds like BS to me. think the first batch has some hardware differences they changed after finding a problem.

that's the whole reason for testing. technically they are suppose to be smoking a 9800m gtx.

ok, i think i figured it out. why the 0 is showing and why the high gpu score. gotta run 2 more test to verify.

My bad, What I meant is: just feeling cynical as for if every W90 can have a quad running @ 4Ghz, thats all.

    Two OC'd 4850 smoking a single 9800m GTX?

it shouldn't be to difficult, but someone else hit 10.5 over clocked. but that was a dual core. ati needs mhz to be push past its normal range. mhz and AA and you have a monster on your hands..lol
so we're talking like 3.3 ghz and up maybe...(speculation of course)(or a vbios over clock of gpu) those should put it way over the 11k barrier.
some how kinc has his gpu's running at 1800 mhz. (unless 1800 is still 900 mhz memory)

jokes aside, if those Vantage Extreme GPU results are accurate, then wow. That's my GPU score on the performance setting (not my palm pilot).

Gotta love how Strikers post was the last one on there and then not a blurb after it . i would have loved to see some LN2 results especially if he was able to get more voltage to the CPU which sounded like the limiting factor for going higher. The good news though out of that article was the temps were well within range and thats just sitting on his desktop and not some big fancy cooler.

Perhaps too strong. It could be the limitation on vertical pixels (1080 vs 1200) that could give it a couple of points, but even then, its scoring better than a desktop 4850x2, such as this one. It could also be due to drivers, but that's unlikely.

Could also be a bug with it too, hence why it reports the 0 score maybe.

    one way to find out.
he would need to rerun high settings test as is. that way once it completes, it will give the h6740 what ever score and not a 0.

Ok.. not pointing fingers, or trying to accuse anyone of deceit. But there's a couple things about that guy, kinc's post I find suspicious.

He mentions temps being fine, but doesn't show them.

cpu-z reports CPU speed @ 3952.5 and 3dmark06 shows 3912 - the only reason I point this out, 3dmark's result screen wont refresh til he closes that results window..why didn't he just do that in the first place for a nice screenshot?

2.8GB of RAM? guess that's a benching technique.

Eh.. just reaching for straws. Oh, and this being an x38 board, it should be able to use Intel's IDCC I believe. :D

Ya its abit a strange to no one every replying to his question like the whole thread was closed after that question lol .

E- 2816 mem thing was for a 32 bit OS also notice his vista is ultimate that he is running .

to the other questions his whole presentation of scores and specs looks cut and pasted not to mention his CPU is a T9400 core2quad :).

Well, isn't the X38 chipset supported by IDCC? Why doesn't someone download the program and give it a go? IDCC is the desktop variant of Intel Extreme Tuning Utility for anyone who is wondering what we're talkin about. Actually, XTU is included in IDCC. Anyhow, turbogear may be.. kinda ;)

    T9400 quad = QX9300 = cpu-z bug :)

Windows Ultimate shows 3092 when running 32bit, doesnt it?
