If it is just two antenna's
Could an extra antenna be installed with a 5300 card by your company as an option
    Or is that too involved?

Yeah, the most well behaved 5 month-old I've ever seen. We got lucky with him. Everyone tells us our second is going to be hell, just to balance things out.

Until we actually get them there is no way to tell whether there are 3 wires, or whether we can install the 3rd one if there aren't.

If we discover we cannot use all three wires for those ordering with the Intel card we will refund that upgrade.

Alex, unfortunately we can not install extra Antenna, it has to be done by manufacturer.

Okay guys, I know this might be a hard question to answer without actually having your hands on this machine yet, BUT:

As you can tell by my sig, I've ordered a Dell Studio 17. I have no intentions of keeping it when it gets here due to the ENORMOUS problems it has been having with power throttling. Also, I've heard of some HPs having there Multipliers locked when on battery power and so forth.

Basically, I'm looking for a little reassurance that this will not have similar issues. with the studio 17 with a 1080p screen, 820qm CPU, and the 4650 GPU, single HD they were pulling over 130-145 watts to run this system.

This system comes with a more powerful GPU, second HDD etc. Will this be an issue? It ships with a 120w power adapter, correct?

I wasn't really sure where else to post this, but considering I'm going to order this laptop very soon, I figured I could here :) :)

Does anyone know where I could find a guide or something online to easily set up the SSD (primary) to use as an OS/app HD and the 500g as the "everything else" drive?

I am pretty sure that if you set the primary drive to the SSD when you order, it will have the OS on it. Then when installing applications, just install them to that drive.

is ok, the SSD would be much faster than two raided mechanical HDDs anyways, and access times would be a ton lower.

It will come with a 150W power adapter so the issues you describe should not be a problem.

Put in a pre-order a few days ago. From lurking, got the idea of the SSD primary and HDD secondary as oposed to RAID. Also some customizing. This is going to be hopefully my "going to the sandbox" work/play laptop. The price fluctuation and delivery date has got me worried though. If it climbs above $2K or delivery into March then I may have to reconsider.

Any tricks or suggestions on dealing with dust?

New member to the forum. Thank you to all contributors for your input as it helped me to make the decision to buy this computer. Ordered the basic package with the extended 3 yr. warranty and Upgraded thermal compound from GenTech. Because I ordered on the weekend, it won't be confirmed until Monday but at least I'm in line! Updating an HP Pavilion dv9420us with a fried motherboard - happy there's an ATI gpu instead of nvidia as the nvidia was the reason my mb fried and even though they make a good gpu, did not want to give them my business this time around. Peace and Patience!! :D

Compressed air and microcloth as l3g4cy99 suggested are the 2 basic cleaning supplies you'll need. I typically use a microcloth along with a screen cleaner such as THIS to not only clean the dust but also oils caused by accidentally touching the screen with your fingers.

You may also want to have some q-tips handy for cleaning the fans. Often times using compressed air isn't enough to clean the finer dust particles attached to the fins of the fan.

I personally do not see the point in going to the extreme. I am ordering monday morning through gentech with the following upgrades:

    IC diamond therm.
80gb g2 intel x25-m ssd for primary drive
    downgrade to dvd player
    i7 820qm

for a total of $2246.55 USD

EDIT: Striker, May I ask why you chose to upgrade to the 920xm? I honestly just could not justify such a large price increase. I doubt very much that most people would use the 820qm to it's full potential, let alone the 820qm

It's all a matter of personal preference and choice, my friend. I don't knock anyone's chosen config. Quite frankly, I too initially opted for the 820Qm for a price/performance balance, but I am a juice-aholic...... and I knew later on, I would be dis-satisfied not having the Xtreme. Plain & simple, I want to bench & OC in an Xtreme'ly Stealth'y way, LOL!

The TurboGear utility of the W90 was somewhat limiting. IIRC, w/ a C2D, the CPU boost was about 17%..... 15% for the Q9000, and only 5% for the QX9300..... but the QX9300 was not officially supported by Asus in the W90.

Anyhow, the G73JH will feature the Power4Gear utility, and it's benefits are yet to be seen. I am optimistic here however, with the new Core i7, and this go-round, Asus will be supporting the Xtreme processor.

If Power4Gear is limiting this time, I am sure we will find appropriate work-arounds, LOL!

I'm not knocking anyones choices. I was just curious. I myself being a student could not justify the cost. If I had the money to spend, I probably would have to!

I am sure when you get your PC, the you will have a nice satisfied grin on your face after laying down some blazingly fast benchmarks with your wicked new computer!!

that would be nice....if IaTa can get the hook up.

And about the computer situation. Technically I do not have a computer. My wife has a pink Sony Vaio, and I have a work Dell that IS/IT has on lockdown so no admin rights. Granted there are probably ways around it, but it is not worth it.

So, until this computer shows up...I am computerless, which is less than your 500MHZ P3

I don't really recommend it since its like almost 1000$+, it's just not worth it for me.
I mean the laptop with i7 720 costs around 1600 and with extreme it will probably cost around 2600$.
if you have money to spend I would go with 160gb SSD HDD which is 465$+ at gentechpc.

I would say YES, if you can't live without it, or it won't bite the budget. The 820QM would actually be better from a price/performance stand point.

it'd probably bring the price point above their perceived budget limit. this is a budget gaming laptop- a wallop of power for a low low price. and btw, in case anyone was wondering (nobody cares I know, but I need to entertain myself somehow) the wPrime time of a Pentium 3 @497mhz:

Or the 820qm qith the 80gb ssd

The 80 gigs should be more then enough for your OS and apps, while the secondary 500gigs should be enough for most media.

Either way I think you will be very happy with your purchase :)
